guest253how do u like xubuntu?11:55
guest253hi12:11
guest253hola Zeioth12:33

knomei guess he guessed "no" :P12:40

zeeblefritzanyone there that can help with "no new releases found" when attempting to upgrade from 14.04 to 16.0417:18
knomezeeblefritz, just to confirm, what does "lsb_release -a" say?17:18
zeeblefritzubuntu 14.04.5 lts17:20
zeeblefritzdo you need exact? or is that good17:21
knomethat's fine17:21
zeeblefritzalso says no LSB modules available17:22
knomei guess you have also updated all packages to their latest versions?17:22
zeeblefritzover and over again17:22
knomealso, what about in settings manager -> software & updates -> tab updates, what's the setting for notifying of new versions?17:22
zeeblefritzany new version17:23
knomemhm, try setting that to long-term support, then try upgrading again17:23
zeeblefritzsame17:25
knomeinteresting17:25
knomewhat does "sudo do-release-upgrade" say?17:26
zeeblefritzokay so without the -d or -c it seems to be downloading a new update17:28
zeeblefritza week ago though it appeared to be working then gave me an error I can't recall17:29
zeeblefritzmaybe it will work now17:29
knomeif it doesn't, take note what kind of errors or warnings you get17:29
knome(and you already know this, but always take backups before upgrading)17:30
zeeblefritzyeah this machine is a backup hence why it was so far behind.17:31
zeeblefritzwould the lack of incremental updates cause something like this?17:31
knomein some cases not being up-to-date with updates *when you upgrade* can make a difference, but if you updated packages before upgrading, there shouldn't be any issues17:33
zeeblefritzokay just wondering. the machine was in storage and I tried to use it as a dvd player on my tv but decided not to output audio from hdmi.17:34
zeeblefritzthere appeared to be an issue with hdmi audio with 14.04 so i tried to upgrade then was met with this17:34
knomeright17:35
knomesounds weird, but hey, that's hardware...17:35
zeeblefritzi just hope I can get hdmi audio without reverting back to windows17:36
knomeif it is of any condolence, i'm doing hdmi audio constantly with xubuntu17:37
knomeso there's no ultimate blocker that completely stops you from doing it17:37
zeeblefritzI feel like I have done it with this computer before but maybe not17:37
zeeblefritzif I change internet connections mid download for faster speed will it cause any problems you know of?17:38
zeeblefritzappears not17:44
zeeblefritz:)17:45
knome:)18:02

luisssssomeone help please18:49
diogenes_luissss, call 91118:50
knomeluissss, did you try searching for answers online?18:51
luissssyes18:52
luissssand the answers i found are about formating my hd and i do not want to erase my Xubuntu on my pc am trying to make some free space to install the other os18:52
diogenes_luissss, what question?18:53
luissssam running Xubuntu 16.10 on my pc, and i want to install antix alongside my Xubuntu for experimentation, so i am runing xubuntu 16.04 on a usb live iso, I run gparted to make a partition and i got this message> The driver descriptor says the physical block size is 2048 bytes, but Linux says it is 512 bytes. Why is happening_ Can some one help me pliease18:53
diogenes_luissss, I've never had issues with partitioning so, can't help there, sorry18:54
luisssstxs18:55
luissssthat is why am asking for help But seems like no one knows18:55
knomeluissss, also, no need to repeat; the majority of people have already seen the question18:55
knomeand yes, it's possible nobody knows - or that the solution is to reformat18:56
diogenes_but I did have some success running antix on a 14 yo laptop with a little bit more than 100 MB memory18:56
luisssstoke let me refresh18:56
luissssok*18:56
diogenes_luissss, why don't you want to format?18:57
luissssi want to partition my hd so i can have some room to install antix, but when trying to do so, i can resize my hd then i proceed to partition and it only allows me to create ext4 as a primary partion and swap also as a primary partition the options extended en logical are gray so i can't pick any of those only primary partitions18:59
luissssAnd the reason for me not wanting to format my hd is because i have Xubuntu 16.10 as my os, antix is for experimentation only19:00
luissssany way i just do not know why am i having problems to partiotioning the logical and extended options shouldn't be gray19:01
diogenes_you can try to convert it to GPT if you find a way to convert without data loss, then try to make partitions again19:01
luissssok19:02
diogenes_because it's MBR I assume19:02
luisssshave a nice day19:03
diogenes_thx u219:03
CrazyTuxhello, can I install SAP ERP on Xubuntu 16.04.2?19:10
knometbh i'd ask SAP19:12
CrazyTuxok19:13
CrazyTuxjust wanted to know whether it can be installed on Xubuntu.19:14
CrazyTuxor any Ubuntu based distro or Mint.19:15
knomei have no idea whether they support linux to start with19:15
knomeif yes, then the answer is most likely yes...19:15
CrazyTuxthe officially supported linux distros are Redhat, SUSE.19:16
CrazyTuxand Oracle linux19:16
knomethen you might be able to run it on xubuntu, but of course without official support19:17
CrazyTuxbut, I want to install SAP ERP for educational purposes.19:17
CrazyTuxeven without official support is ok.19:17
knomefor educational purposes i suggest looking for ideas how to do that yourself :P19:17
CrazyTuxok19:17
knomei'm pretty sure they don't offer source packages, so either you will have an executable that either works or doesn't work directly on xubuntu19:18
knomeor a package that works with some other pakcage management system19:18
knomein which case you can try to convert it to apt19:18
CrazyTuxsince Redhat and Suse are officially supported, could SAP be installed on OpenSuse or Centos?19:19
knomeyou should likely ask that question on an opensuse or centos support outlet... but probably19:19
CrazyTuxok19:20
CrazyTuxin what way is Xubuntu  more suitable than Debian?19:32
knomeuhm, suitable for what?19:35
CrazyTuxfor newbies19:40
CrazyTuxfor general home and office use.19:40
CrazyTuxhow is xubuntu as compared to debian 9 xfce?19:41
knomethey are different. :P19:42
knomethe most notable difference is likely configuration and looks19:42
CrazyTuxis debian faster than xubuntu?19:43
knomei have no benchmarks.19:43
CrazyTuxok19:44
CrazyTuxbut, is debian newbie friendly?19:47
CrazyTuxDebian 9?19:47
knomethis is the xubuntu channel, not debian...19:47
CrazyTuxok19:50
