rud0lfany idea how to troubleshoot thunar taking long time (more that 30~40 seconds) to open sftp://rud0lf@my.shell.server typed in address bar?03:53
rud0lfit doesn't hang thunar window; with ssh, scp and filezilla the connection is instant03:54
rud0lfmaybe the hint would be that smb://some-path-to-windows-pc-resource opens a long time too03:55
rud0lfbut i thought it's other site fault03:55

anarhisthello, after upgrading to 17.10 my scanner doesn't work. it's an HP scanner, i can see it when i do hp-probe, and the simple-scan actually shows it to me when i connect it, but then when i actually press 'Scan' it gives 'Cannot connect to scanner' error08:27
well_laid_lawn!scanner08:33
ubottuScanning software: simple-scan (GNOME), Gwenview (KDE), Xsane. For instructions see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ScanningHowTo and to see supported hardware: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsScanners - See also !OCR08:33

mister_popoflocculant: checked that, but its content is correct since it uses the $HOME variable. and the user's environment does not contain any weird path13:06
mister_popoanyway, i found the culprit13:06
mister_popoit's in ~/.config/gtk-3.0/bookmarks13:06
mister_popooddly enougth, the recursive grep did not find it13:06
mister_popoi had to do some hide and seek game with a new .config folder then add elements one by one13:07
dongyiHello.15:54
dongyiXFCE is not active.15:54
Unit193Why do you say this?15:57
flocculantmister_popo: glad you found the issue16:02
rosesis there a xubuntu chronometer?20:08
knomenot a xubuntu specific one, but i'm sure there is something in the ubuntu repositories that satisfies your needs20:09
voider1Hey, I was trying to install Xubuntu on my PC, but when I want to install I keep getting a black screen with gibberish on it.20:59
voider1Any ideas?21:00
knomegibberish meaning what?21:01
knomeit's not readable at all or it doesn't make sense to you?21:01
voider1It's like text, but dotted and very bold.21:01
voider1knome: Not readable.21:01
knomewhat's the hardware you are using? is it very old or very new?21:01
knomealso which xubuntu version?21:01
voider1Or well, I can kinda read it, but it's hard to.21:01
voider1knome: Pretty new.21:02
voider1knome: I think latest? I just downloaded it from the website.21:02
knomeit might help debugging if you can get any idea what the screen says21:02
voider1I'll send a pic.21:04
voider1knome: https://imgur.com/a/MyVyv21:06
knomehmm.21:07
well_laid_lawnthat pic show kernel output that suggests there is an issue with the opensource module for the nvidia graphics21:09
voider1Oh God.21:09
voider1Is this easily fixable?21:09
voider1I just want to dualboot a Linux distro on my machine...21:10
well_laid_lawnit depends on what the actual issue is and whether you can log in on tty221:10
voider1How would I go about doing the second?21:10
well_laid_lawnctrl+alt+f2 and see if the login prompt appears21:11
voider1Doesn't work, sadly.21:13
well_laid_lawnthe laptop model ?21:14
voider1No laptop.21:14
voider1Custom-built computer.21:14
voider1But I think I won't even bother fixing this.21:14
voider1I've been at for 2 days with other distros.21:15
well_laid_lawnok21:15
voider1But there's no support for my network card.21:15
voider1Thought, maybe Ubuntu-like would have it.21:15
voider1But this is too much trouble to go through imo.21:15
well_laid_lawnyou have to be a little careful when selecting parts for a linux comp21:16
voider1It's a Windows PC, but I want to dualboot Linux because I want a capable OS for developing.21:16
knomethen it's essentially a linux pc as well ;)21:24
