code_hello? how i can start a hotspot using the network applet on Plasma desktop? i can see the hotspot in the connection editor but it doesn't appear on the network applet so i cannot start it16:17
code_i am on ubuntu 17.10 and installed kubuntu-desktop from the ppa. I can start the hotspot normally from the network applet on a gnome session but cannot do the same from Plasma16:21
BluesKajcode_, check for network-manager on plasma/terminal16:26
BluesKajalso, make sure your plasma packages are up to date16:27

BoneToneis there much difference between installing kde on an existing ubuntu system and installing kubuntu outright?22:59
valorieBoneTone: I think so23:03
valoriewhen I've tried "installing over" I end up with gnomish artifacts all over the place23:03
valorieplus a bunch of apps I don't like23:03
BoneToneyeah, you'd have to go and change default apps, etc.  but basically, it's just the DE & default apps that change, nothing missing from ability to run new hardware, etc.?23:04
valorieit certainly can be done successfully, but we test our ISO as it is23:04
valoriethe core is the same23:04
BoneToneright, i mean, that's probably the direction I'm going, install the variation directly23:04
valorieyou could probably do ubuntu-server + Plasma23:05
BoneTonethat's what I thought, I just wanted to confirm23:05
valoriebut still, I like our setup23:05
valorieand as I said, that's what we test23:05
BoneTonenah, no server, this is for an Intel NUC in the living room as a HTPC23:05
BoneTonebasically debating between kubuntu and lubuntu at this point23:06
BoneTonei can't stand unity, especially for a htpc23:07
valorielubuntu is certainly a good alternative23:07
valorieand if you don't want apps, you are essentially choosing between lxde and plasma23:08
valoriethis isn't religion; choose what you want to work with23:08
BoneToneoh, yeah, no doubt, i use different environments on different machines, a couple different ones on the same machine sometimes even, just trying to figure out what my fiancee will like best in the living room23:11
BoneTonetrying to make the htpc easiest for her23:11
BoneToneand mainly i wanted to confirm my understanding that kubuntu would still work with the hardware the same as ubuntu23:12
