[00:30] I'm running the live usb 17.04 and I can't connect to wifi with a uss wifi connector. The connector works on another linux system. I select the network, put in the password, and it just works for a few seconds and then stops and says i'm disconnected. The rt2800usb driver is loaded. I just tried the 16.04 live and it worked. any idea why? [15:16] hi, just installed video drivers and I get /dev/sda1 clean, #/# files #/# blocks [15:16] any idea what to do? === ZongvaX is now known as Zongva [18:22] hello? [19:21] trid installing radeon driver for linux, after reboot it fails to boot. [19:24] foxjazz, go to a tty and try reinstalling, else just remove xorg.conf [20:09] <_BIGSHOT_> http://blog.crsantos.info/2015/01/25/apple-remote-a1156-intel-nuc-kodibuntu-14-helix-ir-keytables/ [20:10] <_BIGSHOT_> $ sudo vimĀ /etc/init.d/make-ir-work <-- will this work on 16.04? [20:10] <_BIGSHOT_> what do i have to use instead of init.d? [20:11] _BIGSHOT_: the init now is systemd [20:13] <_BIGSHOT_> well_laid_lawn, can you turn this script into systemd script? https://paste.ubuntu.com/25610043/ [20:13] not at the moment [20:14] <_BIGSHOT_> aww man it's only 2 to 3 lines [20:14] if it's only 2 to 3 lines, why don't you do it yourself? (: [20:15] or in other words, line count doesn't tell the whole story [20:15] <_BIGSHOT_> knome, can you write it out? [20:15] <_BIGSHOT_> there are lots of echo in it [20:15] <_BIGSHOT_> systemd won't be too big [20:15] <_BIGSHOT_> script i.e. [20:16] please [20:16] <_BIGSHOT_> huh? no man you don't need to show courtesy [20:19] hi [20:19] <_BIGSHOT_> line 1: modprobe -r nuvoton_cir line 2: sleep 1 line 3: sys/bus/acpi/devices/ITE8713:00/physical_node/resources line 5: ir-keytable -p NEC,RC6 -w /etc/rc_keymaps/apple_remote [20:19] i want know how much ram will need xubuntu (32bit) [20:19] <_BIGSHOT_> only 4 commands are there [20:19] i just need xubuntu with networkmanager (no more) [20:19] using ubuntu how do you install trendnet ethernet adapter [20:19] usb [20:19] <_BIGSHOT_> testerbeta, i guess 1GB is more than enough [20:19] testerbeta, try checking https://xubuntu.org/getxubuntu/requirements/ [20:20] _BIGSHOT_, please do not tell everybody on the channel your problem is "just 4 commands"; everybody here is volunteer and if they can help, they most likely will [20:21] <_BIGSHOT_> knome, relax bud, here have some soda [20:21] * _BIGSHOT_ give knome soda [20:21] <_BIGSHOT_> gives* [20:21] GridCube: Hey so I had it working on linux server. so installed this [20:22] problem comes when I add a second card, the ethernet port is no longer available [20:22] that sound very weird [20:23] yes, so I have got a usb to ethernet adapter [20:23] and before I put the second card in, I want to get it working [20:23] it's a Trendnet adapter [20:23] second card of what? [20:23] the second video card [20:24] oh, you want to have both running at the same time? [20:24] i don't know how you can do that [20:24] well. I just need one [20:25] and since the second video card will break the on board adapter, it would be good to get this other one to work [20:25] when I installed xubuntu, it auto installed the usb adapter [20:25] with no issues [20:25] as i said before the best thing i can come with is deleting the Xorg.conf file [20:26] so you get reverted to the default drivers [20:26] and that should work [20:26] I have linux server booted and running [20:26] what is xorg.conf delete going to do? [20:26] make the system use generic drivers that where working before you installed the privative ones [20:26] I have the video drivers installed and working under linux server [20:26] oh [20:27] i don't understand the problem then [20:27] my current problem is this. when I add the second video card, it will make the ether net adapter stop working [20:27] oh [20:27] I have a usb adapter [20:27] right [20:28] if I can get that working before adding the card, then at least I have comms [20:28] does the card show up with lspci? [20:29] lspi no command found [20:29] oo [20:29] lspci [20:29] looking [20:30] i don't see it [20:31] I'll bet then you have a hardware problem [20:31] try removing the card and placing it again, or changing the slot is using [20:31] well ok, if it's hardware why was it working with xubuntu? [20:31] ok [20:31] sure [20:31] because it might have moved when you added the vga [20:32] lsusb it sees it [20:32] lsusb sees the usb one [20:33] yes [20:33] thats not the one you want [20:33] I haven't added the second card just yet [20:33] I think when I add the card it will break ethernet [20:33] * GridCube facepalms [20:33] so I need to get the usb ethernet adapter working [20:34] it should just work [20:34] ifconfig doesn't have it listed [20:34] I don't know how else to help you [20:35] foxjazz, https://www.linux.com/answers/how-do-i-setup-network-card-if-linux-cannot-see-it [20:36] ok.. tx for the time [20:37] I think you need to work on a problem at a time, if you want to have the ethernet pci card working or the usb one [20:37] if the pci one doesnt work, try changing it's port [20:38] maybe the mobo has problems with many cards at the same time? [20:38] maybe the vga card is pushing the ethernet card and making it disconnect from the pins? [20:58] hmmm interesting [20:59] since I couldn't add the usb ethernet, I am trying the xubuntu install one more time, if that doesn't work on installing the vid drivers, I am just going to get another license for windows. [21:18] when installing -y why does it say invalid operation -y it just means yes right? [21:21] GridCube: how do I remove xorg.conf on boot [21:26] if you can get to a tty go to /etc/X11/ and inside of it it should be there, if you dn't have one then you are already using the generic drivers [21:26] how do I get to a tty [21:27] it just comes up with that clean entry and doesn't do anything else [21:28] huh, should I try oem install? [21:29] I tried debian last night, and well there was no su, debian is screwed up. [21:49] installed oem [21:50] instead of updating distro, going to just install the driver and reboot. [21:50] fingers crossed [21:53] wow it's doing nothing [21:55] nada [21:55] gonna try one more thing [22:04] this is like the 5th time I have done an install or 7 this weekend... getting old [22:31] well linux is officially !@#$ [22:31] windows here I come... LOL [22:36] you would a thought after all this time, they would build a better linux. I am just going to virutalize a linux server under windows === feodoran is now known as Guest8834 === feodoran_ is now known as feodoran
