bryanfrommacauhi!00:46
bryanfrommacauI want to change the permissions of a folder under /home/user/.local/share/00:47
bryanfrommacaubut I can't figure out how to do that00:47
bryanfrommacauI get "operation not permitted"00:47
mr-daywhat actually you want to try00:56
mr-dayisnt you can do with sudo00:56
bryanfrommacauI have a lot of files that I want to move around and wanted to use the gui01:02
bryanfrommacausomeone told me to try gksu, and that is working01:02
bryanfrommacauthanks! :)01:03
mr-dayowh ok, but i think gksu not installed by default on lubuntu01:05
mr-dayi mean you can did it on your lubuntu by sudo pcmanfm01:06
krytarikI wouldn't - just install it.01:07
krytarik!sudo01:08
ubottusudo is a command to run command-line programs with superuser privileges ("root") (also see !cli). Look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo for more information. For graphical applications see !pkexec (for older releases: !gksu and !kdesudo). If you're unable to execute commands with sudo see: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/fixsudo01:08
jac76I have installed lubuntu on an old small laptop and so far I've worked through every problem I came across, even the WiFi one, but I am stuck on the task bar "indicator applet" pop up window closing a half second after I open it.  There has to be a time parameter some where but I can't find it.01:11
jac76Any body have a pointer on how to keep that popup from closing so fast?01:14
bryanfrommacauok, so pkexec is better for lubuntu than gksu?01:15
krytarikbryanfrommacau: Generally preferred, yes - but there is no policy file shipped for PCManFM yet.01:16
bryanfrommacauok, got it, thanks :)01:16
jac76Ah!  It has to do with the 'autohide' option for the task bar.  If I turn autohide off, the  popup window for "indicator applets" icon stays around.  But if 'autohide' is turned on, the popup goes away as soon as the taskbar hides.01:30
jac76That seems like a little bit of a bug as I don't think the taskbar should autohide while that popup window is active.01:47
bryanfrommacauhi, my computer used to automatically mount the other partitions on my computer (such as the "D drive"), but now it is no longer doing so01:49
bryanfrommacauHow can I re mount?01:49
bryanfrommacauSorry, I know I ask a lot of questions, google is blocked where I am01:49
tsimonq2bryanfrommacau: Try editing /etc/fstab :)01:49
tsimonq2That should get you in the right direction.01:50
jac76Bryanfrommacau: I suppose the question should be asked, will that drive mount for you at all?01:52
tsimonq2That's a good point as well.01:52
jac76If not, the drive could have failed01:53
bryanfrommacauhow do I check?01:53
mr-dayubottu: yup, so is execute it by sudo wrong even it work? xD01:54
Unit193ubottu: is a bot01:54
ubottuYes, I can confirm that I am a bot. For more information, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/Bots01:54
jac76Well, you can start by checking the /etc/fstab file to see if a mount entry for that device does exist.01:55
jac76if it does, then try to mount it manually with the "mount" command like "mount -a"01:55
bryanfrommacauit's almost empty01:56
bryanfrommacauUUID=018345fd-f3ac-4d11-a52d-f0627e029792 /               ext4    errors=remoun$01:56
jac76That's the only line in the fstab file?01:57
bryanfrommacauand a line about the swap partition01:58
jac76So, there are just 2 lines total in /etc/fstab?  No comment lines?01:59
bryanfrommacauoh I'm having trouble pasting it because of the slash01:59
bryanfrommacauthat's right02:00
bryanfrommacaubut I was able to mount the partition manually02:00
bryanfrommacausudo mount -t auto -v /dev/sda3 /mnt02:00
bryanfrommacauAlthough that's not where I wanted it....oops02:01
bryanfrommacauI was able to mount it using sudo mount -t auto -v /dev/sda3 /media/bryan/D/02:03
bryanfrommacauafter using mkdir02:04
bryanfrommacaubut I don't know anything about the fstab file02:04
mr-daylol02:05
jac76man 5 fstab02:05
bryanfrommacausorry, I don't know a lot about this kind of thing....figuring it out as I go02:05
mr-daythanks fyi Unit19302:05
jac76man 8 mount02:06
jac76man 8 e2label02:07
jac76you should be able to use "e2label" to find the UUID for the disk your trying to mount and use it in the fstab file like the entry "/"02:08
jac76OH,  And if you need to find what drives exist on your system try "sudo lshw -clsss disk"02:15
jac76OOPS "e2label" wont get you the UUID, check out "man 8 tune2fs"02:27
jac76I'm trying to upgrade to 17.10 from 17.04 as a step in resolving a screen resolution problem.  However, a confirmation screen, part of the upgrade process, is so large that it does not fit with in the display size.  I can not see what button or response I am intended to give to get the upgrade to proceed.03:56
jac76anybody have a hint as to how to get around this problem?03:58
