Td_Hello~ Is there anyone available who could offer pointers on how to install Lubuntu 17 on a machine - from a USB Thumb Drive - with no other OS installed?14:58
tsimonq2Td_: So is Lubuntu on the USB drive?14:59
Td_Hey tsimonq2; Thanks for responding.  'Yes', Lubuntu has been extracted to the root of a Thumb drive.  This will be targeted to be installed on an Atom CPU 1333MHz. machine.15:00
tsimonq2Td_: Sure, try putting the USB drive in the Atom machine and booting it up, it should boot onto the USB drive.15:01
Td_Currently what comes up is that the machine does not recognize anything on the TD.  I've set the Boot Priority sequence to look at the USB first (and disabled the HDD).15:02
Td_The machine responds with a 'Reboot and Select proper Boot device or insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key' message.15:03
tsimonq2Td_: Excellent, ok. What tool did you use to write the ISO to the USB drive?15:03
Td_Oh; might be a key question to ask.  I simply extracted it using WinRar I believe; whatever comes standard with Windows 7.  Is this problematic?15:04
Td_Are you still there 'tsimonq2'?15:13
tsimonq2Td_: Oh, yes I am.15:14
tsimonq2Td_: Sorry :)15:14
tsimonq2Td_: Yes, it's a bit problematic as the ISO not only contains the files but makes it bootable15:14
Td_Thanks, no trouble.  So, what should I use to extract - or unpack - the iso files?15:15
tsimonq2Hold on, I'm finding it :)15:15
tsimonq2Td_: Here you go, the same exact steps work with the Lubuntu ISO :) https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-create-a-usb-stick-on-windows?_ga=2.133395022.1331823900.1502378104-2004590858.1489273770#015:16
Td_Oh, don't bust a gut, Simon15:16
Td_OK, got it.  I appreciate the link.  Boy, there's so much to wrap one's head around in a Linux domain, isn't there?  Definitely not for the faint of heart, :-).15:17
tsimonq2True :)15:17
tsimonq2Td_: Let me know how that goes! :D15:18
Td_Is Rufus a trustworthy application to download and use to create the bootable Lubuntu dist.?  The site link promotes that!15:20
tsimonq2Td_: Yes it is.15:20
Td_Brilliant!  BTW, I'm more than a little impressed by the level of community user support (and yours).  Thank you! Will check back in to (hopefully) report success.15:23
tsimonq2Td_: You're welcome, glad to help. :D15:24
Td_Hope I can pay it forward for someone else in the future, Simon.  Take care, Td15:27

tsimonq2git-hg: Open a terminal and run this: sudo apt install git-hg16:15
git-hgtried. doesn't work for lubuntu.16:15
git-hgubuntu has package but lubuntu seems not.16:16
tsimonq2git-hg: Oh? Could you please put the exact output in paste.ubuntu.com and give me the link?16:16
wxlhttps://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=hg-fast-export16:16
git-hgi was dumb. it should be hg-fast-export16:16
tsimonq2git-hg: Because all packages that Ubuntu has, Lubuntu should have also16:16
wxlif you read the manpage, it's provided by a particular package16:16
git-hgsry for noise.16:16
tsimonq2git-hg: It's cool :)16:17
