rardiol1I'm running the live usb 17.04 and I can't connect to wifi with a uss wifi connector. The connector works on another linux system. I select the network, put in the password, and it just works for a few seconds and then stops and says i'm disconnected. The rt2800usb driver is loaded. I just tried the 16.04 live and it worked. any idea why?00:30
foxjazzhi, just installed video drivers and I get /dev/sda1 clean, #/# files #/# blocks15:16
foxjazzany idea what to do?15:16

foxjazzGridCube: Hey so I had it working on linux server. so installed this20:21
foxjazzproblem comes when I add a second card, the ethernet port is no longer available20:22
GridCubethat sound very weird20:22
foxjazzyes, so I have got a usb to ethernet adapter20:23
foxjazzand before I put the second card in, I want to get it working20:23
foxjazzit's a Trendnet adapter20:23
GridCubesecond card of what?20:23
foxjazzthe second video card20:23
GridCubeoh, you want to have both running at the same time?20:24
GridCubei don't know how you can do that20:24
foxjazzwell. I just need one20:24
foxjazzand since the second video card will break the on board adapter, it would be good to get this other one to work20:25
foxjazzwhen I installed xubuntu, it auto installed the usb adapter20:25
foxjazzwith no issues20:25
GridCubeas i said before the best thing i can come with is deleting the Xorg.conf file20:25
GridCubeso you get reverted to the default drivers20:26
GridCubeand that should work20:26
foxjazzI have linux server booted and running20:26
foxjazzwhat is xorg.conf delete going to do?20:26
GridCubemake the system use generic drivers that where working before you installed the privative ones20:26
foxjazzI have the video drivers installed and working under linux server20:26
GridCubeoh20:26
GridCubei don't understand the problem then20:27
foxjazzmy current problem is this. when I add the second video card, it will make the ether net adapter stop working20:27
GridCubeoh20:27
foxjazzI have a usb adapter20:27
GridCuberight20:27
foxjazzif I can get that working before adding the card, then at least I have comms20:28
GridCubedoes the card show up with lspci?20:28
foxjazzlspi no command found20:29
foxjazzoo20:29
GridCubelspci20:29
foxjazzlooking20:29
foxjazzi don't see it20:30
GridCubeI'll bet then you have a hardware problem20:31
GridCubetry removing the card and placing it again, or changing the slot is using20:31
foxjazzwell ok, if it's hardware why was it working with xubuntu?20:31
foxjazzok20:31
foxjazzsure20:31
GridCubebecause it might have moved when you added the vga20:31
foxjazzlsusb it sees it20:32
GridCubelsusb sees the usb one20:32
foxjazzyes20:33
GridCubethats not the one you want20:33
foxjazzI haven't added the second card just yet20:33
foxjazzI think when I add the card it will break ethernet20:33
* GridCube facepalms20:33
foxjazzso I need to get the usb ethernet adapter working20:33
GridCubeit should just work20:34
foxjazzifconfig doesn't have it listed20:34
GridCubeI don't know how else to help you20:34
GridCubefoxjazz, https://www.linux.com/answers/how-do-i-setup-network-card-if-linux-cannot-see-it20:35
foxjazzok.. tx for the time20:36
GridCubeI think you need to work on a problem at a time, if you want to have the ethernet pci card working or the usb one20:37
GridCubeif the pci one doesnt work, try changing it's port20:37
GridCubemaybe the mobo has problems with many cards at the same time?20:38
GridCubemaybe the vga card is pushing the ethernet card and making it disconnect from the pins?20:38
foxjazzhmmm interesting20:58
foxjazzsince I couldn't add the usb ethernet, I am trying the xubuntu install one more time, if that doesn't work on installing the vid drivers, I am just going to get another license for windows.20:59
foxjazzwhen installing -y why does it say invalid operation -y it just means yes right?21:18
foxjazzGridCube: how do I remove xorg.conf on boot21:21
GridCubeif you can get to a tty go to /etc/X11/ and inside of it it should be there, if you dn't have one then you are already using the generic drivers21:26
foxjazzhow do I get to a tty21:26
foxjazzit just comes up with that clean entry and doesn't do anything else21:27
foxjazzhuh, should I try oem install?21:28
foxjazzI tried debian last night, and well there was no su, debian is screwed up.21:29
foxjazzinstalled oem21:49
foxjazzinstead of updating distro, going to just install the driver and reboot.21:50
foxjazzfingers crossed21:50
foxjazzwow it's doing nothing21:53
foxjazznada21:55
foxjazzgonna try one more thing21:55
foxjazzthis is like the 5th time I have done an install or 7 this weekend... getting old22:04
foxjazzwell linux is officially !@#$22:31
foxjazzwindows here I come... LOL22:31
foxjazzyou would a thought after all this time, they would build a better linux.  I am just going to virutalize a linux server under windows22:36
