hehehefolks - I have poked more into open cart, there is a file and xml file in /system folded with changes required... usually oc backend would detect it and implement00:01
hehehebut now for some reason its yet to happen00:01
naccrbasak: whew, rebased my branch now, and it's split, need to go back and clean it up quite a bit. Are you ok with me landing preparatory commits (such as new, as yet unused APIs) -- or at least maybe we can review all of those tomorrow?00:03
madLyfenacc: ok im back and it looks like my laptop sees the realtek usb ethernet device under live usb desktop00:07
madLyfeand the usb ports work on it00:13
madLyfewow. thats crazy how everything just works on an old as shit laptop00:15
madLyfeim impressed lol00:18
madLyfebeen a while since ive tried nix desktop00:18
sarnoldthat's kidn of the way things go in linux land, after a machine is old enogh to think about retiring it, it mostly works okay. except that it's underpowered enough you're thinking about retiring it...00:18
madLyfeso you couldnt get a 2017 laptop and everything just works?00:20
sarnoldhard to tell :( once upon a time intel was pretty good at video drivers and nic drivers and if you stuck to intel hardware for both you'd be alright. I'm not sure that's still true. :(00:21
madLyfeso this usb adapter makes an attached usb in the hub heat up pretty good.00:22
madLyfedoesnt seem to do the same when plugged into my pc00:23
heheheit should work00:33
hehehethats the idea of linux - ease of use00:33
madLyfelel, you serial?00:34
hehehey4es00:39
heheheit must be so00:39
heheheI agree with Linus00:39
heheheif disto does not work out of box tafa00:39
hehehetada00:39
madLyfenacc: so how should i pull the stuff needed from this live usb?01:18
braziercustoms-mStokachu anything? My signals been in And out.01:27
sarnoldbraziercustoms-m: you missed nothing while you were gone01:28
madLyfeexcept my moaning.01:29
sarnoldhehe01:30
braziercustoms-mSarnold of course lol01:30
braziercustoms-mMadlyfe I been moaning a bit too lol01:33
madLyfei have a usb hub/ethernet adapter that doesnt work on server, but works fine on desktop live usb. need to make it work on server01:35
stokachubraziercustoms-m: so you purged lxd and lxd-client, and have `snap install lxd --candidate`? so snap list shows lxd 2.17?01:46
braziercustoms-mYes01:47
stokachuwhat does `lxc list` show01:52
madLyfenacc: you there?02:27
BrazierCustomsstokachu, lxc list | pastebinit02:34
BrazierCustomshttp://paste.ubuntu.com/25380240/02:34
stokachuBrazierCustoms: so did it work?02:45
BrazierCustomsstokachu, no i got the juju get charm error during conjure-up03:10
BrazierCustomsstokachu, I got running machines but thats all they are doing, no services03:11
stokachuyea not really sure, juju by itself shows the same problem so it's not tied to just conjure-up03:13
BrazierCustomsstokachu, juju status | pastebinit03:14
BrazierCustomshttp://paste.ubuntu.com/25380418/03:14
BrazierCustomsnothing listed03:14
stokachuright b/c juju can't resolve jujucharms.com to get the charms03:14
BrazierCustomsstokachu, but why, if i ssh into machine zero I can resolve stuf like google03:15
BrazierCustomswait maybe not with this setup03:16
stokachui gotta go, if youre around during the day tomorrow ping me and see if i can get remote access to look at it03:19
BrazierCustomsstokachu, ok. I will be on the road most of tomorrow, it will be later afternoon unless I can set you up on the way.03:20
BrazierCustomsthanks03:20
BrazierCustoms"<stokachu> yea not really sure, juju by itself shows the same problem so it's not tied to just conjure-up" it may be notable that though I had seen this problem before, it went away until I did the neutron.sh fix you told me to do.04:05
BrazierCustomsthen it persist through the --edge refresh we did today (which I assume inluded the neutron.sh change?)04:06
BrazierCustomsalso noteable when I realized to juju switch back to the conjure-up controller from the lxd-test we created, I can juju ssh 0 and dig google.com and get an answer, also can dig jujucharms.com and get answer.04:12
BrazierCustomsstokachu, I can also 'juju ssh 12' and get the file on machine 12 (lxd-12) by downloading it via wget. I did notice that the IP address listed in the log file "read udp 10.159.211.197:53743->10.159.211.1:53: i/o timeout" 10.159.211.197 does not appear to exist.04:47

