Riddellacheronuk: KDE is the original and best open source community making software for the end user.  it's the best place for the project to be hosted09:48
acheronukour old bzr branch is behind that, and that KDE version is scarily actually the latest (-l10n changes)09:48
acheronukRiddell: ok, I get the promo message. technical or other reason?09:49
acheronukI don't overly care, but it is an oddity09:50
Riddellbest place to host it, everyone gets commit access, translations come free, gives visability incase others want to see it09:50
acheronukRiddell: ok. that is fair. thanks09:51

acheronukOpinions please? https://phabricator.kde.org/T739416:58
acheronukI think it's high time we cut flash out of that ^^^16:59

mamarley^Something get staged?17:02
acheronukmamarley: nope. just doing a bit of mass wrap-and-sort on the frameworks packaging, but nothing actually new17:03
IrcsomeBot<tsimonq2> Did I hear wrap-and-sort? 😁17:04
mamarleyAh, OK.17:04
MichaelTunnellacheronuk: I dont think eliminating flash while people still use it is a good idea17:18
MichaelTunnellhow is this notification displayed and where is it displayed?17:18

ubottuLaunchpad bug 1725169 in xorg (Ubuntu) "Black Screen after Upgrade from Kubuntu 17.04 to 17.10" [Undecided,Confirmed]17:47
ahoneybunpeople have found a fix in there17:47
acheronukahoneybun: what? at no point on any upgrades I did, did a low latency kernel get installed!17:58
ahoneybunidk if it was there already or what17:58
valoriehmmm, I wonder how I would check to see if that was my problem on my failed install on this laptop's 3rd drive19:15
shadeslayeryofel: happy birthday btw :D19:18
IrcsomeBot<tsimonq2> OMG happy birthday yofel!!!19:18
valorieoooo, happy happy yofel!19:18
acheronukHappy birthday yofel! :)19:20
acheronukhttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/172876019:20
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1728760 in ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) "17.04 to 17.10 dist upgrade automatically switched me to lowlatency kernel" [Undecided,Incomplete]19:20
acheronuknot just kubuntu ^^^^19:20
valoriehuh19:22
acheronukalso https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/172560919:22
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1725609 in ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) "no wifi after upgrading to 17.10" [Undecided,Incomplete]19:22
valoriebut this was a fresh install -- was that lowlatency kernel default?19:22
acheronukvalorie: may not have been your issue19:23
valoriehard to know without poking, which I have not19:23
valorieI switched to testing with my travel laptop instead19:23
valorieseemed one of the few ways to get the final testing on i386 done19:25
valoriewhich is making me lean towards not doing that for the LTS19:25
MichaelTunnelloh in that case, acheronuk yea that is a bit excessive. However, asking once isnt that bad imo20:03
valorieMichaelTunnell: but if you click on something that needs flash, the browser will tell you to install it20:06
valorieIMO that's the important bit - ensuring that that install is successful20:06
valoriebecause IMO they never are20:07
MichaelTunnellthe firefox install doesnt use the package manager irrc and that is why there is a success/failure issue of the flash install.20:11
valoriewell, we used to have a "firefox installer"20:12
valoriedo we still?20:12
valorienot on this laptop but it's not a new install20:12
MichaelTunnellI think it is using the restricted-extras approach20:13
acheronukIt installs just flashplugin-installer20:15
valorieah, yes that's what it was20:25
valorienow if only FF would use that to install flash20:25
acheronukwe would have to run with a patched firefox for KDE. that is too complicated to build, update, maintain, and do proper security due diligence on20:28
valorieagreed20:29
valorieand since flash is supposedly dying....20:30
ronnocacheronuk: How do the Netrunner and Maui peeps handle Flash? They have the "mozilla-kde-support" package, but not sure if it addresses Flash or not. OTPBH it might be good to look at that package for Kubuntu for other headache-y reasons (proper save dialogues, etc.)20:40
acheronukronnoc: yes, but they still need a custom patched firefox build to use it with, IIRC20:48
acheronuk+ no idea about flash on that20:48
acheronuk+ no idea how FF 57 will impact that either20:49
tsimonq2acheronuk: see #ubuntu-release :P20:53
acheronuktsimonq2: I am20:56
acheronukironically, at the moment I'm having to update flash to get into BBB!20:56
acheronukgrrrrrrrrrrrr20:56
geniiGotta love those Catch-22 moments20:58
ronnocacheronuk: yea we'd be reliant on their FF release schedule, but really not being bleeding-edge is OK there. Besides, there's the Mozilla Team PPA for those seeking very latest releases. I tried FF 57 but personally not using Firefox these days for a few reasons. And yes, Flash needs to die a fiery, horrific death. 21:09
