JebroneyHello guys, I'm running a minecraft server and I tried to make it happen on windoes 2012 server and then on ubuntu 17.04 but every time theres 2 plugin that doesnt start our server. wanna help me? we unloaded all plugins and 1 single plugin (precious Stones) couldnt work alone.. but we run paper Spigot instance for minecraft and a guy there who is very active made it work on his VM ubuntu00:18
pillar32Where can I get help with Xplanet not displaying?00:18
JebroneyTwice, 2 plugins don't work.. any tought what could cause this?00:18
shadow1809ill see if i can send a screenshot over phone xD it more or less messed up both my partitions so i cant get bk on my windows now00:18
Jebroneyafter a few minutes of the server not loading with Precious Stones (EWG disabled), a warning appears that an HTTP request connection has been leaked to https://www.buycraft.net/ (i think).00:19
Ben64Jebroney: that's not really on topic here, see if spigot or whatever has support00:19
Jebroneythey made it work, they bumped me here00:19
Ben64well this is ubuntu support, not modded minecraft support00:19
Jebroneyoh, thanks dude but I'm sure it's in the config of the machine that we have this problem since they made it work00:20
Jebroneyok alright00:20
Jebroneybye00:20
LopeIs the ubuntu installer supposed to work for me to setup an encrypted physical volume on one of my LVM volumes?00:20
LopeI tried it but the system didn't boot after install. After kernel loaded it was stuck on initramfs/busybox.00:20
shadow1809ben64 http://imgur.com/a/gDqQ300:21
shadow1809thats .. what i always end up with00:21
LopeI pressed back/forward a few times between setting up the enc volume with the wizard and the boot LVM also. So maybe that's why it broke. I had everything ready this time and did the boot volume and volume for the enc ready before starting the wizard.00:22
LopeHopefully it'll work this time.00:22
Ben64shadow1809: ok good, ready for step 2?00:23

bazhangwhich one02:31
JustTheDoctorim trying to create a Ubuntu livecd that automatically has pandacoin (pnd) and a most recentl blockchain by default, with the ability to install.02:32
bazhangwhy not add the pandacoin, and whatever else then make an installable iso from that02:33

bazhangJustTheDoctor, yes, so get your base/mini , install all what you want, then make it an installable iso02:43
JustTheDoctormy major q is, HOW do i make that iso?02:44
oerheks_a live iso that installs the !build environment, your sourcecode from the internet .. that cannot be done with that cubic02:44
oerheks_maybe a live iso + persistence where you store that info02:44
JustTheDoctorif i install latest ubuntu, then my app, can i create a livecd iso based on my system without the specific drivers for my system?02:46
oerheks_or just install ubuntu to usb, and build the tools, voila02:46

