=== JanC is now known as Guest58454 === JanC_ is now known as JanC [06:25] good morning [06:52] Mornings. [08:02] hai [08:07] hey hey Laney! [08:09] morning [08:12] morning willcooke [08:31] hi didrocks [08:31] get back ok? [08:35] yeah, the delay of the first flight was short enough to not impact the second flight [08:35] and you? [08:41] pretty straightforward, was home for lunch [08:41] still jet lagging a bit i think [08:42] heh, same here [08:43] Slept til 11 yesterday [08:43] oops [08:43] Martin being sick, so waking up early and needing attention yesterday evening and this morning [08:43] /o\ [08:46] morning willcooke, how is NY this autumn? [08:46] hey koza, hot, smelly, noisy, fun - in that order [08:46] :) [08:46] same as SF then [08:48] willcooke, anythin interesting happened in terms of desktop, bt, snaps vs deb, etc...? should we sync or something? [08:49] koza, Happy to sync up, not much to report though [08:51] willcooke, as ok, so maybe on regular bt weekly then [08:54] koza, +1 [09:56] Laney: my workaround for gdm doesn't seem to be needed any more with the 384 nvidia series (which I haven't uploaded yet) [10:07] tseliot: nice, what changed? [10:08] Laney: honesty, I have no idea. A bug somewhere in the 375 series, I suppose [10:08] Laney: I haven't tested the latest 384 driver, but I'll let you know [10:13] tseliot: I thought it was intentional/known to not work until something or other was fixed in mutter/the driver [10:14] or maybe just the wayland part but the X-broken-on-wayland part was always a bug? [10:14] Laney: (luckily) there was a miscommunication problem. [10:14] so............ can we enable KMS by default for nvidia then? [10:16] Laney: probably. I need to check if/why is still disabled by default [10:18] cool [10:18] maybe that part is a next cycle thing [10:55] yep [11:59] In 17.10 - I previously installed gnome-session - but i just tried removing/purging it, but it still shows up in gdm cog menu. Is there some package I have missed removing? [12:02] have you rebooted in between? [12:02] yes [12:05] I have "GNOME Classic", "Ubuntu" and "Ubuntu on Xorg" as options, to be clear [12:06] gnome-session-fallback ? [12:07] you mean gnome-session-flashback? That's also uninstalled [12:07] what does dpkg -S /usr/share/xsessions give? [12:08] ubuntu-session, gnome-shell-extensions: /usr/share/xsessions [12:09] gnome-shell-extensions provides classic [12:09] iirc [12:10] yep [12:10] looks that way, thanks :) [12:30] Think I have a bug in the display prefs. I searched launchpad bugs for "display" and got nothing which is a bit unexpected. Is there a knack to searching launchpad? [12:31] FYI, The bug is, goto prefs->devices->display. Change the scale to 200% (I don't get a prompt to apply changes). Change back to 100% and now it gives me an "apply" prompt. [12:31] it's in gnome-control-center [12:32] if you want to report a bug against it :) [12:32] upstream then? [12:33] yeah, that part is upstream AFAIK, so bugzilla would be good [13:05] popey: sorry that the GNOME Classic package name isn't obvious. I don't know how to fix that without causing problems for people upgrading who do use Classic [13:06] No worries :) [13:50] A wild popey appears... [13:51] just had a thought about it, we can fix the name and preserve people upgrading [13:51] adding a recommends from g-s-extenstions on a new gnome-classic package (from the same source) [13:51] and g-c which deps on g-s-extensions [13:51] let's do that next cycle [13:59] ok [14:45] didrocks: do you want to try demoting xterm? LP: #1720482 [14:45] Launchpad bug 1720482 in xterm (Ubuntu) "Demote xterm to universe" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1720482 [14:48] jbicha: they are a lot of rdepends, did you check all them are in universe? [14:49] seems so from the bug report [14:49] didrocks: I believe that's in the bug report [14:50] xterm doesn't show up on component-mismatches but I think it's worth trying [14:50] yeah, with the g-t provides, that should be ok [14:51] there's a chance that this could cause gnome-terminal to be included in an image when it wasn't before [14:51] done [14:51] yeah [14:51] depending on the way germinate treat that [14:51] if we don't have other providers [14:51] unless we want to wait until 18.04? [14:51] compare seeded-in-ubuntu today with tomorrow [14:51] let's give it a try, it's easy to fix [14:52] yep [14:52] jbicha: you agree having a look tomorrow? ^ [14:52] yes [14:52] (can do a quick look as well, but better to be 2 to remember ;)) [14:52] cheers [15:19] good morning! [15:19] hey andyrock [15:25] hey andyrock! [15:26] hey didrocks willcooke ! === qengho is now known as qenghoafk === qenghoafk is now known as qengho [16:43] andyrock: hi, could you leave a comment when you close a bug as Opinion like LP: #1720736 ? I think it's more polite [16:43] Launchpad bug 1720736 in gnome-shell (Ubuntu) "Consider changing "Activities" text to Ubuntu icon image by default for brand recognition" [Undecided,Opinion] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1720736 [16:44] jbicha: marking as opinion is not closing [16:44] yes it is [16:44] mmm [16:45] it no longer shows up in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bugs?orderby=-id&start=0 [16:46] ok I opened up it again [16:46] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Bug%20statuses [16:46] Opinion might be correct here. [16:46] thanks for clarification [16:47] There's lots of GNOME documentation that refers to the Activities Overview which won't make sense if the button isn't named Activities [17:21] willcooke: can LP: #1717309 be closed now?