xnoxcpaelzer, any idea why openvswitch is failing on i386?11:41

* xnox cannot migrate kmod =(11:41
* xnox is sad11:41
xnoxor jamespage11:42
TafThornehehehe: traceroute is probably not showing what you think it will.  What it is telling you is the number of devices that will respond to ping along its route.  As a lot of gateways and routeers will not respond to ping, but edge devices like servers will, you often get lots of blanks in the middle.  That does not mean there is not at least one good route to your target, just that you cannot inspect the route.11:43
TafThornehehehe: The way traceroute works is to send a series of pings with increases Time To Live values.  Each time a packet passes through a certain set of devices (I think it is just IP routers, not switches, hubs, gateways or firewalls) they are meant to decriment the Time To Live field in the packet.  When the number reaches 0 they thrown it away.   The idea is that you can find out your nearest routers by pinging with a TTL of 1 or limit broadcast 11:45
hehehei see11:46
TafThornehehehe: At least is what I remember from lectures many moons ago.11:46

cpaelzerxnox: if you look at bug 1630940 and bug 1630578 it might be the test infra is crashing - that was the only mention of the same error I could find12:30

pnglHello! The /boot partition on my server is full. I'm in rescue mode, trying to resize it to 310MB with parted, but I get: "The location 310 is outside of the device /dev/sda1"13:11
ogra_just call "apt autoremove" that should remove old unused kernels13:12
ogra_(and free up space in /boot)13:13
pnglogra_: this fails with "no space left on device"13:13
ogra_autoremove fails ?13:13
pnglogra_: hang on I may have only tried purge. let me give it a shot.13:13
ogra_(it doesnt write anything to /boot, only removes files there)13:13
pnglDuring autoremove I get: "update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.8.0-59-generic", then: "gzip: stdout: No space left on device". It tries to set up many kernel versions before eventually failing.13:20
pnglogra_: ^13:25
ogra_you can also cheat and manually remove older intird's if you are sure you are not using them13:25
ogra_(they will be rmoved anyway by autoremove)13:27
pnglogra_: I've done that, but still not enough space left :/13:29
ogra_huh ?13:30
ogra_are you sure it is referring to /boot at all ?13:30
ogra_df -h /booot13:30

rizonzTafThorne: yes15:03
TafThornerizonz: I  had forgotten my question.15:23
TafThornerizonz: Found it.  I had said "Do you mean the default timezone at installation or something else?"  Well I think it is +00:00 until you setup a local that is anything else.  I cannot say that with any emphatic knowledge though.  I just happen to live at +00:00 so it might be locating that for me every time.15:25
rizonzTafThorne: damn you are lucky :)15:30
rizonzTafThorne: it links the timezone so the system will run UTF I suppose15:30

madLyfeso i was able to get the adapter working on the laptop15:36
madLyfewhen using it on the blade i was able to boot to the live usb via the SUV/IO cable and have internet via the usb adapter on the internal usb, but when i tried to boot the live usb on the adapter from the internal usb it wouldnt work.15:39

naccinternal USB  -> ethernet and a USB dongle -> ethernet?15:52
madLyfeya15:53
naccand basically the latter never works?15:53
madLyfeso i have access to internal USB and the HP SUV/IO maintenance cable coming out the front that you can see.15:53
madLyfei want to get it all to run off the internal USB15:54
madLyfei talked to HPE support and he said you couldnt boot off the internal USB but thats not correct15:54
madLyfeif i run just a USB key off it i can boot anything15:54
madLyfewhat is funny is that if i boot the live USB from the internal USB and have the HUB adapter run off the IO cable USB for internet then i couldnt get it to work. well i only tried once.15:56
madLyfebut i dont want that config anyways15:56
naccmadLyfe: so when you boot from the live usb on the internal, you don't have internet? but it does boot?15:58
madLyfeso right now i have the live usb attached to the adapter and internet plugged into the internal usb. but i cant get it to boot, says 'non -system disk or disk error'16:02
naccmadLyfe: sounds like an unsupported config :)16:03
madLyfeif i take the live usb and put it on the front IO cables USB then i can boot to it and when it loads i will have internet from the adapter that is still plugged into the internal USB16:07
madLyfeand i can also put another usb key on that hub and is recognized16:07
madLyfeso that internal usb port does work for internet and usb storage but like not till its booted up(when using the adapter)16:09
madLyfeso im not sure if its the adapters fault i cant boot from it?16:18
madLyfehmm that doesnt make any sense. how can i use the usb hub adapter from the internal USB port when i boot live USB from external port but not when i try to boot from the internal port w USB hub connected, exclusively?16:47
madLyfeso the port works for those functions, just not from boot?16:47
naccmadLyfe: certainly possible that's it's not a bootable port16:47
madLyfebut if i plug the usb live key or server iso key into it exclusively and bypass the adapter it boots fine to those.16:48
madLyfethats why im confused16:50
madLyfeit would make sense if it just didnt boot to anything at all16:51
madLyfenacc: found this in the manual: http://i.imgur.com/k7o8G4u.png wonder if it means anything? i know i switched it from legacy to standard usb 2.0 support. not sure if that matters16:59