l1Ll1Ll1Lor maybe lubuntu05:57
l1Ll1Ll1Leither should run faster than plain ubuntu05:59
carmelo12341huh, lubuntu. I suppose the fancy animations aren't an option with that amount of gpu memory06:02
l1Ll1Ll1Leh, I have a powerful enough machine and I prefer to disable them anyway =P06:03
carmelo12341well then, I'll give it a try. Thanks l1Ll1Ll1L06:03
l1Ll1Ll1Lyup np06:03
carmelo12341damn, what a hard name to write06:03
l1Ll1Ll1Llol06:03
l1Ll1Ll1LI know, I know06:03
l1Ll1Ll1L"l" "1" tab06:04
carmelo12341l1Ll1Ll1L: oh, didn't know that06:04
carmelo12341lol06:04
l1Ll1Ll1LI didn't either until someone complained about my name the other day then mentioned it haha06:04
carmelo12341haha, thanks m8 ^_^06:05
l1Ll1Ll1L:306:05
carmelo12341I think running just a wm would be faster, but I'm not a fan of those06:06
l1Ll1Ll1LIt probably would be, but I've never tried that myself06:07
l1Ll1Ll1Lxubuntu is already pretty lightweight, and lubuntu possibly even a little lighter06:07
l1Ll1Ll1LPlus xfce is a great DE, I use it over the other ones becuase I honestly like it best06:08
carmelo12341huh, xubuntu... I'll try that one too.06:08
carmelo12341but what about gnome?06:08
l1Ll1Ll1Lit is heavier than the other DEs I mentioned06:09
l1Ll1Ll1Lprobably would not perform any better than Unity06:09
l1Ll1Ll1Lsame for kde in kubuntu06:09
carmelo12341yeah, last version I tried in that pc was 10.04, at least the desktop started, but it was really buggy06:10
l1Ll1Ll1Llol06:10
carmelo12341I wonder if the desktop would even start atm06:10
l1Ll1Ll1L10.04 is pretty dated06:10
carmelo12341yeah, at that time that was the only pc I had and was just starting to know linux06:11
carmelo12341I think that pc might need an older version of the kernel to run properly. Prob kernel 4.x won't do it06:12
l1Ll1Ll1Lyou talking about the pentium 4 machine still?06:13
carmelo12341yeap, it is a 3 ghz pentium 4, the best cpu for that socket06:13
carmelo12341a socket 478 btw, no 64 bit saddly06:15
l1Ll1Ll1Loh well, the biggest restriction is probably that 1GB RAM06:16
carmelo12341that mb supports up to 2gb ddr2. I'm pretty sure it would be hella expensive06:17
l1Ll1Ll1Lyeah ddr2 is not cheap anymore06:17
l1Ll1Ll1Lcarmelo12341, I wonder if it would need an older kernel, I'm trying to find info on that because you made me curious. I wouldn't be surprised if kernel 4.x worked just fine06:19
carmelo12341yes it is (or at least where I live).06:20
l1Ll1Ll1Lit is cheap? Nice, haven't tried to buy DDR2 in a while but I remember it being much mroe than DDR3 last I looked06:20
carmelo12341no no, it isn't cheap where I live06:21
carmelo12341apparently on amazon is just 24$ for 4gb06:22
l1Ll1Ll1Lwell that's pretty cheap alright06:22
Dreaman1 gb am is not good ide 64 bit06:22
Dreamanidea06:22
Dreaman14.04 lts 32 bit06:22
l1Ll1Ll1Lyeah it is a 32 bit machine06:22
carmelo12341the main problem I think is the really old gpu.06:22
Dreamanxubuntu06:23
carmelo12341that is why I'm asking about the kernel06:23
poutineRunning into an extremely weird issue where I stop being able to discover chromecasts via MDNS until I reboot my ubuntu 16.04.1 machine. I've tried restarting the avahi-daemon service to no avail, any other ideas on where this problem might be occurring?06:23
carmelo12341and the intel gpu drivers.06:23
l1Ll1Ll1Lfair06:23
l1Ll1Ll1Lwell, might be easiest to just make a live USB and see how it goes06:23
Dreamanxubuntu or lubuntu see06:24
Dreamanis good06:24
carmelo12341yeah, I'll try both. If the DE doesn't start, I'll see the option to use an older kernel06:24
l1Ll1Ll1Lalrighty gl06:24
Dreaman!kernel06:25
ubottuThe core of Ubuntu is the Linux kernel: see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel - You shouldn't have to compile your own, and if you need to troubleshoot issues, you can try a !Mainline kernel instead, but if you insist, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel/Compile (see also !Stages)06:25

l1Ll1Ll1Lalocer this seems relevant https://slackerboyabhi.wordpress.com/2012/02/01/converting-man-pages-to-printable-text-file-and-pdf-files/06:31
l1Ll1Ll1Lchl_ I've never used minicom and you probably tried this, but if it is like other terminal emulators I know it is ctrl+shift+c for copy and ctrl+shift+v for paste06:33

