john85hi folks11:00
john85currently running 14.04,  thinking of updating to 17.04,  any thoughts?11:03
hateballjohn85: that there's no supported upgrade steps for doing so afaik11:12
hateballyou can still do it, just expect various breakage11:12
hateball14.04 -> 16.04 is not supported on kubuntu iirc, and then you'd need to move to EOL 16.10 before going to 17.10 at any rate11:13
hateballSo... I'd backup and install fresh11:13
john85are you saying its less stable than 14.04?11:13
hateballNo, I am saying that it's not a supported upgrade path11:13
hateballas in all of KDE SC 4.x doesnt migrate over to KDE Plasma 5.x11:14
john85ah ok,  its just i keep getting reminders that there is a newer version available,  although I do have it on disc too,  but dont want the hassle of installing all the apps again11:15
john85although i know a fresh install is always the better option11:17
hateballLike I said, you can do it (I did)11:17
hateballBut things will likely break and leave old cruft behind11:17
john85when u say break,  what do you mean?11:17
hateballfor instance the kwallet doesnt migrate over, at least it didnt for me11:18
hateballso you'll want to export your backup from kwallet4 so it can be imported to kwallet511:18
john85ok,  i can try it,  if things dont work,  ill just do a fresh install11:18
hateballyeah11:18
hateballand like I said, 16.10 is end of life so there's some hoops to jump through to go to 17.0411:19
hateballlest you wait for 18.04 which will also be LTS11:19
john85is there a release date for that?11:21
john85decided to go for it...11:25
hateballjohn85: year 18, month 411:28
hateballit's quite logical, see :)11:28
john85ah..ok11:30
john85so not long11:30
john85well,  its upgrading me to 16.04 at the moment....and i have no idea what that version is like11:31
john85once its dowloaded everything i think ill close everything11:32
john85k,  see you later :)11:33
john85assuming everything goes to plan11:33

Alex-ZionHi everyone, I have a big network problem with kubuntu 16.04.2, seems that DNS doesn't work anymore at all, any suggestion14:11
DragnslcrAlex-Zion- open /etc/resolv.conf and check what's listed for name servers14:29
IrcsomeBot<DGUERRERO> @Alex-Zion, I had a lot of problems with dns too, it seems networkmanager integration with dnsmasq wasn't working fine, so I had to tell Networkmanager to not use dnsmasq and disable it from systemctl16:31
IrcsomeBot<DGUERRERO> after that, can uninstall it wihout problems, sadly i had to install it again as a dependency for another program16:32
zorin-osanyone know how to fix this? https://paste.pound-python.org/raw/8zHzXF74xcOo1w4nWo6f/18:58
