naccflocculant: funny17:52
=== JanC_ is now known as JanC
flocculantnacc: I did actually boot a few day old iso - and see what that said, just got the expected Ubuntu Base for the updates you were showing17:59
flocculantbut I do run Xubuntu18:00
naccflocculant: hrm, interesting18:01
flocculantI obviously had more in the list than you - extra stuff since iso needed more updating18:03

scootergrisenAre GNOME used in the files on http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ ?19:52
scootergrisenI want to test translations in GNOME19:52
scootergrisenHow do i find this link http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ through the ubuntu.com website?19:54
scootergrisenIf i try to start ubuntu GNOME and select danish language during boot when GNOME starts not everything is translated. What could the reason be?20:21
valoriescootergrisen: file a bug please if you are using the latest20:24
valoriealthough that is probably a GNOME bug20:24
valorieerrr, maybe20:24
valorieI know that in KDE we have our own wonderful team of translators20:24
scootergrisenCould to little memory do it?20:24
valorieunsure how the gnomish translations are handled20:25
valorieno20:25
valoriethere is a package, and if not all strings are translated, you get what's there20:25
valorieso if you have *any* translations, the packaging is correct20:25
valorieif you have incomplete translations, it is either the Ubuntu translation team didn't get it all done, or the GNOME team -- and I don't know how that works20:26
nacchttps://l10n.gnome.org/teams/da/20:26
scootergrisenGNOME is translated to danish, but for som reason not used in ubuntu live if i select danish during boot... in the one on http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/20:26
naccupstream implies that it's pretty well translated20:26
scootergrisenIn GNOME settings for some reason language is set to english... even though i selected danish during boot20:29
scootergrisenMaybe danish is not included in the ISO but have to be downloaded?20:30
naccis language-pack-gnome-da installed?20:30
scootergrisenI guess its this https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-meta/+bug/1671395 so i guess only en, es, zh (simplified), pt, de, fr, it, ru is in live20:33
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1671395 in ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) "Danish translation missing in ISO files" [Undecided,New]20:33
valorienacc: please report that on the qatracker20:34
valorietoday is the day to get the final beta all ship-shape20:34
naccvalorie: the amazon thing i saw today? will do20:34
* genii makes more coffee20:34
valorieamazon thing?20:34
naccvalorie: which thing did you want me to report?20:34
scootergriseni dont know what qatracker is20:35
valoriehttp://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/382/builds/157664/testcases20:35
valorie!20:35
valoriewhy are you running Artful if you aren't reporting bugs?20:35
naccvalorie: https://imgur.com/a/n4EIw20:35
naccheh20:35
valorieseriously, that's what this chan is for20:35
valoriedeveloping the next release20:35
naccvalorie: I agree20:35
valorieI have no clue what that is, and Kubuntu doesn't supply it20:36
scootergrisenDid you want me to report that on qatracker?20:36
valoriethe amazon thing20:36
naccvalorie: yep, neither do I  -- wasn't sure what you wanted me to report, as I was just trying to help scootergrisen 20:36
valorieI want you to report the incomplete translations20:36
naccscootergrisen: fyi, there is LP: #152027820:36
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1520278 in Ubuntu Seeds "Default languages strategy for Ubuntu desktop CD" [Undecided,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/152027820:36
valoriesorry, mixed up issues20:37
naccwhich implies danish is not intended to be translated on live20:37
naccvalorie: np20:37
valorieif you have completed any of the mandatory tests, please help out us release managers and report your results20:37
naccscootergrisen: seems like you are aware of the bugs (and have gotten responses in a few of them)20:38
valoriewe all want to mark our final Beta images as ready to rock ASAP20:38
scootergrisennacc: What have i forgotten to respond to?20:39
scootergrisenIt just seems strange that if i boot live and select danish language i get a mixed experience with part in danish and part in english20:40
naccscootergrisen: I don't believe I used the word forgot?20:40
scootergrisennacc ok i read forgotten20:41
valoriescootergrisen: you can still respond to that bug report 20:41
valorieand then link that on the qatracker20:41
scootergrisenYeah i was just thinking it would be diffent when ubuntu switched to GNOME for some reason20:41
valorieit will show up as a test result and one of those little fly icons20:41
scootergrisenLike maybe danish would be included20:41
valorieif you respond to the BR maybe they will change their minds20:42
valorieI assume they decide what to include by balancing space on the ISO with number of users needing each translation package20:43
flocculantscootergrisen: you already reported similar in March ... bug 167139520:43
ubottubug 1671395 in ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) "Danish translation missing in ISO files" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/167139520:43
scootergrisenYeah20:43
scootergrisenWhat is the side bar on the left called?20:58
scootergrisenThe one with the app icons20:58
SpmPvalorie: is http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/382/builds just for installer bugs? Installation went well, it is the post install oddnesses and Unity -> gnome3 experience oddities that I want to report on.20:59
valorieSpmP: it is about the state of the final Beta ISO 21:06
valorieinstaller through use of everything on the ISO21:07
valorieexclude bugs on anything you install on the qatracker21:07
valorieerr, on the qatracker, don't include bugs on anything you install yourself after the initial installation21:08
SpmPvalorie: Cheers, understood.21:12
SpmPActually, not well understood. If I want to submit questions/requests/bugs, where do I do this? All I see is test submissions. SHould I just file bugs as normal with an 'artful' tag. What product or package is the user experience?22:04
valorieSpmP: be more specific22:20
valorielaunchpad is where you file bugs22:20
valoriethe easy way is via the cli -- `ubuntu-bug packagename`22:21
valorieso we'll have to help you figure out the packagename22:21
valoriethere is no product or package for "user experience"22:21
SpmPvalorie: OK, going from 17.04 to 17.10 is quite a transistion in user experience. I would like to raise issues such as - its hard/impossible to find screen lock settings, the top right indicators are ugly and reduce useability, there should be an option to move the four dots on the dock to the top, usb drives etc do not appear in the dock, full screen window bars are ugly and should be integrated in the top bar etc. 17.04 looks slick23:06
SpmPEspecially if you consider the upgrade that I am doing: my mother, more set in their ways etc, and no energy to fight gnome-control-center to get to the relevant things. Its very sparce in there.23:07
SpmPOh and auto login is not working, despite the relevant configs being set in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf23:08
valorieSpmP: unless someone who knows the gnomy packagenames speaks up for you, you might have to ask in #ubuntu-devel23:09
valoriealthough #ubuntu might know23:09
SpmPOK, so thats not the role of this group?23:10
valoriemaybe, but perhaps the folks who know are asleep/afk etc.23:11
valorieI'm a kubuntu person and do not know anything about gnome or unity23:12
naccSpmP: mean, you made your mother run 17.04??23:12
* nacc would never consider making family run non-LTS :)23:12
* valorie is a grandma and not very set in my ways23:12
valorieSpmP: did you try installing unity-desktop or whatever they call it now instead of tackling all of the gnomy changes?23:43
