[00:25] what is alternate version of Lubuntu [00:27] alternate? [00:27] i used zesty u.u [00:27] alma_: it's a non-gui installer [00:28] ok :-), thaknks wxl. [00:28] np [00:29] oh mr-day irc.mozilla.org #firefox [00:29] nah okk thankss wxl like always xD [00:30] .-) [00:30] btw is it save to upgrade my zesty to 17.10 bec i had previous configuration on my older like mysql and any other [00:31] sure. it'll warn you. [00:32] oh ok, bec i ever upgrade my ubuntu, and after finished, mysql error and some configuration missing... [00:32] well, to be fair, i usually upgrade with `do-release-upgrade` and i've always got the warnings [00:34] warnings? [00:38] i can't find an example, but try it and you'll see [00:38] anyways, i'm outta here [00:39] ah ok txs, cya wxl [00:46] hi! [00:47] I want to change the permissions of a folder under /home/user/.local/share/ [00:47] but I can't figure out how to do that [00:47] I get "operation not permitted" [00:56] what actually you want to try [00:56] isnt you can do with sudo [01:02] I have a lot of files that I want to move around and wanted to use the gui [01:02] someone told me to try gksu, and that is working [01:03] thanks! :) [01:05] owh ok, but i think gksu not installed by default on lubuntu [01:06] i mean you can did it on your lubuntu by sudo pcmanfm [01:07] I wouldn't - just install it. [01:08] !sudo [01:08] sudo is a command to run command-line programs with superuser privileges ("root") (also see !cli). Look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo for more information. For graphical applications see !pkexec (for older releases: !gksu and !kdesudo). If you're unable to execute commands with sudo see: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/fixsudo [01:11] I have installed lubuntu on an old small laptop and so far I've worked through every problem I came across, even the WiFi one, but I am stuck on the task bar "indicator applet" pop up window closing a half second after I open it. There has to be a time parameter some where but I can't find it. [01:14] Any body have a pointer on how to keep that popup from closing so fast? [01:15] ok, so pkexec is better for lubuntu than gksu? [01:16] bryanfrommacau: Generally preferred, yes - but there is no policy file shipped for PCManFM yet. [01:16] ok, got it, thanks :) [01:30] Ah! It has to do with the 'autohide' option for the task bar. If I turn autohide off, the popup window for "indicator applets" icon stays around. But if 'autohide' is turned on, the popup goes away as soon as the taskbar hides. [01:47] That seems like a little bit of a bug as I don't think the taskbar should autohide while that popup window is active. [01:49] hi, my computer used to automatically mount the other partitions on my computer (such as the "D drive"), but now it is no longer doing so [01:49] How can I re mount? [01:49] Sorry, I know I ask a lot of questions, google is blocked where I am [01:49] bryanfrommacau: Try editing /etc/fstab :) [01:50] That should get you in the right direction. [01:52] Bryanfrommacau: I suppose the question should be asked, will that drive mount for you at all? [01:52] That's a good point as well. [01:53] If not, the drive could have failed [01:53] how do I check? [01:54] ubottu: yup, so is execute it by sudo wrong even it work? xD [01:54] ubottu: is a bot [01:54] Yes, I can confirm that I am a bot. For more information, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/Bots [01:55] Well, you can start by checking the /etc/fstab file to see if a mount entry for that device does exist. [01:55] if it does, then try to mount it manually with the "mount" command like "mount -a" [01:56] it's almost empty [01:56] UUID=018345fd-f3ac-4d11-a52d-f0627e029792 / ext4 errors=remoun$ [01:57] That's the only line in the fstab file? [01:58] and a line about the swap partition [01:59] So, there are just 2 lines total in /etc/fstab? No comment lines? [01:59] oh I'm having trouble pasting it because of the slash [02:00] that's right [02:00] but I was able to mount the partition manually [02:00] sudo mount -t auto -v /dev/sda3 /mnt [02:01] Although that's not where I wanted it....oops [02:03] I was able to mount it using sudo mount -t auto -v /dev/sda3 /media/bryan/D/ [02:04] after using mkdir [02:04] but I don't know anything about the fstab file [02:05] lol [02:05] man 5 fstab [02:05] sorry, I don't know a lot about this kind of thing....figuring it out as I go [02:05] thanks fyi Unit193 [02:06] man 8 mount [02:07] man 8 e2label [02:08] you should be able to use "e2label" to find the UUID for the disk your trying to mount and use it in the fstab file like the entry "/" [02:15] OH, And if you need to find what drives exist on your system try "sudo lshw -clsss disk" [02:27] OOPS "e2label" wont get you the UUID, check out "man 8 tune2fs" [03:56] I'm trying to upgrade to 17.10 from 17.04 as a step in resolving a screen resolution problem. However, a confirmation screen, part of the upgrade process, is so large that it does not fit with in the display size. I can not see what button or response I am intended to give to get the upgrade to proceed. [03:58] anybody have a hint as to how to get around this problem? === Anti-Pizza- is now known as Anti-Pizza [08:38] Hello?
