=== moondoggy_ is now known as moondoggy === ubuntu is now known as Guest43790 [16:38] Hello everybody [17:54] first time install, on r-pi [17:54] default browser Firefox crashes on run, even after update/upgrade [18:07] Hello all, are there other IRC Channels for Ubuntu or Linux in general where one could join and follow along and maybe learn from? [18:08] official ubuntu channel [18:09] wondering, anyone else have a failed firefox install on fresh install to raspberry pi? [18:09] diogenes_, thank you. [18:09] yw [18:10] is my chat visible? [18:10] yes lsmith_ [18:10] Thomas_123, there's also ##linux [18:10] ok, thanks for that, [18:10] Akuli, Thank you. [18:10] lsmith_, how did it fail? just doesn't run when you try to start it? [18:13] crashes immediately on start [18:13] run it from terminal [18:13] start of browser. [18:13] kk [18:13] press ctrl+alt+t, type firefox, press enter [18:13] does it display anything on the terminal? [18:14] ExceptionHandler::GenerateDump cloned child 1904 [18:14] ExceptionHandler::SendContinueSignalToChild sent continue signal to child [18:14] ExceptionHandler::WaitForContinueSignal waiting for continue signal... [18:14] then crash window pops up. [18:14] this doesn't seem like a problem with ubuntu mate [18:14] this is on Ubuntu mate [18:14] yes, but seems to be firefox's fault [18:15] you could figure out where you're supposed to report firefox bugs [18:15] ok fair enough. Ill try and put chrome onto it [18:15] chromium will actually work [18:15] the bug autoreported. [18:15] ok [18:15] run this on terminal: sudo apt install chromium [18:15] so, apt-get install chromium ? [18:15] afaik full chrome isn't available on raspberry pi [18:16] yes [18:16] Package chromium is not available, but is referred to by another package. [18:16] This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or [18:16] is only available from another source [18:16] However the following packages replace it: [18:16] chromium-bsu [18:16] E: Package 'chromium' has no installation candidate [18:16] so then the bsu one... [18:17] bsu is a game [18:17] not a browser [18:17] :/ hmmm [18:18] catch 22, i'll go google up the right package from another omputer. [18:18] ah-ha! chromium-browser [18:19] thanks for the tip then... I could have tried to browse with a game all morning. :) [18:20] lol [18:20] lsmith_, you could also try Epiphany, Iceweasel and Midori [18:21] Iceweasel sounds like my kinda browser. [18:21] fire? fox? I get it.... [18:22] icewessel is a debia rebrading of firefox so you could try it [18:22] first day in Unbuntu, heady times. [18:22] try all of then and see which one you like best [18:23] well, chromuim works. I'll message the maintainer of the r-pi packaging, FireFox may not be the best one to go with. [18:23] least it's not Edge!!! [18:23] haha [18:23] I'd rather have firefox that crashes, than edge that works. [18:24] agree [18:24] well thanks guys/gals. I'm off to the races. [18:24] yw [18:27] lsmith_, have a great day. [18:30] If we create a windows vm using virtualbox on one machine and move or clone it to another machine does it cause issues with the vm? I have moved a vm from one install to another on the same machine without issue but curious if it breaks down moving it to a new machine. [18:30] i have never tried it but i don't see why it would break [18:35] Akuli, I was just curious as switching of hardware can cause a normal windows machine issues but was thinking in a vm, the hardware would stay the same. I just made the switch to linux as my daily driver about two weeks ago. I have really only my password manager in windows I am still getting data moved over from. [18:36] Akuli, It is still nice having the ability to jump into a windows vm and run a program like xnview for example. Had to convert and resize a jump drive of images the other day and was a little lost. Tried the linux version of xnview but it was slow and seemed to be missing stuff. [18:37] Akuli, imagamagick looks great but need to learn how it works before taking on anything to big with it. [18:38] at least you won't run out of features with imagemagick [18:39] Akuli, no I really look forward to learning to use it properly. [18:40] gui or command-line? [18:40] Akuli, if though winxp and win8.1 boot in like 12sec or less in vm I really don't care to use it unless I really need it. [18:40] Akuli, Is there a gui for imagemagick? [18:41] it has a thingy i guess you could call a gui [18:41] i have never tried to use it, seems weird to me [18:41] Akuli, I am thinking just learn to write scripts for it will be best. [18:41] ok :) [18:42] Akuli, Started going through a lot of tutorials on gimp and inkscape and so happy to dump adobe. [18:42] i don't need imagemagick often but when i do need it it's nice to have something with a command-line interface [18:44] Akuli, I think that learning to get the mindset of using the commandline when possible over a gui is something I am working on. Even though I started with computers with dos, windows has somewhat changed my approach to getting things done. [18:45] Akuli, I have loved using the terminal so far in linux and am starting to see the benefits of it over always looks for a gui program to get something done. [19:28] Hi who's up? [20:17] Hi, who's up? [20:17] Seems a dead room to me [20:18] nik_, welcome to the black pearl [20:18] Yoooooooooooo [20:18] What's the black pearl??? [20:19] ghost pirate ship [20:19] OMG [20:19] Really where are the ghostss? [20:20] don't ask, it's dangerous [20:21] We're here [20:22] Glad to be here then >:D< [20:29] https://ubuntu-mate.org/blog/ubuntu-mate-artful-beta1/ [20:50] what kind of craziness have i heard about in the last few months? i've been offline and away from ubuntu-mate for a long time [20:57] Gallomimia, what crazyness in particular? [20:58] well for now i'll ride right over the part that is systemd discussion, but i'm interested to know what it means that ubuntu vanilla is adopting gnome3 [20:59] Meh, that's not an Ubuntu MATE problem, and boy indeed you've been away for a while. Are you aware Ubuntu Phone is dead too? [21:00] I'm gonna sleep, good night. [21:01] ah. sort of.... [21:01] g'night. its late there eh? here's its 2pm [21:03] 11PM in France, gotta get up at 5. ^^ [21:04] You can check out the release notes for the various releases if you want to catch up on the evolution of Ubuntu MATE [21:04] Cheers [21:48] is there a website maintainer in here? if so the link for the beta torrent is wrong [21:54] mate|76750: Thanks. Fixing now. [21:55] mate|76750: The magnet links should be good though. [21:56] i figured out which it should be so i used the normal one :)
