[07:28] morning boys and girls. [09:45] Anyone good with systemd ? I basically have one initd script currently that starts a few of our processes, googling to try and find the best way to do that in systemd but seem to be failing. Each service script has one program to start [09:46] If anyone can point me in the right direction, I basically want to do systemctl software start [09:46] diplo: initd scripts are still supported by systemd [09:47] if you really want to rebuild them as pukka services you'll need to write a file in /etc/systemd/system/.service then systemctl enable and finally systemctl start [09:48] inside of that it starts 5 of our programs [09:48] I read somewhere I could get one systemd script to trigger multiple others though [09:48] And I can't find how [09:48] :P [09:49] But yeah, I know they are stull supported currently but they are being discontinued at some point [09:50] I may just get the services to shutdown cleanly and then the customers can just run shutdown and the OS can shutdown them properly rather than the customer [09:50] the spec for .service files is at https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.service.html [09:50] Currrently we run service software status and it shows all 5/6 programs are running [09:51] ta, reading through now [09:52] oh, it's split. there's more spec here: https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.unit.html# [09:55] thanks [09:58] Tis a bit of a minefield I find :) [09:59] yeah, it's not very well documented in an "when you want to do X. you need make Y look like" [09:59] way* [10:00] it's read the spec and guess [10:01] initd scripts were much more understandable because they were scripts [10:10] I guess so yeah [10:10] Sorry went for a walk, stretch legs and mind :) [10:12] * diddledan expands his mind [10:13] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CS7j5I6aOc [10:17] hah [10:49] This just got more problematic, we do some weird and wonderful stuff in our init scripts :/ [10:53] diddledan: You'll find me here :) [10:55] :-) [12:12] howdy all [12:12] \o [12:13] ahoy [12:16] how can i get awk to print a bash variable that's a string? e.g. export FOO=BAR; awk ' { printf "$BAR" }' [12:16] works with integers only [12:20] I have no idea [12:21] it's not anything to do with print vs printf is it? [12:25] got it [12:25] its just weird with bash variables [12:25] cat file | awk blah works with strings [12:25] but bash variables requires a mega hack [12:26] printf "'$FOO'" [12:26] won't be used in prod code, don't worry === Darkstar is now known as Guest21631 [12:26] put in a quick comment "to be removed later - 12/7/2017" :D [12:27] TODO: ignore this forever more [12:28] TODOs rarely ever get revisited [12:28] ah well as a comment it'll be out of sight and out of mind :> [12:28] a bad idea: https://twitter.com/bdsams/status/885113497461370880 [12:29] at least you get to visit both and don't have to pick... [12:32] ah i know that place [12:32] in dorset [12:32] did you visit either? :) [12:32] i wanted tank museum, kids wanted monkey world [12:33] we went to durdle door instead as it was free [12:33] oof [12:33] sounds like everyone lost :D [12:36] I like that. compromise by choosing neither [12:37] heh parenting++ [12:38] lol @ hantslug mailing list: "In my experience, compiling from source is a uniquely unsatisfying form of masochism :(" [12:38] :D [12:54] I've been to both, down the road from me [12:54] Kids have been to the tank museum a few times [12:55] Also donkey world is there as well or close by [12:55] D: where is this magical region? [12:56] diddledan: pre-emptive: down boy [12:57] Bovington near wareham [12:58] wow that's almost the closest bit of land from Guernsey :> [12:58] between weymouth and poole [12:58] * daftykins commences swimming [13:19] err... http://www.tankmuseum.org/whats-on/events/bovevt53878 [13:28] daleks are a kind of tank [13:29] that's true [14:17] diplo: will be going to portland for holiday this year again [14:29] I think my sdcard reader is killing any cards I put in it [14:29] Never visited :) [14:32] diddledan: you must have angered it [14:32] :o [14:32] is it acceptable to have a non zero axis? [14:33] e.g. values from 5000-10,000 [14:33] I don't understand. I've put several cards into it one of which I am sure was working fine last I used it, but each one has ended-up readonly [14:33] heh i see that happen _so_ much with Linux users [15:05] re-learning R is hard [15:05] stupid brain [15:05] yarr [15:05] an eye path might help [15:06] *patch [15:06] and a parrot [15:06] pieces of 7! pieces of 7 [15:06] (that's a parrotty error) [15:06] * daftykins insures 9 [15:26] I know it's the daily fail, but still: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4689372/PIERS-MORGAN-Thanks-Don-Jr-smoke-burst-flames.html [16:30] https://i.redditmedia.com/z5E_iew_J3mHo5oyX7b4bVA25PYiHv1fpH3WeKl-ca4.jpg?w=376&s=bb809cfffed0b698c95c9fcd77e3c991 [16:32] that's no knife!
