Old_PCDear all, is there ANY possibility to make Lubuntu alternate version installer to count down at the Grub prompt just like the normal installer ? This is so wicked crazy I don't have PS2 adapters for my USB keyboard to my old PC and cannot install Lubuntu on it due to lack of USB support at the language selection. I need to skip that part..16:30
Old_PCThe normal i386 Lubuntu installer does have a countdown. Then it selects English as default, boots, loads USB stack and I could use it - if it would fit onto a CD since this old PC doesn't have a DVD drive.16:31
Old_PCOn the other hand, Lubuntu alternate version - which btw fits onto a CD - doesn't count down so I'm stuck.16:31

tsimonq2Hey hey17:54
Shawn|C2Duoanyone here know a comand in lubuntu that may allow me to see the last most recently deleted file?17:54
Shawn|C2DuoI clicked on a folder to delete, and somehow deleted something else17:54
tsimonq2This might help: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/31883839/how-to-list-recently-deleted-files-from-a-directory#3188466517:55
tsimonq2(gotten from a quick DuckDuckGo ;) )17:55
Shawn|C2Duolsdev is not a command :(18:03
Shawn|C2Duoor lsdel18:03
tsimonq2`sudo apt install procinfo` maybe?18:04
Shawn|C2Duowell, I did not delete from command line18:04
Shawn|C2DuoI used shift-delete18:04
Shawn|C2Duoin the desktop environment18:05
Shawn|C2Duois that page still usefull for me?18:05
tsimonq2Yes18:05
tsimonq2*Theoretically*, they do the same thing.18:06
Shawn|C2Duoohh lsdel is for debugfs18:08
Shawn|C2Duoah18:08
Shawn|C2Duoafter I ran lsdel, it wont let me get command prompt back of debugfs18:09
Shawn|C2Duoit found 2 of my last deleted inodes18:09

csstudentn00bhi, what is the minimum HDD storage requirement for 17.10? I will be installing on Virtualbox. My estimated usage is minimal. Just to do coursework as I am a new Computer Science major18:45
csstudentn00bhi, what is the minimum HDD storage requirement for 17.10? I will be installing on Virtualbox. My estimated usage is minimal. Just to do coursework as I am a new Computer Science major18:48
tsimonq2csstudentn00b: To be safe I'd give it 10 GB, although 8 is probably fine18:48
tsimonq2There's no hard limit -- it all depends on what you do with it.18:48
csstudentn00bi don't know yet. my first piece of coursework requires  me to write some bash shell scripts. so not much at the minute. things might change next semester18:50
tsimonq2Then yeah, 10 GB is what I'd do18:50
csstudentn00bso the standard 1024 ram / 10gb ? i only ask as my virtual will be instaed on my OS SSD and I tend to keep writes / utilization to a minimum to max ssd life (a bit anal)18:51
csstudentn00bi ask because lubuntu no longer list storage requirements18:51
tsimonq2Yep that would work18:52
Shawn|C2Duodies debugfs work on ext4?18:53
Shawn|C2Duo*does18:53
tsimonq2Shawn|C2Duo: I'm not sure, like I said, that was from a quick Google ;)18:53
Shawn|C2Duoah18:55
csstudentn00bhttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu18:56
csstudentn00bi found something. it says min is 3gb and 128mb ram lol18:57
csstudentn00bbut this info is not on lubuntu own website. only on ubuntu wiki18:57
tsimonq2csstudentn00b: Yeah, after a while those requirements have been bumped a bit...18:57
tsimonq2Being on the Lubuntu Release Team, I sort of know offhand ;)18:57
csstudentn00boh that's cool. you actually use lubuntu as daily OS then?19:01
Shawn|C2Duotsimonq2, should I just sign off even looking for the file I accidentally deleted?19:02
bobsmith83question: are both lubuntu sites ligit: lubuntu.me and lubuntu.net? confusiing19:02
tsimonq2csstudentn00b: Yep :)19:03
tsimonq2Shawn|C2Duo: Yeah, idk :/19:03
tsimonq2bobsmith83: Only lubuntu.me19:03
tsimonq2bobsmith83: lubuntu.net is currently being squatted by the founder who won't give it back or give us access.19:03
tsimonq2bobsmith83: We're fighting to get it back but so far that's gotten us nowhere.19:03
bobsmith83ok.  interesting. thx.  I'm going to try lubuntu on a chromebook :)19:05
tsimonq2Cool :D19:05
bobsmith83I wiped my T60 HD and started over with fresh lubuntu install.  I used this for maunal partitioning: https://askubuntu.com/questions/343268/how-to-use-manual-partitioning-during-installation19:07
bobsmith83BUT, having swap as the only primary, and everything else under it seems... weird19:07
bobsmith83swap also got assigned as the boot partition. ... again, weird?19:08
bobsmith83woops, lubuntu dont want to boot on chromebook (samsung 3). gives graphics initialization failed.  error setting up gfxboot.  thought it might have a problem...19:11
bobsmith83galliumOS boots from liveUSB ok, but I dont know the team behind it.  I just know its built from xbuntu...19:14
csstudentn00bmy virtual box installing of lubuntu is hanging on the "prepare to install lubuntu" screen after i tick both boxes and press cotinue?19:21
csstudentn00bi went for 512 ram 8gb in the end. it is currently reading a 64bit iso from my computer hdd (non os HDD), my os is SSD19:22
tsimonq2csstudentn00b: Yeah, that part takes a bit19:23
tsimonq2Otherwise give it more TAM19:23
csstudentn00boh. the youtube vid made it seem instant19:23
tsimonq2Because they either have a fast connection, a nice amount of RAM, or both19:24
csstudentn00bwell what do you know. a new virtual drive with 1024 ram / 10gb is working much faster now and installing19:33
tsimonq2Right, heh :)19:33
csstudentn00byou know i initially tried a 512mb 5gb 32 bit. damn thing wouldn't even run without installing. just broken lines heh19:34
csstudentn00bwhat is default screen rez of the lubuntu system?19:36
tsimonq2It depends on your screen size I guess19:37
csstudentn00bhmm it does have auto. but because i'm running it in virtual mode, there's an additional layer. i've got it to display fine in a 1920x1080 monitor on of my smaller side monitors19:41
csstudentn00bcan't seem to make it run in 21:9 1440p, but i'd never actually use it anyway19:42
csstudentn00bhttps://www.cs.jhu.edu/~joanne/virtualBox.html19:43
csstudentn00bis there any thing under "packages" from there I should install? i'd be mainly using terminal as i'm doing linux homework19:43
csstudentn00boh and it says free space is 6gb / 10gb. so installation is 4gb min i guess19:45
csstudentn00bthanks for your help tsimonq2. gonna go make dinner now19:47
bobsmith83sorry to bug you about partitioning again, tsimonq2, but can you answer my question about how the ubuntu help page has set up the only primary partition as swap, and if there's any problem with that? as well as having the swap also the boot point?19:50
bobsmith83I mean, everything is working just fine, I'm just trying to understand for the next time I manually partition a disk19:50
tsimonq2I have no clue.19:51
tsimonq2wxl?19:51
bobsmith83lol.  fair enough19:51
RainsongHello I have a quick question about program compatibility.  Does python work on Lubuntu?20:54
tsimonq2Yes it does.20:55
RainsongThank you, I'm just starting in programming and linux.  Have a wonderful day.  Thanks!20:55