Epx998so this blade doesnt have onboard ethernet?20:19
madLyfewell not when its out of chassis20:20
sarnoldR0cketM0nster: do you get to see the ICMP time exceeded in-transit messages from the switch when using tcpdump?20:21
Epx998madLyfe: where is what i'd do, try with a desktop usb to see if the usb ether is dectected, if you dont want to do that - create an updated initrd.gz file with all that usb/network modules for whatever kernel the installer is using20:21
madLyfeonly ports it has are an internal USB and microSD with the fron HP SUV/IO cable(VGA, 2 USB, 1 serial)20:21
Epx998whats the model of the blade chassis this blade is in?20:23
madLyfeits not in a chassis20:23
madLyfepicture: https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/uvzdYXgZ/irccloudcapture1256683132.jpg20:23
Epx998you just have it out20:23
Epx998thats some stuff right there20:24
sarnoldheh, I guess that finally answers one of my long-standing question, if the chassis is necessary for blades. yeah, pretty much :) hehe20:24
Epx998ha yeah20:25
R0cketM0nster@sarnold, sorry but how would i do that?20:25
Epx998madLyfe: are you able to boot into bios?20:25
madLyfeits running can install server, but i cant get this noname usb/ethernet adapter to work.20:25
madLyfeya20:26
sarnoldR0cketM0nster: I did 'tcpdump -n -i eth0' in one window while running 'traceroute ....' in another window20:26
Epx998are there any bios settings for the internal microsd ?20:26
Epx998madLyfe: so you haver zero network20:26
Epx998ok so try this20:26
madLyfeya one sec20:26
madLyfewas looking at this: https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-newbie-8/error-attempt-to-read-or-write-outside-of-disk-%27hd0%27-ubutnu-14-04-a-4175502753/20:28
Epx998note the kernel you are using on that blade, on another server with networking, download the kernel driver modules for usb and networking - install on this blade, modprobe a few drivers and see if you get it working?20:29
madLyfehttps://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/5u39xIpT/irccloudcapture1368982153.jpg20:30
madLyfewell thats why i was using desktop. cuz i got the ethernet to work once20:31
madLyfehavent been able to since.20:31
Epx998then its most likely a driver issue20:31
Epx998i think ubuntu ships desktop with a lot more drivers than server20:31
Epx998but you can easily add them to server20:31
sarnoldEpx998: oh? the kernels are the same, I'm not sure where the extra drivers would go..20:33
madLyfeEpx998: here is a breakdown of the convo between nacc and i about it. it provides some context: https://gist.github.com/eafaf4005d5035728211e74cdaeb6aee20:34
Epx998server doesnt ship with the extra stuff right? like megaraid20:34
Epx998mptsas20:34
madLyfedesktop has 4.10 and most recent server only has 4.4 still20:35
Epx998madLyfe: dunno, when a device is not detected, we add drivers into the kernel module20:36
Epx998im just suggesting doing that20:36
Epx998you running trusty or xenial?20:36
madLyfebut in that text convo i note that i cant get the hub adapter to work before any OS anyways.20:36
madLyfewhat are those? doesnt help that im a newb at nix.20:36
madLyfeummm i think i just won the lottery20:37
Epx998you running 14 or 16?20:37

madLyfelol20:38
madLyfeso i turned off the usb 2.0 controller in that picture above and now im booting from the live desktop usb from a port on that hub. nothing else is plugged in.20:39

Epx998you dont know what release youre using?  o O20:39

madLyfe1620:39
Epx998thats xenial20:39
madLyfeUbuntu Server 16.04.3 LTS20:40
madLyfebut server doesnt have the newer kernel.20:40
Epx998what does uname -r say?20:40
madLyfei know this because even installing 16.04.3 i had to manually upgrade it to 4.1020:41

Epx998get a dang usb cdrom, burn an iso on a cd.. install the os20:42
Epx998lol20:42
Epx998get an os on there20:42

baldersonHi, I'm using autofs to mount a NFS.  it's mounting fine, but when do an ls in the target directory noting displays until i touch one of the files in the NFS which i know exists, is that expected behavior?22:04
sarnoldbalderson: guessing here, ls -l ? or ls ? I'm curious if the id lookups are slow ..22:12
