[11:54] hi [11:55] how do u like xubuntu? [12:11] hi [12:33] hola Zeioth [12:38] guest253, you're asking the xubuntu channel if we like xubuntu? guess what the answer is? [12:40] i guess he guessed "no" :P === genius3k is now known as genius3000 [17:18] anyone there that can help with "no new releases found" when attempting to upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 [17:18] zeeblefritz, just to confirm, what does "lsb_release -a" say? [17:20] ubuntu 14.04.5 lts [17:21] do you need exact? or is that good [17:21] that's fine [17:22] also says no LSB modules available [17:22] i guess you have also updated all packages to their latest versions? [17:22] over and over again [17:22] also, what about in settings manager -> software & updates -> tab updates, what's the setting for notifying of new versions? [17:23] any new version [17:23] mhm, try setting that to long-term support, then try upgrading again [17:25] same [17:25] interesting [17:26] what does "sudo do-release-upgrade" say? [17:28] okay so without the -d or -c it seems to be downloading a new update [17:29] a week ago though it appeared to be working then gave me an error I can't recall [17:29] maybe it will work now [17:29] if it doesn't, take note what kind of errors or warnings you get [17:30] (and you already know this, but always take backups before upgrading) [17:31] yeah this machine is a backup hence why it was so far behind. [17:31] would the lack of incremental updates cause something like this? [17:33] in some cases not being up-to-date with updates *when you upgrade* can make a difference, but if you updated packages before upgrading, there shouldn't be any issues [17:34] okay just wondering. the machine was in storage and I tried to use it as a dvd player on my tv but decided not to output audio from hdmi. [17:34] there appeared to be an issue with hdmi audio with 14.04 so i tried to upgrade then was met with this [17:35] right [17:35] sounds weird, but hey, that's hardware... [17:36] i just hope I can get hdmi audio without reverting back to windows [17:37] if it is of any condolence, i'm doing hdmi audio constantly with xubuntu [17:37] so there's no ultimate blocker that completely stops you from doing it [17:37] I feel like I have done it with this computer before but maybe not [17:38] if I change internet connections mid download for faster speed will it cause any problems you know of? [17:44] appears not [17:45] :) [18:02] :) [18:07] Hello, good day everyone i like to ask for help [18:07] luissss, no need to ask - just ask [18:09] am running Xubuntu 16.10 on my pc, and i want to install antix alongside my Xubuntu for experimentation, so i am runing xubuntu 16.04 on a usb live iso, I run gparted to make a partition and i got this message> The driver descriptor says the physical block size is 2048 bytes, but Linux says it is 512 bytes. Why is happening_ Can some one help me pliease_ [18:29] am running Xubuntu 16.10 on my pc, and i want to install antix alongside my Xubuntu for experimentation, so i am runing xubuntu 16.04 on a usb live iso, I run gparted to make a partition and i got this message: The driver descriptor says the physical block size is 2048 bytes, but Linux says it is 512 bytes. Why is happening_ Can some one help me pliease? [18:49] someone help please [18:50] luissss, call 911 [18:51] luissss, did you try searching for answers online? [18:52] yes [18:52] and the answers i found are about formating my hd and i do not want to erase my Xubuntu on my pc am trying to make some free space to install the other os [18:53] luissss, what question? [18:53] am running Xubuntu 16.10 on my pc, and i want to install antix alongside my Xubuntu for experimentation, so i am runing xubuntu 16.04 on a usb live iso, I run gparted to make a partition and i got this message> The driver descriptor says the physical block size is 2048 bytes, but Linux says it is 512 bytes. Why is happening_ Can some one help me pliease [18:54] luissss, I've never had issues with partitioning so, can't help there, sorry [18:55] txs [18:55] that is why am asking for help But seems like no one knows [18:55] luissss, also, no need to repeat; the majority of people have already seen the question [18:56] and yes, it's possible nobody knows - or that the solution is to reformat [18:56] but I did have some success running antix on a 14 yo laptop with a little bit more than 100 MB memory [18:56] toke let me refresh [18:56] ok* [18:57] luissss, why don't you want to format? [18:59] i want to partition my hd so i can have some room to install antix, but when trying to do so, i can resize my hd then i proceed to partition and it only allows me to create ext4 as a primary partion and swap also as a primary partition the options extended en logical are gray so i can't pick any of those only primary partitions [19:00] And the reason for me not wanting to format my hd is because i have Xubuntu 16.10 as my os, antix is for experimentation only [19:01] any way i just do not know why am i having problems to partiotioning the logical and extended options shouldn't be gray [19:01] you can try to convert it to GPT if you find a way to convert without data loss, then try to make partitions again [19:02] ok [19:02] because it's MBR I assume [19:03] have a nice day [19:03] thx u2 [19:10] hello, can I install SAP ERP on Xubuntu 16.04.2? [19:12] tbh i'd ask SAP [19:13] ok [19:14] just wanted to know whether it can be installed on Xubuntu. [19:15] or any Ubuntu based distro or Mint. [19:15] i have no idea whether they support linux to start with [19:15] if yes, then the answer is most likely yes... [19:16] the officially supported linux distros are Redhat, SUSE. [19:16] and Oracle linux [19:17] then you might be able to run it on xubuntu, but of course without official support [19:17] but, I want to install SAP ERP for educational purposes. [19:17] even without official support is ok. [19:17] for educational purposes i suggest looking for ideas how to do that yourself :P [19:17] ok [19:18] i'm pretty sure they don't offer source packages, so either you will have an executable that either works or doesn't work directly on xubuntu [19:18] or a package that works with some other pakcage management system [19:18] in which case you can try to convert it to apt [19:19] since Redhat and Suse are officially supported, could SAP be installed on OpenSuse or Centos? [19:19] you should likely ask that question on an opensuse or centos support outlet... but probably [19:20] ok [19:32] in what way is Xubuntu more suitable than Debian? [19:35] uhm, suitable for what? [19:40] for newbies [19:40] for general home and office use. [19:41] how is xubuntu as compared to debian 9 xfce? [19:42] they are different. :P [19:42] the most notable difference is likely configuration and looks [19:43] is debian faster than xubuntu? [19:43] i have no benchmarks. [19:44] ok [19:47] but, is debian newbie friendly? [19:47] Debian 9? [19:47] this is the xubuntu channel, not debian... [19:50] ok
