daftykinsnicomachus: o hai12:40
nicomachusdaftykins: have you ever used mopidy on any of your setups?14:14
nicomachusor do you do music through Kodi too?14:14
daftykinsvery rarely play music through Kodi, but when i do i just use a standard samba mount and the library, or even file mode14:16
nicomachusI set up mopidy on my HTPC at home and it's super nice to be able to build playlists with local files, spotify, and Youtube all together. But setting it up on my laptop was a different story.. Lol14:28
daftykinshmm, still don't touch any streaming services myself, got a Pi in my lounge pretending to be a logitech squeezebox so i can play music from my local collection controlled from my phone14:30
nicomachusmopidy does a cool MusicBox for Pi14:32
daftykinssounds like it could be useful if you go near streaming services, but just reinventing the wheel for me14:35
ducasse\o daftykins16:06
ducassei use mpd on my pi for much the same thing you use yours for - control playback of local files through phone. brilliant stuff.16:07
ducasselooked at mopidy, but have zero need for spotify et al...16:08
nicomachusducasse: that's really the only reason to do mopidy over mpd. The plugins are nice, but if you don't need them then you don't need mopidy.16:57
nicomachusBut I gotta say, it's awfully cool to be able to build a playlist with tracks from Spotify, Soundcloud, YouTube, and local.16:57
nicomachusAnd it just plays them as if there's no difference in source.16:58
ducassenicomachus: yes, but there are other plugins than those from streaming services that can be useful iirc, and configuration can be nicer than mpd. in the end i settled on mpd as it does what i need with little to no hassle, though.17:00
nicomachusyea, it has plugins for almost every streaming service. Google Play Music is a big one for a lot of people, but I don't use that.17:02
ducassei only use local files, ripped from a massive cd/lp collection. been thinking of using one for mobile, but swappable sd cards work as well :)17:05
immuhi ducasse17:05
nicomachusducasse: if only my phone still supported SD... next one is definitely going to have to. I miss it too much.17:07
ducassewell, microsd actually, but still. yes, it's a must for me. too bad so many are skimping on it.17:10
nicomachus"oh, just use our Cloud service! it's only $14.99 (per month)!"17:17
ducassealso, i'd need to pay for mobile data to actually stream the music, or constantly download/delete stuff17:21
nicomachusno no no, data is unlimited*!17:22
nicomachus(*fees may apply after the first 100mb)17:22
ducasseyeah, those footnotes always mean something nice is coming :)17:23
