[10:35] nice job Langjan [10:35] i am here [10:35] hi everyone [10:35] oh hi oom Kilos as well [10:35] Hi Kilos hoesit? [10:36] Sorry, oom Kilos [10:36] Kilos: you done your last minute christmas shopping yet? [10:36] all ok here ty, all the best wishes for all of you [10:36] Thks Kilos [10:36] i dont shop [10:36] dankie oom [10:37] Kilos: you must learn to do it like the young ones :-) [10:37] buy and sell online [10:37] lol do what like the young ones? [10:37] Buy is easy, sell complicated [10:38] oh no man you still need money for that [10:38] i bought a hard drive like that remember [10:38] it's easy, always spend less than what you earn [10:38] save and invest the left overs [10:39] haahahahaha [10:39] I have bought three ssd's that way, best prices [10:39] grapmaker [10:39] And put overdraft on fixed deposit... [10:40] * inetpro the big financial advisor, just for today [10:40] lol [10:41] Lmga! inetpro what advice about Bitcoin? [10:41] Langjan: haha, that's one dangerous game [10:41] especially today [10:41] not good for the heart [10:41] you need nerves of steal [10:41] Yeah, good for speculators and gamblers [10:42] did you look at that trend today? [10:43] Nope, not my cuppa tea [10:45] People who market bitcoin as an investment should be jailed [10:46] Kilos, how are the girls in Melbourne [10:46] ? [10:46] mindboggling how the value of a BTC drops and returns to previous levels (not yet today) and higher [10:47] but obviously there's no guarentees [10:48] girls are ok ty Langjan [10:49] Good. A blessed Christmas to you and to them [10:49] Langjan: be brave and take 1% of your monthly savings and play with it [10:50] I think digital currencies will be there in the long run [10:50] everything will be digital [10:50] cash will disappear [10:50] Thks inetpro but whilst I agree with you, it's not the type of game that I like to play [10:50] so will credit cards [10:52] You guys must enjoy your week end and have a lovely Christmas, may the joy and peace of the living King Jesus be with you. [10:52] baie dankie oom Jan [10:53] ty Langjanand the same and more for you [10:53] 'Bye for now, see you in the new year if all goes well and take good care. [10:53] Thks Kilos [10:53] be safe [10:53] You too young man [10:53] Langjan: best of wishes to you and the family as well [10:54] thks inetpro [10:54] also hoping that we'll get some rain as well [10:54] Agreed! [10:55] Cheers guys [11:38] * chesedo converted some cash he did not care much about to some Bitcoins early in the month, then realised that it might be safer to spread them so moved some of it to Monero last week [13:52] wb melodie [13:52] thks inetpro [13:52] how are you doing? [13:53] I'm ok, just super busy [13:53] have you seen my message on #ubuntu-africa? [13:53] no of course not [13:53] nope... not yet [13:53] for the African countries speaking French: https://aful.org/gul/liste#afrique [13:54] there are perhaps some updates to be done on that page [13:54] that's the list of the French speaking LUGs [13:54] Kilos how are you? [13:54] oh no, unfortunately I don't yet do French [13:54] come to France, I'll teach you :) [13:55] then back to your place you'll teach others :D [13:55] ok, have to do other stuff, install a Ubuntu Mate to a machine. have a nice day! [13:55] haha... sounds like an interesting challenge [13:55] good luck [13:55] I'm usually good at that kind of challenge, teaching people how to learn more efficiently. :) [13:55] thnks! [14:26] hi melodieim ok ty [14:45] hi Kilos ! [14:46] I've read your crowdfunding page, I'm happy that it has been sorted out [14:46] are there still needs for financial support? [14:46] and are you watching your diet? [15:03] Later all [16:05] we are only half way melodie [16:06] yes i am watching my diet carefully none of the good parts to eat anymore [16:06] \hehe [17:12] chesedo: looks like every major cryptocurrency suffered double-digit losses in the last 24 hours [17:13] so I don't see the point of moving it out to another currency [18:25] well my crypto holdings have held value over the last 24 hours and are up over the last week, but I guess it depends how you choose to defined major whether you are right or not. [18:30] MaNI: https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2017/12/bitcoins-price-is-down-33-percent-from-highs-earlier-this-week/ [18:39] yeah I'm well aware of that, I don't hold any bitcoin [18:44] nor any of the other coins in that list, as I said depends on your definition of major - if it's the standard "high market cap" junk then yeah sure all 'major' crypto currencies have suffered double digit losses [19:05] MaNI: wow, what are you using? [19:06] As a measure of major? Well I tend to look at the utility of the currency and codebase. [19:07] for example bitcoin gold and bitcoin cash are not -major- they are a cheap copy of bitcoin that doesn't even have proper developers, nobody actually uses them for anything [19:07] I mean what cryptocurrency, we definitely need something that remains stable [19:07] they are purely and simply a hype based trading vessel. [19:08] well I only hold Gulden currently, because it's now my full time job, and it would be a bit hypocritical to bet against myself :P [19:08] also as I develop it I'm confident that the developer is real and that actual code is being written - which is more than I can say for the other 99.9% [19:08] *shrug* [19:09] still I'm sure if you look around there are others as well with some stability - people tend to only look at the headlines and coinmarketcap neither of which are really great for identifying actual projects of worth (IMO) [19:19] MaNI: interesting, thanks [19:20] * inetpro feeling left far behind in the race [19:21] hehe [20:01] inetpro, you haven't looked at bitrex yet [20:01] Cryterion: no, please tell me more [20:02] * inetpro is a newbie in this game [20:03] It's a trading platform, all crypto, almost all crypto currencies either via bitcoin, or direct to that currency [20:03] can I buy with ZAR? [20:03] or do I get a ZAR wallet there like Luno? [20:04] yes, but I'd sell atm if you have bitcoin, last I checked 1 BTC = ZAR 227000 [20:04] * inetpro has nothing to sell, so not much to lose [20:05] but I guess I have to start somewhere, now that everyone is talking about it [20:05] crypto to normal currency has to go through a bank that supports its, or some sort of exchange that does [20:05] look at XMG [20:06] I mine it [20:06] yikes! [20:06] sounds like hard labor [20:07] network is down atm, some issue, but pool is running tests to go back online soon [20:08] Think I'd done about ZAR 3 , with the BTC jump, it's about ZAR 40 now, small, but no loss if I play it [20:11] Cryterion: what kind of hardware do you need for that? [20:13] it cpu minable, but I'm planning on switching it to a Raspberry Bank and building a solar powered system, I.E. free energy to mine [20:13] currently, just to play and learn it, my own pc's [20:14] wow, that sounds interesting indeed [20:15] https://xmg.minerclaim.net/index.php althought the network is down atm, should be back up soon, next day or so [20:17] I just played it to see how thing go, but yes, it small amounts, but you're still gaining when that processor would normally be idle [20:18] / [20:18] // [20:18] . [20:18] .. [20:19] * inetpro also wants to feel what it's like to work in the mines one day [20:21] is gold reef city's mine still open? [20:21] haha, I have no idea [20:22] went down it, 1km, with the full battery pack to power the headlight in the late 80's, and got to hold and sold gold ingot [20:27] wow! [20:29] we couldn't run out with it though :( [20:34] haha, they used to tell you if you could pick it up with one hand you could keep it, or something like that [20:34] IIRC there was a bit of an incident where someone cheated [20:49] I remember that, but they got held at gun point for that to happen [20:49] gold ingot is about 12.5kg's [20:50] and that's alloyed gold anyway