WulfHi11:00
WulfRunning openvpn on 16.04 in aws cloud. For some strange reasons, openvpn gets access denied on /run/openvpn, although it runs as root. Any hints?11:00
ikoniaWulf: it's in memory /run11:03
ikoniaWulf: it also forks the process11:03
ikoniait's launched as root but not run as root11:03
Wulfikonia: I can't see fork/clone11:03
ikoniawhat do you mean you can't see it11:04
Wulfstrace11:04
ikoniaWulf: there should be a config parameter which is runas or openvpn user (it's notmally openvpn) and thats the user it runs as11:05
ikoniahow it forks I don't know, I've not looked at it (as I've not had cause to)11:05
ikoniaWulf: I had something similar using the enterprise version as I hadn't changed the user and the default user on the enterprise is openvpn-as11:05
Wulfikonia: sorry, I can't follow11:09
ikoniaWulf: how did you install openvpn11:09
Wulfapt-get install openvpn11:09
ikonia(I'm sorry I've not got an ubuntu box in front of me so may ask you some dumb clarifications)11:10
ikoniaWulf: in /etc/passwd is there an openvpn user11:10
WulfIt must be some systemd related fuckup11:10
ikoniaWulf: tone down the language please11:10
Wulfok, "systemd". Better?11:10
ikoniaWulf: check if you have the user in question ?11:11
Wulfikonia: yes, there is. But how does it matter?11:11
ikoniaWulf: you'll find that is the user that is being used to run the openvpn server11:11
ikoniaWulf: so that is the user that will need access to /run/openvpn11:11
Wulfwell, it's not. openvpn is started as root.11:11
ikoniaWulf: how are you starting it ?11:12
Wulfsystemd starts it.11:12
ikoniaWulf: right, and it will seperate it to that user11:12
Wulfsystemctl start openvpn11:12
Wulfno, openvpn needs to run as root to create network interfaces etc.11:12
ikoniaWulf: if you allow openvpn user access to that directory you'll find it works11:12
Wulf(it will setuid later)11:12
ikoniaWulf: yes, not the process though, it creates the tun devices but runs the daemon as non-root11:13
Wulfwhy would systemd create.. nevermind. SYSTEMD!11:13
WulfAnyway, I double checked. It's started as root by systemd.11:13
ikoniaI don't have a box at hand to confirm it, but I hit the same problem migrating between openvpn and openvpn enterprise as I took the same config over and openvpn enterprise uses the user "openvpnas" so my config was wrong11:14
ikonia(and thus my permissions)11:14

monsieur_hHeya sorry to bother you. I used to have a really nice blueish wallpaper on ubuntu 16.XX (DE: Unity). It was kind of a electric spaky thing. I can't find it. I've been looking for it for ages. It was in the default set of wallpapers you get out of the box. Could anyone help ?12:52
tsarompyooh12:53
tsarompywhat do you mean by blueish12:53
xanguamonsieur_h: you can install previous Ubuntu artwork from the repository12:54
tsarompyyou gotta describe it better than that12:54
kristian_on_linuI tried dpkg-reconfigure gdm and such, but no luck12:55
monsieur_hxangua: except i switched to another distro since :(12:55
monsieur_htsarompy: so its mostly blue, and there is an electric arc or wave traversing the screen12:55
monsieur_his abstract, really, doesn't represent any actual shape12:56
tsarompyok12:56
monsieur_hi think it's the only blue one of the set12:56
Soul_Samplemonsieur_h: which distro did you switch to?12:56
tsarompyis it this?12:57

im0ndeAnyone can help me with my live-usb boot problem?13:00
sven^scottjl: I did actually look into the man pages and I know what purge does. I still don't get why apt can find and remove a package and apt-get cannot. I did not read the whole man page13:00
scottjlif apt can find it, aptitude and apt-get should certainly be able to. they all work off the same database.13:01
monsieur_htsarompy: Your my savior !13:01
monsieur_hThis is the one I was looking for !13:01
tsarompyno way13:01
tsarompyawesome13:01
monsieur_hSoul_Sample: (I switched to arch)13:01
sven^scottjl: well, that was exactly the problem. apt-get remove xlockmore said 'package not found' and apt purge xlockmore removed it without any problems. Well, it's solved now, so thank you again13:04

