=== owner_ is now known as fareast [02:48] word up [02:48] I just realized I could run flipboard on linux [02:48] how many android apps have a port on here [02:49] I am not using ubuntu but am using elementary and I think it is like the same thing right? [02:49] In all honesty should I be running an android emulator [02:50] what is going to get me the best experience from a linux machine as far as apps? [02:50] I am looking for using it as a desktop option [02:50] I currently love windows 10 and see nothing wrong with it although I don't like how unpersonal windows has become it is just too easy especially if you work in IT [02:51] fareast: Better to ask in ##linux . [02:51] thanks for the response [02:51] see you guys later [05:46] morning all [05:52] good morning [06:17] hey ducasse o/ [06:17] how are you? [06:21] hi EriC^^, all good here. you? [06:22] good thanks [06:23] any plans for the day? :) [06:24] plan to do a little coding for some script now [06:24] i want to add a "top useful comments" to the right side of youtubextras.com [06:25] what about you? [06:27] not sure, maybe i'll try to finish a few chapters of the python book. i was also given an external disk a while back i've been planning to encrypt and write a backup script for. [06:27] plus a udev trigger, so i just need to plug it in. [06:30] cool [06:30] i want to right a udev script or maybe a keyboard shortcut for the hdmi plug out/plug in, sometimes it doesn't switch back to laptop output [06:32] either should be quite easy, udev rule would be nicer [06:32] yup [06:33] is 'xrandr --auto' enough to fix it when this happens? [06:37] the screen works properly, the sound doesn't switch sometimes though [06:38] sometimes it switches, then when i logout and back in it'll go back to hdmi, it's kind of odd [06:40] right, that sounds weird. maybe there are log messages from pulse? [06:40] that's a good idea, i'll check it out [06:59] hey immu [07:22] Good morning [07:22] morning lordievader o/ [07:25] Hey EriC^^, how are you? [07:26] good thanks, what about you? [07:27] how are you doing? [07:27] \o lordievader [07:27] lordievader, good morning [07:27] hi ducasse [07:27] immu: good thanks, how are you? [07:28] Doing good here :) [07:29] Hey immu [07:30] had my breakfast and taking with my sister on skype :) you all [12:09] howdy all [12:09] mornin' Blueskaj [12:11] 'Morning brunch_ [12:24] I installed unity [12:24] don't try to stop me [12:29] aaaah I missed it much [12:29] it's the best DE, don't understand the hate :( [12:31] It's terrible on high-res and multi-monitor systems [12:34] I'm on high-res on a multi-monitor setup [12:34] :s [12:35] I have 6 hi-res monitors; unity is unusuable on this setup. It gets in the way, puts applications on the wrong monitor, doesn't figure out the correct res for maximised windows on a single monitor, and other issues [12:36] oh I just use the big screen attached to my laptop [12:38] And that sidebar launcher thing always gets in the way, or pops out when I move to a monitor on the left, or it sometimes would grab the mouse and prevent it moving to the left monitor [12:39] the problem with unity was it's origins was in creating a GUI for phones/tablets and then forcing hi-res desktops to use the same layout, which simply doesn't scale properly for hi-res systems (forcing app menu's to the single top taskbar for example - until revolt forced the intro of the option to prevent that) [12:50] brunch: heh you're only delaying the inevitable [12:56] I solved the PSX controller missing buttons issue - turned out both devices I was testing with (a dualshock 2 and a dance-mat) had hardware failures (broken traces on their flexible ribbons). I had more of those devices stored away and fetched them and everything works fine [12:56] So I wasted almost a day thinking there was a problem with the evdev/libinput stuff [13:19] oof. [14:11] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piyUrLFvVUw [14:12] EriC^^, hi ducasse BluesKaj :) [14:40] nice