=== brainwash_ is now known as brainwash [06:46] AndrzejL: aiui gnome has dropped support for tray icons, or it's coming soon. could be related to that. steam probably uses an indicator instead. [06:57] indicators will come to right upper corner indeed instead of tray applet at left down corner [07:02] don't you now need an extension for the tray icons? [07:02] ducasse: the extension will be vanilla installed, canonical forked one [07:03] indicators + dash to dock are installed by default [07:03] i got both enabled, but didnt see indicators yet [07:03] perhaps still worked on? [07:04] dunno, i just read about it a while back. [07:05] i can manage them with gnome-tweak-tool on/off [07:07] knotify..something [07:08] * ducasse nods [15:06] ducasse: interesting, thanks for that info! [15:09] nacc: np, i'll try to test a few electron snaps myself on both 17.04 and 17.10 to check when i find the time. should i just try the ones that have been mentioned so far? [15:10] ducasse: that's probably easiest [15:10] ok, will do - hopefully tomorrow. === JanC_ is now known as JanC [17:07] Is there 17.10 desktop iso image other than the daily build? [17:11] Not that i know of, for desktop. === nacc_ is now known as nacc [17:24] sary: there's the beta image afaik [17:26] ducasse: [17:27] So you reckon they will fix the tray icons? [17:27] Or did they get rid of them? [17:28] AndrzejL: read what lotus said following me, he knows gnome better as i don't use it myself [17:29] Ah yes [17:30] I am a fresh meat to gnome myself [17:30] ducasse: I searched the web for the beta1 image and the alpha's , but didn't find any. [17:30] KDE / plasma is my desktop of choice but I like the Ubuntu Gnome and want to give it a spin before installing plasma [17:31] Altho recently I find myself being bored with Plasma.. maybe its time for change... [17:34] someone is experiencing freezes with the daily build image on an actual install and the live session with a 7th Gen. Intel i5 + Intel 620 GPU. [17:37] sary: if you're talking about ubuntu - then nothing other than dailies for that [17:43] flocculant: Hiya, Yes Ubuntu, not the flavors! Noted, Thanks. [17:43] sary, someone = you ? [17:45] oerheks: not me, someone else #See https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2370990 [17:46] oke, so it does not affect you? [17:47] No, am flyin' xubuntu for awhile with no such issue. [17:47] sary: \o/ [18:59] Question about the tomcat8 package... Debian Stable ('stretch') has version 8.5.14, but Artful still only includes 8.0.38. I haven't gone digging but I'm assuming that since versino 8.5 is in Debian stable, it's been available for a fairly long time. Is there a reason Ubuntu will still ship an older version? [19:01] the ubuntu tomcat package carries additional patches, there it will not be auto synced with debian [19:02] therefore I mean [19:04] nettlejam: I suggest opening a bug report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tomcat8 [19:06] brainwash - thanks, i'll do that [19:06] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SyncRequestProcess [19:07] the first paragraph explains how it works [19:15] Well, filed - hope i did it right :P https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tomcat8/+bug/1716471 [19:15] Launchpad bug 1716471 in tomcat8 (Ubuntu) "Ubuntu package version 8.0.x in Artful lags behind Debian Stable at 8.5.x" [Undecided,New] [19:17] I think adding the correct Tags will help [19:18] "upgrade-software-version" [19:19] ah, thanks [19:20] sorry - not familiar with the process [19:21] so, the bad news is that it's too late in the dev cycle to upgrade the version [19:23] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ArtfulAardvark/ReleaseSchedule [19:24] Do you think this will at least raise the issue so that it may be included in the 18.04 release? [19:24] of course [19:25] That works for me then :) [19:25] Thanks for the help [19:26] you're welcome === ubott2 is now known as ubottu === brainwash_ is now known as brainwash === dkessel_ is now known as dkessel