acresearchpeople i need help. my ubuntu 17.04 gnome is at wack, mouse stopped working, things are not stable. i am trying to format my computer and re-install it but it is not working, i am unable to burn the iso into a DVD and when i make a start up USB it refuses to automount and cannot boot from it. PLEASE help me13:19
acresearchanyone here?13:30
scottjlso you believe your current installation isn't working properly and you have no other way to create boot media?13:39
acresearchscottjl: true13:39
scottjlnot sure anyone can offer any help.13:39
acresearchscottjl: oh13:39
scottjlunless you can diagnose what's wrong with your current install.13:39
acresearchscottjl: i rather just format it and start fresh13:40
acresearchscottjl: i already backup my documents13:40
scottjlwell unless you can create boot media from another computer13:40
scottjlthat is working ok13:40
acresearchscottjl: unfortunatly at my universtiy all the computers are windows13:40
scottjlyou can't burn an iso from a windows box?13:41
acresearchscottjl: hmmm, let me see13:41
scottjlwindows is certainly capable of burning an iso13:41
scottjlor writing an ubuntu boot image out to usb13:41
acresearchscottjl: i haven't used windows since 2005, let me see if i can figure it out13:41
DArqueBishopYou can use Rufus in Windows to create a bootable USB installer from the ISO.13:42
scottjlhttps://itsfoss.com/create-live-usb-of-ubuntu-in-windows/13:42
acresearchi don't have access to the computer system13:44
acresearchi don't have access to the computer network system13:44
acresearchis there no way of understanding why ubuntu won't make good live USBs?13:45
scottjlit is capable of making live usb's.13:46
ikoniadefine "won't make good"13:46
scottjlwhy your particular system can't, we don't know.13:46
ikoniaand explain how you are trying to create them13:46
acresearch, but when i eject and re-insert the usb it does not mount, I have to go to Disks and manually mount it, when it does everything seems to be in order inside it,,, therefore when i start the computer and try to boot from usb it does not mount and therefore does not see it. when i look at the USB in disks it says: partition type Hidden HPFS/NTFS (Bootable)13:48
acresearchok , i downloaded 17.04 unity anf gnome (to see if any of them work), i use the startup disk creator. it says it is successful13:48
ikoniaacresearch: why are you trying to mount an install USB13:49
ikoniayou're supposed to boot from it13:49
acresearchsorry, read second line before first (example of broken system)13:49
ikonianot mount it13:49
acresearchikonia: read to the end, it explains why13:49
ikoniano it doesn't13:49
ikoniawhat is the exact error you get when you try to boot from it13:49
acresearchikonia:  ok i'll try again, when i try to boot it does not mount,13:49
ikonia"it does not mount" - that means nothing13:50
ikoniait's a compressed file system13:50
acresearchikonia: no error, just does not exist13:50
acresearchikonia: no error, just does not show up13:50
ikonia"does not exist" what doesn't ?13:50
acresearchthe usb13:50
ikoniaacresearch: you seem to just be saying things like "does not mount" - how do you know it doesn't "mount"13:50
ikoniaand "does not exist" what does not exist ?13:50
acresearchwhen i put the usb in the computer it does not show up from the OS13:51
ikoniawhen you put in an the install media and try to boot it - what happens13:51
ikonianot "what you think is happening" what actually happens13:51
ikoniashow up from the OS ?13:51
ikoniahow can it show up from the OS - you're booting it, it IS the OS13:51
ikoniaso is it booting the USB ?13:51
acresearchikonia: what actually happens is that no usb to start the install from it shows up13:51
acresearchthere is no booting from usb13:51
ikoniaacresearch: so when you try to boot it - what actually happens13:51
acresearchikonia: nothing13:51
ikoniano - something must happen13:52
ikoniawhat actually happens, what do you see on screen13:52
acresearchikonia: ok bare with me for 1 second13:52
acresearch1 - i insert live usb13:52
acresearch2 - i power off13:52
acresearch3 - i restart13:52
acresearch4 - i go to boot menu13:52
acresearch5 - no usb13:52
ikoniaok - so your machine does not support booting from usb13:52
ikoniathere you go13:53
