Emerald2When I install lubuntu on a computer with 2 hard drives, what happens with the stuff on the second drive?01:23
inerkickHi Guys. I got Ubuntu 106:07
inerkickHi Guys. I got LUbuntu 17.0406:07
inerkickBut I'm not able to setup wifi hotspot so that I can access the internet using my smartphone. Nor I can use my phone's wifi. Kindly hlep06:07
Emerald2When I install lubuntu on a computer with 2 hard drives, what happens with the stuff on the second drive? Will it still be there and will lubuntu know what to do with it?07:44
leszekEmerald2: you can choose what to do with it basically. Leaving it untouched, resize it, or create mount points for it to automatically mount the partitions on that drive when you boot up07:45
Emerald2Sorry I didn't understand most of that. I'm a newbie.07:46
leszekEmerald2: the installer asks you what do. By default it will detect one of the disks and if they are both already partitioned (so have partitions with data on it) it will ask you to resize that to make space for a "linux" partition where it can install to. You are in control. If you know the names / sizes or whatever to distinguish the two drives you should be able to do the right thing07:50
Emerald2Hmm tricky. They're both the same size and Windows calls them C and D.07:50
leszekLubuntu won't call them C and D :P07:51
Emerald2That's going to be a problem. :P07:51
leszekEmerald2: in general maybe it helps taking a look how the install process works. This is an old video by me but still relevant as most parts did not change07:51

Emerald2Thank you. :)07:52
leszekEmerald2: and one important notice especially for newbies: CREATE BACKUPS07:52
Emerald2Actually it probably wouldn't know what to do with some of the stuff on the 2nd drive. There's probably more music and itunes podcasts than anything.07:53
Emerald2Yep I have backups of the stuff I don't want to lose.07:53
leszeka backup is not one copy of the most important data but the second copy of that important data07:53
Emerald2Right.07:55
Emerald2I'll watch your video and see if I understand better.07:56
testhhhhhhhi, I am getting bad battery life on my acer ES1-512 and tried everything but it stays the same (4hours). any tips to help save battery life?14:39
testhhhhhhI installed tlp but with minimal effect on battery life14:40
testhhhhhhhello?14:41
JEBjamesHello.17:39
JEBjamesI tried the August 23 Lubuntu Next and I notice it didn't install xrandr.  No big deal, I installed it.  But without this GUI resizing in virtualbox is broken.17:40
JEBjamesThe boot menu "install lubuntu next" doesn't work.  Seems to be the exact same as the "try lubuntu next".17:48
JEBjamesSome of the right most buttons in the installer are off-screen in lower resolutions.17:49
JEBjamesOtherwise basic install seems ok.17:50
krytarikJEBjames: Both #lubuntu-devel and #ubuntu+1 are more suitable for this.17:50
JEBjamesThank you.17:50
JEBjamesI'll go msg there.17:51
InvictaI have recently started using Lubuntu and am having trouble installing my printer, a HP 4620 on wireless, can anyone please help?18:19
leszekInvicta: have you tried connecting it directly with the computer already?18:23
leszekbecause it is supported out of the box says openprinting.org18:24
InvictaNo.  I used ubuntu briefly before and it found the printer strait away.  THis time I get a message No Printer Found and Connect to loal host18:25
leszekah so maybe the driver is missing18:25
leszekInvicta: first make sure the cups package is installed so printing in general can work.18:26
InvictaSo how do I find the drive please?18:26
leszekInvicta: and you need the hplip package installed18:26
leszekthis is basically the driver package for all hp printers18:27
InvictaI do get a cups error, but this is all new to me, so I am learning (I hope)18:27
leszekcan you tell me exactly what cups error. Mostly it helps searching for that error online and you get suggestions on how to solve this problem or what this problem actually is18:28
InvictaIt says failed to connect to server18:31
leszekInvicta: is that after installing hplip?18:32
InvictaNo sorry I don't know how to install hplip18:33
leszekah ok. You can use the lubuntu software center or synaptic to install packages18:36
leszekor the command line with the command: sudo apt install hplip18:36
InvictaOK thanks.  I have copied those notes and will try shortly my wife wants her evening meal so got to go now, thanks again.18:38