video immu [14:41] .. especially the universal access menu .. still watching [14:42] cursor size, nice [14:49] immu: what Telegram app was that? [14:49] just a desktop client from Telegram itself? [14:52] snap i guess [14:52] telegram-sergiusens ? [14:53] i am not sure as i didn't make the videos [14:53] but you will get it in the app store [14:55] well I'm using an app called Franz that wraps Telegram in with a lot of others, I was going to recommend it. Haha [14:55] hey immu [14:58] hey === kostkon_ is now known as kostkon [16:25] good evening to all [16:26] hey, lotus! :) [16:26] wb :) [16:26] hey ducasse how are you? [16:26] lotuspsychje, ducasse hi [16:26] hi immu [16:26] whats up [16:27] i'm sleepy - zZzZzZ... :) [16:27] :p [16:27] rainy here, movienight [16:27] and short break on irc [16:27] hot here [16:27] dry and hot [16:27] watching what? [16:27] send a small video of your rainyday [16:28] ducasse: a french movie [16:28] immu: im not a social mediafreak :p [16:28] immu: your gonna have to trust my word [16:29] i just wanted to see a rainy day on your side of the planet [16:29] it's been raining here too, but not atm - just really grey [16:29] immu: google belgium forecast [16:29] sure [16:32] immu: a picture, if that helps you ;) https://dl2.pushbulletusercontent.com/SDJCbL6WDROx9KC71STPInaEyEGNL37L/20170908_182947.jpg [16:33] ducasse: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0926759/ [16:33] lotuspsychje, thats lovely thnx [16:33] was pretty decent [16:33] nice backyard :) [16:36] the skies look a lot darker irl, bad camera on that phone [16:37] lotuspsychje: not heard of it, french movies don't get much coverage here [16:40] ducasse: i see [16:40] ducasse: nordic and english then? [16:43] yup, mostly. [16:44] i saw a poster for 'it' today, will probably go see that. [16:45] ducasse: lets hope its gonna be better then dark tower :p [16:45] ducasse: is it totaly new, or the remake of the old one? [16:45] hey BluesKaj [16:46] hi lotuspsychje [16:47] lotuspsychje: remake, aiui [16:47] i guess !wayland might need a remake soon also [16:47] !wayland [16:47] Wayland is a display server protocol that is intended to replace X. More information can be found at http://wayland.freedesktop.org/ . Ubuntu is instead focusing on development of !Mir; see its factoid for more information. [16:48] ouch [16:48] rip mir :p [16:48] hi BluesKaj :) [16:48] hey ducasse [16:50] I've been wondering about wayland, and the good news is there's work progressing towards nvidia support for it [16:52] BluesKaj: work in wich way you know? [16:52] don't ask me were i saw that,m but it's nvidia linux devs afaik [16:53] where [16:54] BluesKaj: do you know what the actual problem is/has been? just reluctance? [16:55] yes, thaink they needed a kick in the butt to get moving on wayland support ...probly just "benign neglect" [16:55] laziness, in other words :) [16:56] yup [16:58] think it was on one of the fedora project pages or one of it's developers blogs [17:01] well I'm off to to some yardwork for a couple hrs ...BBL [17:01] laterz [17:01] don't think i've seen a "how do i configure this?" wayland question before in #ubuntu, in many ways i'm not looking forward to them [17:01] lol [17:02] wouldnt know where to start [17:03] well, i've played with it for a while, and there are plenty of things i know how to do in x11 that is just completely missing [17:04] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayland_(display_server_protocol) [17:04] lets c lol [17:05] jesus thats some heavy stuff [17:09] tl;dr [17:10] so, stuff like hidpi and resolutions, for example - is that up to the individual compositors to handle? [17:10] i have no idea ducasse [17:14] looks like it, from the little i can find [17:18] https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_debug_Wayland_problems [17:19] good find :) i'm on the arch wiki myself, always my first stop :) [17:23] hey EriC^^ [17:26] mmm that wiki situation is a sad one [17:26] meep-meep! [17:26] seemed