[02:22] How do I make a boot-able dvd and add a ISO? [02:26] !dvd [02:26] Ubuntu's default installation and repositories do not include packages needed to play commercial DVDs for legal reasons. For information on adding them, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/PlayingDVDs | For information on the legalities involved, see the "DVD" section of https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FreeFormats [02:26] oh pfff [02:26] !iso [02:26] To mount an ISO disc image, type « sudo mount -o loop » - There is a list of useful cd image conversion tools at http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/CD_Image_Conversion - Always verify the ISO using !MD5 before !burning. [02:27] oh for crying out loud [02:27] !bootable [02:27] nope [02:27] !usb [02:27] For information about installing Ubuntu from USB flash drives, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick - For a persistent live USB install, see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent [02:28] the from USB stick follows for DVDs as well [02:28] user|44684: you have a bit backwards -- by burning the ISO on it, you make it bootable [02:31] This is for windows 10 ISO so I can install it on another computer. The ISO is not bootable as is, Microsoft has a tool to make it bootable but just for windows machins. [02:39] This is a Windows 10, I guess I will have to go to a Windows PC to do the! Thanks. [02:41] I have no interest or knowledge of win [02:41] this is a Kubuntu channel [02:42] I have another question. I wanted to update my Kubuntu, this PC, but all the passwords I think I would have used do not work. how do I reset my password? [02:42] your user password? [02:42] !passw [02:42] hmmm [02:43] There does not seem to be an option to get this done [02:43] you should google that - I do not know [02:43] oh yes, there is, but it involves chrooting in from a different user, etc. [02:43] Is there a help on this site that I can ask? [02:44] I see there is a Support on the tool bar [02:44] this isn't really a kubuntu question, but you can ask in #ubuntu or ##linux [02:44] or perhaps if you stick around someone else will know [02:45] as I said, this is about Kubuntu [02:45] I am not talking about the windows thing now, but my Kubuntu account. [02:46] a quick google got me to https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/user-forgottenpassword.html [02:47] hope that helps [02:48] yes I will click on it now. Thank you so much Valarie. Bye for now. [03:24] NetworkManager keeps setting my /etc/resolv.conf nameserver to 127.0.1.1 and I can't find 127.0.1.1 hardwired anywhere in /etc, how can I disable this? (I have another IP in plasma-nm settings for eth0) [03:33] mmm, there is a bug about this markc [03:34] !dvdhttps://askubuntu.com/questions/627899/nameserver-127-0-1-1-in-resolv-conf-wont-go-away might help [03:34] valorie: I am only a bot, please don't think I'm intelligent :) [03:34] dang it [03:34] https://askubuntu.com/questions/627899/nameserver-127-0-1-1-in-resolv-conf-wont-go-away [03:36] markc: please add your input to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1647133 [03:36] Launchpad bug 1647133 in network-manager (Ubuntu) "dns=dnsmasq does not work any more" [High,Fix released] [03:37] it's a rare problem but keeps popping up occasionallyt [03:43] valorie: thank you for the link, appreciated. I have no dns=dnsmasq entry at all and my /etc/resolv.conf is a static file. I'll try disabling resolvconf and networkmanager altogether and see if old school systemctl start networking still works. There is no bridge option in plasma-nm anyway so I'll have to use /etc/network/interfaces if I want a bridge back on my main lappie. [03:45] valorie: actually I have used the stock ubuntu networkmanager in the past to create a bridge and then remove the packages and the system-connection file sticks around and works with plasma-nm === rudra_ is now known as rudra [14:29] hiyas all [14:33] morning BluesKaj [14:34] so adding the printer from the settings panel worked but I could not change the options... [14:35] curious but not enough to care, I just cannot print colour :( [14:36] hi douglasl did you find the colour mode in print options [14:38] configure>print options [14:39] BluesKaj, once you pointed me to the right spot I found what you explained and all the options and I can change them (it - colour/monochrome) but it does not get retained... [14:40] when I open the options again it is back to mono chrome... but like I said (no more students) I don't really care about coulour anymore [14:40] ok, did you check the "make printer -default" just for this session , til you use the other printer [14:41] no [14:41] that might be the key to retain your colour options [14:43] BluesKaj, thanks I will tinker a bit more over coffee here... [14:43] right [14:43] anyone gonna kubuntu anything cool today... [14:44] * dougl tries to stay on-topic :) [14:48] kubuntu something? [14:56] acheronuk, kidding - I set up a 17.04 desktop finally - print server on linux, and I will 'kubuntu' some NFS when I learn, but just funny sloppy speak [15:03] Does anyone know what this toggling speaker symbol in the taskbar at the chromium application means? [15:04] There is a small icon that indicates a speaker. It appears for a couple of seconds and than disappears. === PaoloP is now known as faLUCE === vlad_ is now known as DranikProgrammer === dnovick is now known as docdave === dnovick is now known as docdave === dnovick is now known as docdave === james_ is now known as Tundra-Alive === Tundra-Alive is now known as HiddenTundra === james is now known as HiddenTundra === foobar_ is now known as [foo]bar === foobar_ is now known as [foo]bar
