patrick__about 2/3 of the time I try to start Steam, instead of directly logging into my account, Steam behaves as if I don't have any ID stored10:46

patrick__only happens since I installed 17.1010:46

waswasichHi, my boot up takes a very long time.17:16
waswasichsystemd-analyzer blame does not show anything interesting17:16
waswasichThe longes thing is NetworkManager-wait-online.service, taking 6 seconds17:16
waswasichThat does not expalin the 7 minute boot time for a fresh install on new hardware17:17
waswasichthe by far biggest "step" in systemd-analyze plot is time-sync.taget, taking serveral minutes17:17
waswasichcan I and should i disable it? Can't I do a ntp-sync (i assume that what it's doing) after boot, or do that non-blocking?17:19
BluesKajwaswasich,  most problems can be traced to incorrect or lack of entries for your drive(s)/partitons in /etc/fstab after a new install17:29
BluesKajslow boot problems that is17:29
waswasichfstab lists a uuid, mount shows /dev/sda2.17:33
waswasichshould i edit that to /dev/disk/by-id/.... ?17:34
BluesKajwaswasich, it's best to to do a sudo blkid in the terminal to determine the uuids for your partitions including swap and list the pertinent entries in /etc/fstab,  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Fstab17:36
BluesKajok, I have to do some errands..bbl17:38
whatafucckwhat is process kded5 for?18:18
whatafucckIt is opening up stuff and asking me for password18:18
whatafucckon second computer, my network card stopped working18:18
whatafucckI think we've been hacked.18:18
whatafucckLike there is a security bug in Bionic but, that's just my akward feeling18:19
BluesKaj your nick isn't suitablke for this chat18:19

KeyKeyDayAnyboddy knows how to turn up ethernet interface?18:22
KeyKeyDayBecause I have only local loopback showed...18:23
KeyKeyDayNot even interface is listed.18:23
KeyKeyDayWhat is kded5 process for?18:23
KeyKeyDayAnd why it wants my root password?18:23
BluesKajKeyKeyDay, run ip link ls18:24
firc6709454I'm back. Have trouble with slow boots. Removed a line in /etc/fstab for encrypted swap that didn't seem to work.18:24
firc6709454It boots much faster now, but still very slow.18:25
firc6709454Oh, I should change my nick18:25
=== firc6709454 is now known as wasweissich
wasweissichWindows, from a harddrive takes less than a minute too boot, Kubuntu from a ssd takes 3.5 minutes18:25
KeyKeyDayThere is ethernet there18:25
BluesKajwasweissich, make sure all partitions have correc uuids listed in /etc/fstab18:26
KeyKeyDayHow do I turn it so it does accepts connections?18:26
KeyKeyDayDon't boot then, just hibernate, loading 400mb of os to ram, should be fast18:27
BluesKajKeyKeyDay,  run sudo dhclient18:27
wasweissichBluesKaj: I think it's all correct, but how do i know if it is?18:27
KeyKeyDayIt's working, but I have no idea , why it turned itself down18:28
KeyKeyDayCould it be missconfiguredd briddge?18:28
BluesKajwasweissich, as I mentioned before run , sudo blkid , it will list the parttions uuids, but don't copy the quotes in your fstab entries18:28
BluesKajto your fstab rather18:29
wasweissichsystemd-anylize plot still shows 170 seconds for time-sync.target18:29
BluesKajwasweissich, that's the time out from searching for uuids etc18:30
KeyKeyDayit may be that time syncync takes too long because it's blocking, and server needs to respond or timeout for continue18:30
KeyKeyDayokej, i got that wrong18:31
wasweissichHere is my fstab. I just commeded out the last line. The rest is from the installer. Looks fine to me?18:33
wasweissichhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/26106592/18:33
BluesKajwasweissich, any outboard usb/sata drives ?18:37
wasweissichNo, no devices attatced, no sticks, no hdds, no nothing18:37
BluesKajwasweissich, have you updated and upgraded since your install?18:38
wasweissichdid just now18:38
wasweissichI'll change to fstab to /dev/sd.. and report back18:41
wasweissichNow my fstab does not use any uuids, it does not boot any faster.18:49
wasweissichbut, now sys-devices-pci0000:00-00..... -sound-card0.device takes forever18:50
BluesKajcheck /var/og/sys/log for any errors that appear to delay boot18:51
BluesKajcorrection: /var/log/syslog18:51
wasweissichNot sure what i should look for. There are plenty ureadahead errors, but they seem normal.18:56
wasweissichsystemd-fstab-generator fails multiple times, too. That looks more interesting to me18:57
BluesKajyeah, unfortunately I'm not real familiar withuEFIboot files etc18:57
wasweissichBluesKaj: Thank you anyway.19:02
wasweissichI don't see anything that looks suspicious19:02
wasweissichwill boot without spalsh, maybe that helps19:03
CrellHello folks. I've an issue with JPG images being read properly. They're all from the same digital camera. When I copy them to my old Kubunut 17.04 laptop, they all open fine.  When I open them on my newer Kubuntu 17.10 laptop, I get an error "Load meta information failed".  Thing is, when I recopied the files SOME of them started working, but not all.  (Trying again didn't seem to help.)  So far google hasn't helped much.  Any suggestions?20:38
CrellI get an error using both firefox and Gwenview to view the files.20:50

jonathan_xIs anyone familiar with (white) artifacts being left behind on the screen in Konsole?21:14
jonathan_xI.e. I am using a black background with grey text. Many times little grey artifacts are left behind (sometimes lines)21:15
jonathan_xClearing the screen doesn't clear it, but overwriting it with new lines does.21:15
mparilloNormally I would guess some kind of graphics driver or setting, especially if strange artifacts occur in multiple applications.21:26
mparilloIf only konsole, then I have no clue.21:26
mparilloAn easy change to make is System Settings > Display and Monitor > Compositor. I have Open GL 2.0 on one laptop, 3.1 on another.21:28
jonathan_xNo only in Konsole21:30
jonathan_xI could check that.21:30
jonathan_xI could find no bug so I thought I'd ask around.21:30
jonathan_xIt is caused by Oxygen font rendering outside of the lines.21:52