like such a minefield every time i tried to improve a 'buntu page, though [17:28] * lotuspsychje_ hates lags grrr === lotuspsychje_ is now known as lotuspsychje [17:32] i posted the mms prob on a belgium provider forum [17:32] ah har [17:32] 90% of replies "so that's the guy that uses MMS" :D [17:32] a guy posted his mms settings [17:33] and their all the same, so probably its provider block somehow [17:35] hrmm, yeah definitely a weird one! although i once had a quirk with a telco in England where texts wouldn't send and i'd get charged, it was because the SIM had an incorrect "message service center" built in [17:35] the phone i had at the time had no way to change that, so i had to just pop into the telco shop and get a newer SIM [17:36] not sure if the age of SIM is relevant to your client [17:36] aha thats an idea daftykins [17:36] they sent the new simcard through the mail [17:36] EriC^^: here we go, silvian returns... [17:36] lotuspsychje, ask your carrier to msg you the settings to your phone [17:36] install and reboot [17:36] ducasse: troll? [17:37] yeah settings aren't gonna help [17:38] daftykins: the weird thing was, on the phone apn settings there was a whole list of apn's [17:38] yeah usually android handsets just guess and you have to pick (but only for data) [17:38] lotuspsychje: "i know *everything*", except he really doesn't [17:38] ducasse: uh-oh [17:38] mine only has my data one, then the mms one [17:40] daftykins: this provider is a 'branch' of another bigger provider, perhaps they block new customers of same settings? [17:40] i had this with my phone once [17:41] main provider had to enter some number in router, but they took too long to do it [17:41] so phone didnt work [17:41] hey lotuspsychje daftykins ducasse [17:41] immu [17:41] \o [17:42] lotuspsychje: i watched pirates of the carribean today, it was kind of fun [17:42] lotuspsychje: ooooh is it an MVNO perhaps? mobile virtual network operator, use anothers' equipment but operate on their own [17:42] what EriC^^ ? [17:42] i watched wonder woman? [17:43] lotuspsychje, which phone you got? [17:43] daftykins: not really, its a new existing provider, but also uses same dsl lines in belgium [17:43] immu: i got ubuntu aquarius 4.5 [17:43] immu: but this mms problem is on a galaxy A3 2017 [17:44] can't remember, did touch die entirely on phone? [17:45] daftykins: updates stopped on july 2017 [17:45] and that's it forever more? [17:45] but im still using it atm [17:45] daftykins: i should install the ubports image now [17:46] that projects continues the job [17:46] #ubports [17:46] nicomachus: oh i read a claim that oreo is using mobile data even with wifi on and connected, but i always turn mobile data off manually so i've no idea if it's true :D [17:46] daftykins: also turnoff data myself [17:47] i only pay for 500MB/month :) [17:48] i got prepaid, 50 euro for few months [18:07] lotuspsychje: did you see shotcaller yet? [18:07] EriC^^: not yet you? [18:08] nope not yet [18:08] tv time here guys [18:08] first ep of the voice of flanders [18:08] laterz all [18:09] the voice of flanders? [18:09] simpsons flanders? [18:09] maybe we should google it ? [18:10] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Voice_van_Vlaanderen [18:10] ohhh [18:12] The Voice van Vlaanderen [18:12] :) [18:15] i'm hyped for the america's got talent show [18:15] every year i watch it on youtube, pretty close this year [18:42] EriC^^: mmcblk0p2 == ? AHCI set in nios ? and recon this is a NVME device where we want the boot parameter nvme_load=YES ?? [18:43] Bashing-om: that's one of the hybrid tablet pc's [18:43] bios/nios [18:43] https://youtu.be/aSWihp6yV4Q [18:43] nah MMC is non-NVMe :) [18:45] daftykins: :) .. Oh when can we return you to ubuntu support direct ... Oh me oH My :) [18:47] yeah [18:52] let's make ubuntu great again! [18:53] haha [18:53] EriC^^, yeah [18:53] XD [18:53] EriC^^: Great ... I miss 10.04 ! [19:00] hmm [19:00] back when times were simple :) [19:01] yeah
