TommehAhoy13:54
TommehI was wondering why, at some point last week, autoremove marked 'gnome-themes-standard' as fit for removal, but not 'gnome-themes-standard-data'. Without the former package, GTK2 support under Adwaita seemingly broke.13:55
TommehOther themes were OK.13:55
TommehIt only manifested in one of my applications; hexchat.13:56
Tommeh(I'm running 17.10 Artful beta, upgrading most days.)13:56
jbichaTommeh: yes, I'm going to have gnome-session recommend gnome-themes-standard later this week so I think that will fix that issue13:58
Tommehjbicha: ah, glad I'm not the only one. :)13:59
TommehA few more packages went with it, though as far as I can tell haven't caused me any grief (yet)14:00
TommehWell, I should say 'a few more gnome-* packages went with gnome-themes-standard: gnome-photos, gnome-music, gnome-initial-setup, gnome-characters14:01
jbichahmm, ok welcome to Ubuntu 17.1014:03
jbichado you still have gnome-session installed?14:03
TommehYes14:04
TommehIf the others aren't used any more, that's fine :)14:04
* Tommeh was just aiming to avoid any more brokeneness 14:04
jbichathose other packages are stuff that Ubuntu GNOME used to install by default but Ubuntu 17.10 doesn't14:05
jbichayou can still install them if you like them14:05
TommehI must've missed something political - is Ubuntu GNOME now officially just "Ubuntu 17.10 w/ Gnome" in light of the 18.04 shift to gnome-shell?14:07
jbichayes, we should probably make an updated announcement14:09
jbichahttps://ubuntugnome.org/ubuntu-gnome-17-04-released/14:09
jbichathere's a vanilla-gnome-desktop package available now if you want something like the old Ubuntu GNOME but we do not plan to make ISOs for it14:10
TommehAhh14:12
TommehI had read this, but must've skimmed over the bit about 17.10 being the shift point for non-LTS14:12
TommehMy bad. I'm happy to stick with the mainstream - I was really only using Ubuntu Gnome because installing gnome-shell alongside regular Ubuntu was *terrible*14:13
jbichawe were a bit late with doing the switch this cycle14:14
jbichabut we figured that most people would rather have the supported Ubuntu now and we made a metapackage for those who don't14:14
jbichabut even installing gnome-session and logging in to GNOME works well too14:14
TommehI can imagine it does now. Well, unless you use Adwaita & HexChat :D14:19
Tommeh(Until that recommends bit is fixedup)14:20
TommehWell anyway, keep up the good work, and thanks for all of your efforts - I'll leave you in peace :)14:36
muellihrm. I'm running the live CD but I can't do much with it, because /cow is running out of space very quickly. Can I somehow assign more space to /cow?19:13
jbichamuelli: there's a tool called mkusb that could help you make a live USB have persistent storage so that's there more space available20:24
jbicha(Ubuntu's live images are designed as a demo and installer, not long-term use)20:25
jbichamkusb isn't in Ubuntu, you have to get it from a PPA20:27
muellihrm.  yeah, I'm trying to use the live cd as a demo for my app.  But installing it seems to involve too many dependencies to fill the overlayfs :-\20:40
