mrgoodcatyou have to warn people before sending pictures of amputated legs13:56
brouschThat escalated quickly14:07
rick_hlol14:23
jrwrenI use meta-backspace to "delete word" in bash to quickly edit command lines. It uses special chars as word boundary. Does anyone know if there is a similar binding which will delete to whitespace? sometimes it would be nice to backspace through ALL of the paths instead of path part at a time.14:27
jrwrenso... AFTER I asked that, I figured I should read the bash man page, and bash/readline DOES have a command, but it is not bound by default.  YAY!14:30
_stink_jrwren: does ctrl-w do what you want?14:33
jrwrenexactly what I wanted. Thanks _stink_14:35
_stink_o/ i think cmaloney tipped me to that some time ago.14:35
rick_hvim binding ftw14:36
rick_hdt[char]14:36
jrwrensubtle diff to M-rubout  :)14:36
jrwrenrick_h: do you `set -o vi`?14:37
jrwrenwhat is the vim key for rubout anyway?  can you bs-t-[char] ?14:38
rick_hjrwren: using zsh and a bunch of vimy stuff. jj works for esc like in my editor, have some stuff in my prompt for cmd mode vs edit mode14:38
jrwrenhahaha, I don't know vi commands well enough to do the equiv of what I just did with emacs. As a long time vim user, that is pretty sad.14:39
jrwrenI just tried teh equiv and when I did, I realized that in vim, I'd have navigated back adn then used forward remove instead of simply using back remove.14:39
rick_hjrwren: yea, was just trying myself and realized that's what I'd do14:40
rick_hbbdt]14:40
jrwren:)14:40
rick_hor get inside some chars and di[ and all that jazz14:40
mrgoodcatjrwren: bash prompt does a lot of emacs keybindings by default14:40
mrgoodcatso delete word comes from that14:41
jrwrenmrgoodcat: yup, but the subtle difference between "word" adn "unix word" is waht I was asking and _stink_ delivered.14:41
jrwrenany emacs users know if that works in emacs too?14:41
jrwrenor is it a readline thing?14:41
mrgoodcatit works in emacs iirc14:42
mrgoodcatit comes from emacs14:42
mrgoodcatnope14:42
mrgoodcatctrl+w "mark is set now"14:42
mrgoodcatin completely unconfigured emacs14:42
mrgoodcatmust be readline14:43
jrwrencool!14:44
mrgoodcatah14:45
mrgoodcat"mark is not set"14:45
mrgoodcatis what it said14:45
mrgoodcati'm just slow14:45
mrgoodcatctrl+space sets the mark14:45
mrgoodcatctrl+w deletes from current location to the mark14:45
mrgoodcatso ctrl+w in readline just behaves as if the mark is set at the start of the previous word14:45
mrgoodcati guess14:45

cmaloneybe careful with vim readline though: some prompts that use it start acting strange16:26
cmaloneyeg: the guile REPL doesn't do parens matching if I have vi mode set16:26
cmaloneyI think that's common on some GNU REPLs because there's a heavy emacs bias. ;)16:27
dickweedi'm not sure i'll ever want to work without ANC headphones ever again17:27
