=== victor is now known as Guest7041 [12:45] Hello [13:37] hello [13:37] Guest7041, [16:57] hey kanye [16:57] ? [16:59] yo tsimonq2 mtpaint sucks [16:59] remove it from lubuntu [16:59] ...? [17:00] ? [17:00] its not a good app bro [17:00] inintuitive [17:00] and lacks half of options [17:00] and this sylpheed redirects me to japanese website [17:01] That's not my choice [17:01] ye but you have something to say right in future releases [17:01] Right, but LXDE version has been in maintenance mode for a while. [17:02] We are looking to change very little. [17:02] so like 19.10 it could be dropped entirely? [17:02] It all depends [17:02] i tried lubuntu next but it didnt convince me [17:03] there are more gtk apps [17:12] ibmr50e-sylwek: what lightweight app should we replace it with? [17:12] mtpaint? with pinta [17:12] !info pinta [17:13] pinta (source: pinta): Simple drawing/painting program. In component universe, is optional. Version 1.6-2 (artful), package size 674 kB, installed size 2795 kB [17:13] !info mtpaint [17:13] mtpaint (source: mtpaint): painting program to create pixel art and manipulate digital photos. In component universe, is optional. Version 3.40-3 (artful), package size 528 kB, installed size 1798 kB [17:13] it's about double the size [17:13] not sure about memory usage. why don't you do some testing on memory/cpu usage and report back to the lubuntu-devel list? [17:14] ye imma do that [17:14] ewww mono depends boooooo [17:15] i would like you to report how much space it takes up [17:15] installed size doesn't consider all dependencies [17:15] given the mono depends, i'm sure it will be massive [19:14] quit [20:45] I update to 17.10 online but I can't install new programs [20:46] I need a magic command to solve this [20:47] sudo apt upgrade!! [20:50] but I am not superuser in the version 17.10 ¡¡ [20:51] how do you know? [20:52] I enter in Gnome-software to install new software and says 'you are not superuser' [20:52] and does `sudo apt upgrade` work? [20:53] yes, works it but I can't install new software [20:53] so `sudo apt install pastebinit` for example does not work? [20:54] thank you I go to try ... [20:54] Is there anything hinkey about booting Lubuntu to text mode? I tried changing the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT setting from "quiet splash" to "text" in /etc/default/grub, but still landed at a Lubuntu login screen after an update-grub and init 6 [20:54] try to open gnome-software by using sudo with 'sudo gnome-software' and see if you can install software that way as a workaround [20:55] yeah well it's certainly a timesaver [20:55] oops wrong channel [20:56] oh really works ¡¡¡ thank you very much my friends ¡¡¡ === craig__ is now known as craigbass76 [20:59] craigbass76 try uncommenting the "GRUB_TERMINAL=console" line by removing the # before it. [20:59] tegin: I actually just added that line (there wasn't one) and rebooted. Still no love. [21:00] tegin: that was me leaving and coming -- forgot that I should be in irc on my laptop instead of the lubuntu box... [21:00] I'm on 17.10, if that makes a difference [21:01] And I could live with booting into GUI, but it's leaving the world of desktop and becoming just a headless web server [21:02] I don't think I've ever done this on a systemd box before, last one used init [21:03] I'm afraid i don't know much then, all i see is that you need to have a combination of GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="text" and uncommenting the GRUB_TERMINAL line. [21:03] Apologies. [21:04] tegin: no worries. Probably something numb we're both missing. :) [21:05] ah, let me see... [21:05] okay so below "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT" there should be another line "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX". Attempt to comment out the line that has DEFAULT in it and add the "text" part to the "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX" one, if that makes sense. [21:06] tegin: Funny you should mention that... I've just done it. RUbbing my hands together and waiting for a reboot. [21:07] I'm not sure if it makes a difference but the information i'm looking at specifically says to put the "text" part where it says "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="text"" and the part with DEFAULT in it is just commented out. [21:07] Bah... I get all excited because I land at a text login, then after a few seconds get a mouse pointer. :( [21:07] Bummer. [21:07] Apologies again. [21:09] I'll see if anything occurs to me while I'm cooking supper... [21:10] Please take a look at the information provided here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/16371/how-do-i-disable-x-at-boot-time-so-that-the-system-boots-in-text-mode [21:10] They mention something about making some changes to systemd after messing with the grub file. [21:12] Seems like this is a required step for ubuntu 15.04 and later so this might be the missing step, hopefully!
