yoothello guys I have installed lubuntu. It's great but wifi doesn't connect. what should I do?09:54
needzahelpPLZanyone on who can help me figure out how to make Xubuntu 16.04 LTS work with HDMI splitter? i have 2 computers connected one is running osx, which works no matter how many times i switch over, and the one running xubuntu says imediately no signal after i switch, also on the same computer if i run it with windows there is no such issue, so its definetely not hardware related, thx for any and all help in advance11:00
ibmr50eYo guys. I'm trying to test lxqt so I downloaded Lubuntu Next 18.04 x86 image and tried to run a Live CD, but everytime I'm asked for a login and a password and neither 'ubuntu' nor 'lubuntu' seem to work. Tested MD5 image and tried on two PCs.11:16
lubot<tsimonq2> @ibmr50e, lubuntu-next12:31
yootHello I've installed Lubuntu 17.10 I can't connect the internet. Why?12:34
hateballyoot: after trying to connect, can you run "dmesg" ?12:38
hateballsee if it complains about something12:38
yootno nothing12:39
yootdoes lubuntu need drivers?12:42
yootIt's a wifi problem. I can see my modem but can't connect.12:43
hateballyoot: well depending on chipset you may need to install additional binary blobs12:43
yootI have MSI MEGABOOK M67012:44
hateballyoot: if you run "ubuntu-drivers devices" is there anything listed there?12:44
hateballyoot: you can usually find your wifi chipset with "lspci -k" or "lsusb" depending what bus it's connected to12:45
yootI'll try.12:47

ibmr50eyo guys21:08
ibmr50ei installed lxqt on top of lubuntu 17.1021:08
ibmr50eand now i have many old lxde gtk apps21:08
ibmr50ehow do i remove them to avoid confusion?21:08
wxlmeaning e.g. lxpanel or meaning, e.g. abiword?21:09
ibmr50eat least those lxpanel things ye21:10
ibmr50ebut abiword is replaced by juffed right?21:10
wxlit could be considered an alternative21:11
wxlbut replacement is a bad word21:12
wxli mean for that matter lxpanel-qt is not a replacement of lxpanel21:12
wxlwhich is why they can both exist21:13
ibmr50eye but i wont be using lxpanel now right cause of the switch21:13
ibmr50eand now i have a mess when running apps from terminal or from menu start21:14
ibmr50ecause theres pcman and pcmanqt you know what im sayin21:14
wxlso you'd need to remove them one by one21:14
ibmr50ewow21:14
ibmr50eokay21:14
ibmr50eso when you guys made lxqt you didnt use any old apps right21:14
ibmr50eeverything new21:14
wxlyou can try to remove lubuntu-core or lubuntu-desktop but there are other things that might cause you difficulty21:14
wxlwe don't make lxqt. lxqt does21:15
ibmr50eye ye21:15
ibmr50eapt-get removing lubuntu core and desktop should be safe ?21:15
ibmr50ecan i apt-get remove lxde too?21:15
wxlwell actually come to think of it, that will just remove the indexes.21:15
wxlyeah, you really should just go line by line through it all21:15
wxlhere's all the important metapackages for you to dig through:21:16
wxlhttps://packages.ubuntu.com/artful/lubuntu-desktop21:16
wxlhttps://packages.ubuntu.com/artful/lubuntu-core21:16
wxlhttps://packages.ubuntu.com/artful/lubuntu-gtk-core21:17
wxlhttps://packages.ubuntu.com/artful/lubuntu-gtk-desktop21:17
ibmr50ethank you21:19
ibmr50edo you remember leafpad alternative? wxl21:21
wxlibmr50e: as i'm sure you know, the lxqt version of lubuntu is not complete, mostly because of not having decided on the apps. you may want to look here http://phab.lubuntu.me/T1421:23
ibmr50ekk imma take a look21:23
ibmr50ewxl what does it mean when someone says about an app that it has 'active' upstream or 'dead' upstream or getting something to work with upstream?21:32
wxlibmr50e: lxde/qt is our major upstream. they do the development. (thus the comment we dont' make lxqt)21:33
wxlibmr50e: dead upstreams are software projects that appear to have no development happening21:33