acresearchikonia: it does, that is how i initially installed linux13:53
zeekhugeHi ! I have this problem on Ubuntu16.04 that after resuming from a suspend, my screen color converts to blue/green, mostly the part of the screen closer to the boundaries. Any idea how to fix that ?13:53
ikoniaacresearch: then the key is having a problem13:53
sisveI am trying to upgrade an existing installation of jenkins and do "sudo apt-get install jenkins". Apt-get finds the package, but never starts the installation. Instead I am dropped back to the terminal without any errors. How would I start debugging this? https://kopy.io/hNxGa13:53
acresearchikonia: hmmm13:53
ikoniaacresearch: as if it doesn't even show the device - thats nothing to do with the OS, thats the bios not being able to see it as a dumb device13:53
acresearchikonia: i did buy it this morning, is there a way to find out from the USB? or change the setting in it?13:54
ikoniaacresearch: find out what ? change what settings ?13:54
acresearchikonia: from the usb to make it bootable13:54
ikoniaacresearch: is this your personal computer ?13:55
tsarompyoh13:55
acresearchikonia: yes13:55
tsarompyhow did you write the image acresearch13:55
acresearchusing the startup disk creator13:55
tsarompyin windows?13:55
acresearchin ubuntu13:55
tsarompywhy dont you use dd13:55
tsarompydd always works13:56
acresearchthe writing process seems to be fine, no error or anything, like ikonia said, it could be the USB13:56
ikoniasisve: re-rerun apt-get update and then apt-get install jenkins13:56
ikoniasisve: see what it does13:56
tsarompyum13:56
ikoniaacresearch: no, if the writing process is fine the usb is fine13:56
ikoniaacresearch: however if your BIOS can't even see a USB stick - that is nothing to do with ubuntu/the install on it13:56
sisveikonia: update gives no error messages and contains stuff like "Hit http://pkg.jenkins.io binary/ Release" and "Hit http://pkg.jenkins.io binary/ Packages", but the install still stops as before.13:57
ikoniathat is your BIOS being unable to identify a dumb device being plugged in13:57
* zeekhuge something like this : https://ibb.co/jcv9Cv13:57
ikoniasisve: dpkg -i | grep jenkins13:57
tsarompyplug in your usb drive, open a terminal and type dmesg | tail, it will give you a block device name. usually something along the lines of /dev/sdb. use dd with sudo or root to write the iso onto the stick13:57
acresearchikonia: ok one moment, mouse doesn't work so it takes time to copy paste commands to different windows13:57
acresearchtsarompy: ok13:58
sisveikonia: "dpkg: error: --install needs at least one package archive file argument" so guessing that wasn't the right command.13:58
ikoniaacresearch: I've not asked for any comands13:58
ikoniasisve: oops, idiot, dpkg -l13:58
ikoniasisve: sorry, typo13:58
sisveikonia: "ii  jenkins [snip] 2.46.3 [snip] all [snip] Jenkins is an open source automation server..."13:58
sisveikonia: i removed lots of whitespaces used for table format.13:58
tsarompyi mean13:58
tsarompythis is pretty unnecessary13:59
ikoniasisve: interesting, so it sees it as already installed13:59
ikoniasisve: which would explain why it does nothing13:59
ikoniasisve: but doesn't explain why it thinks it needs to install it13:59
sisveikonia: there should be new version for me to upgrade to.13:59
ikoniasisve: why do you think that ?13:59
sisveikonia: http://pkg.jenkins.io/debian-stable/ and the notifications within the jenkins ui. and their homepage.14:00
acresearchtsarompy: how so i find my usb /dev/sdc   number?14:00
zeekhugeand restarting compiz fixes it.14:01
ikoniasisve: 2.46.3 is the last one in the 2.46 release14:01
ikoniasisve: apt-cache policy jenkins14:01
sisveikonia: I didn't know that i had such version constraints active. Can I edit it?14:01
TuxtorielHello everybody! :·)    Silly question, but just to make sure, it is possible to install the latest 4.12 kernel under 16.04LTS, isn't it?14:01
ikoniasisve: version constraints ?14:01
tsarompyyou dont need the number acresearch14:01
tsarompyyou write to the whole device14:01
acresearchtsarompy: ok14:01
sisveikonia: "Installed: 2.46.3" "Candidate: 2.60.1-1"14:01
ikoniaTuxtoriel: why do you want that ?14:02
tsarompysudo dd if=/path/to/your/ubuntu.iso of=/dev/sdc bs=4M;sync14:02

acresearchtsarompy: this is the command correct?14:02

acresearchI am stuck14:33
ouroumovacresearch, someone should have warned you that dd is dangerous, you most likely used the wrong "of" target and nuked your installation.14:33

ouroumovacresearch, there is nothing we can do to help, you need to acquire a new live USB and reinstall.14:35

oferI had /boot on /dev/md0 and / on /dev/md1. I moved /boot into /dev/md1 and now I boot from it. In order to do it I changed GRUB's menu.lst (hd0 -> hd1). Now on each upgrade, apt-get suggests that I'll change hd1 back to hd0, which will of course cause the system not to boot. naccdonofrio: e.g., there is no screen support, i guess15:50
naccdonofrio: and if you're using WSL or whatever, that's even more Microsoft-y and less supportable here15:51
donofrionacc, I never intended to frustrate anyone, just figure when I run ubuntu 14.04 this would be a good place to come and share....15:53

JakethepythonHello Room i am having problems w/ Unity updates can somene please help me16:08
naccJakethepython: what is your exact issue?16:09
JakethepythonHey Nacc i beleive yesterday i was working with you on the issue and you got a phone call. One of the downlaod paths is not there i think was the problem16:10
sgenWhats the best way to run a remote private apt package repository? Ive been googeling it and Ive found all sorts of answers, from a webserver and a couple odd shell scripts to some very poorly documented programs16:10
naccJakethepython: oh yeah, I'm sorry!16:11

naccJakethepython: ok so for some reason unity-control-center is not showing up?16:11
Jakethepythonyeah there is the pastebin of the update and the apt install16:12
naccJakethepython: ok, let me see if i can reproduce the issue16:12

tsarompy?16:21
iorianacc,  the version looks wrong;  current is 20170214-0ubuntu1 and he got 20160705-0ubuntu116:22
naccJakethepython: did you at some point edit this file?16:22
naccioria: yeah, that is a locally-installed .deb (or at least not resolvable by apt)16:22
ioriayup16:22
naccioria: it's the release version, not the one in updates16:22
naccJakethepython: your sources.list looks pretty ... wrong16:22
naccJakethepython: nothing is looking main16:23
JakethepythonNo this distro came installed by Dell. on the computer so they may have made it "non updateable"16:23
Jakethepythonor soemthing16:23
naccJakethepython: um... that's terrible16:23
naccJakethepython: afaict, the sources.list you pasted shows that nothing is actually querying the main ubuntu repository16:23
naccJakethepython: so... you wouldn't find most packages :)16:23
ioriaJakethepython, i'd change sources.list ... but idk what would happen16:23
naccJakethepython: do they want you to go through the dell repo only?16:24
naccJakethepython: I'd suggest one of two things: a) if you need to stay on that distro, seek support from dell. b) if you can, reinstall stock ubuntu and use that instead.16:24
naccJakethepython: as what you have is some (yet again) frankenbuntu :)16:24
naccJakethepython: it's possible something in /etc/apt/sources.list.d is adding the normal repos back in, I suppose (any files in there?)16:25
JakethepythonNo i just havn't do you want to see my /etc/apt directory?16:25
naccJakethepython: /etc/apt/sources.list.d specifically16:26
Jakethepythonhttps://paste.ubuntu.com/25076172/16:26
naccJakethepython: or maybe more usefully `rgrep -H 'xenial.*main' /etc/apt/sources.list*`16:27
ioria xenial-dell.list seems the culprit16:27
Jakethepythonhttps://paste.ubuntu.com/25076178/16:27
naccioria: would be my guess too16:27
ioriamaybe some customized release16:28
naccJakethepython: you can see in that last paste, line 1016:28
naccJakethepython: that's normally present in the actual file, not a backedup file (I think that's what the ~ signifies)16:28
naccJakethepython: but altering that, if that's just how your system came, would probably break your support terms with dell16:28
Jakethepythonshould i call dell Tech support? LOL...because they are oohh so helpful?16:29
naccJakethepython: in short, presuming as you said no alteration whatsoever since installation, then this is working as expected by Dell16:29
Jakethepythoni havnt[ altered anything16:30
naccJakethepython: tbh, I find that pretty surprising (no alteration), because that means Dell is shipping a really porrly written /etc/apt/sources.list file :)16:30
Jakethepythoni have on other computers but not this one16:30
naccJakethepython: and i don't have a dell distro in front of me to compare to, so I'm trusting you :)16:30
arun007hi16:30
ioriaJakethepython, i can can grant you hat in a normal installation, you don't have that content by default16:30
Jakethepythonyeah i know i didn't do the install it was a work computer they ordered w/ 16.04 on it16:31
naccJakethepython: http://paste.ubuntu.com/25076198/ is, basically, the stock sources.list file for comparison16:31
naccJakethepython: (cloud-init'd, but it's basically what you get normally if you opt-in to security, updates and backports)16:31
JakethepythonSo should i call dell to see if it breaks everything from them if i change it?16:35
naccJakethepython: i'm not sure what you should do, tbh -- I think most dells can run stock ubuntu w/o issue (particularly ones that already run their ubuntu version)16:36
Jakethepythonyeah so is it a reinstall issue? or just an update issue?16:36
naccJakethepython: not sure what you mean? as in what you need to do?16:37
Jakethepythoni don't either :)16:39
naccJakethepython: heh. my suggestions were above, not much else I can say16:39
JakethepythonOK16:40
Jakethepythonso untiel that is fixed no way to fix the unity right?16:40
naccJakethepython: right, well, no way to install the package that someone else suggested fixes it. That unity is broken in Dell's distribution is probably a bug for Dell16:41
JakethepythonOK16:41

eelstrebori've read that there's no way to convert from mbr to gpt with some kind of utility app16:50

eelstrebori guess i'll have to figure out how to redo the drive so that windows will install ( just like M$ to mess things up)16:54
ducasseeelstrebor: you don't need to do anything for linux' sake, it has no gpt->uefi restriction. certain buggy firmwares do, as do windows afaik.16:54

litheumall sorts of folks have asked about this in all sorts of places, but i'm having trouble figuring out the "right" answer. i am building a VM image to make available in a cloud marketplace, and i do apt-get upgrade before publishing it. but even after doing that, upon login i see "13 packages can be updated. 13 updates are security updates." and apt-get upgrade tells me "The following packages have been18:55
litheumkept back: linux-cloud-tools-virtual linux-headers-generic linux-headers-virtual linux-image-extra-virtual linux-image-generic linux-image-virtual linux-virtual". what's the right course of action?18:55
SpeakerToMeatTonkers: that mask should produce 755 if I'm not mistaken, if the owner is not ftp a directory created such by your user will not be writable to it18:56
