[03:24] #ubuntu [03:27] heh [03:48] daftykins: tell me something [03:48] daftykins: what do you think of Linux [03:48] Linus* [03:49] go away [04:06] daftykins: ^ in the words of W. C. Fields :P [04:57] good morning to all [04:58] lotuspsychje: Just in time to enjoy another cuppa motivational fluid :P [04:59] hey Bashing-om how was the night? [04:59] lotuspsychje: Still s l o w . [04:59] end of year emptyness [05:00] 2 january activity will come back, alcohol washes away :p [05:00] LOL [05:00] haha [05:00] wow look who's back Ben64 awake? [05:04] !info mofo [05:04] Package mofo does not exist in artful [05:17] lotuspsychje: had to rma my cpu [05:18] Ben64: can you still find your #ubuntu users chart url for us? [05:18] oh man idk [05:19] do you have anything to help me grep it [05:19] month, keywords, uh.. other things [05:19] Ben64: crew told us you had something made yourself? [05:20] yeah but its probably online somewhere [05:20] ah kk [05:20] i probably posted it in this channel [05:21] Sep 24 2017 00:32:38 there we go, freshly graphed graph [05:21] guessing september 24th [05:21] https://i.imgur.com/JbW3Ntz.png [05:22] lets c [05:22] cool! [05:23] dax: https://i.imgur.com/JbW3Ntz.png Ben64 graph [05:23] theres official logs though, couldn't someone make one from that [05:24] lotuspsychje: that's line count, not users. as i think i said already, i found a users graph from another chanop anyway [05:25] dax: ok mate, just wanted to share if it 'was' usefull for you guys [05:25] line count on the official logs is basically "hey look a fun downwards slide for the last decade with a little extra curve down when we set +r", i pulled them a few days ago [05:25] ooh user count would be interesting to see [05:26] (the official logs stopped including joins/quits/nicks around 2007, so I can't really make any inferences about before then) [05:26] s/nicks/parts/ [05:27] my logs don't have user counts [05:28] it's some HTML 5 thing behind a login but the tl;dr is +r took us from about 1750 to about 1100, and we're currently at 1200 after a few days -r [05:28] might be higher than 1750, netsplits make it a bit of a mess [05:30] the flavor channels had user drops over the same time period and didn't go +r, so goodness only knows where we'll end up [05:31] bionic will solve this for sure [05:31] i hope so. i'm very impressed with it so far [05:31] assuming the quirks from the 17.04 -> 17.10 upgrade are all ironed out for 16.04 -> 18.04 upgrades, i think it's gonna be quite a nice release to support [05:32] not a lot of shiny new crap, so hopefully a decent amount of polish [05:32] (from 17.10 to 18.04, that is) [05:32] yeah [05:32] new themes gonna do alot i think [05:32] they trying to get that unity feeling on gnome i think [05:33] how about wayland though [05:33] nvidia still defaults to xorg i assume. amdgpu's been fine with it, lotuspsychje said he had some performance issues with radeon [05:33] yeah wayland is another thing they will have to solve big time [05:33] no idea about intel [05:34] weird thing is, tested a system with nvidia and that goes smoothly on wayland [05:34] it's been seeming more and more like nvidia is not so good for linux anymore [05:35] thye better fix that stuff [05:35] it's the same it's always been. nvidia closed-source drivers have good performance but lag behind on shiny new open-developed protocols/ideas [05:35] the main difference is that AMD's doing a hell of a job on their open-source side [05:36] another issue im worry about, is ubuntu-desktop not to be lightweight anymore as unity? [05:36] ubuntu-desktop was lightweight? [05:38] yes [05:38] i installed 16.04 an soo many systems [05:38] best release ever for me [05:42] and will they leave xorg alive on bionic or not? [05:42] thrilling future for ubuntu [05:42] i'm assuming it's gonna be the same as it is on 17.10 [05:43] xorg's not dead upstream, so i doubt there's a rush to be rid of it, especially given the nvidia situation [05:44] not sure if i'll upgrade to bionic or not this coming year [05:44] im running all machines bionic already Ben64 [05:44] pre-alpha [05:44] too risky [05:44] desktop's on bionic. laptop's on 17.10 and will be on 18.04 when it comes out. [05:44] i'm still trying to get my system stable [05:44] why? its rocksolid [05:45] gonna see if i can ride 18.04 until EOL without getting bored and switcing [05:45] unless for the lagging mouse/programs on few wayland [05:45] (spoilers: i won't, i get bored easy) [05:45] new kernel might be nice, but i can get that here on 16.04 anyway [05:45] dax: same here, i refuse to take another flavor and use ubuntu-desktop as daily driver [05:46] i just got 16.04 themed properly too [05:46] lol yeah you spent some deep time on that [05:46] i can even grab windows to resize them [05:47] wow! [05:47] default was 1 pixel border to grab [05:47] im too curious about the future gnome thing myself.. [05:47] and what will happen to unity..? [05:47] i see mariogrip did another magic trick in #ubports also with unity8 [05:48] android apps support to come in few weeks for ubuntu touch [05:48] we aint seen nothing yet guys [05:50] thought touch was ded [05:51] no [05:51] its big alive mate [05:51] everyone got ubports on his mobile now [05:51] and 1100 telegram group of devs & users [05:53] #ubports Ben64 [05:53] but i just got oreo on my phone [06:00] whats that [06:01] android oreo [06:01] ah [06:02] it's really nice [06:02] oh yeah i forgot oreo includes the ability to theme [06:02] might have to jump into that now [06:03] :p [06:03] i don't like the light themes in android [06:08] i dont like android at all [06:08] im too paranoia for it [06:56] 'Nuff :) .. take care .. g nite \o [07:31] hey EriC^ [07:31] heya lotus [07:31] how are you mate [07:31] good thanks you? [07:32] great here EriC^ [07:33] morning alkisg [07:33] good morning lotuspsychje, good morning everyone [07:35] im looking an easy way to add a picture in outlook mail from ubuntu, for my older aunt that gets confused with adding attachment [07:35] any ideas i could try? [07:35] she's on unity [07:36] cant rightmouse a picture as her email isnt configured locally with thunderbird, only online [07:36] I've switched most schools to thunderbird even for the staff PCs that still use Ubuntu [07:36] So I haven't seen the Outlook mail client for ages [07:36] that still use Ubuntu ==> sry Windows [07:36] lol [07:37] even drag n drop a pic to outlook she cant do.. [07:37] im out of ideas how to make it even more easy [07:37] Thunderbird displays attachments inline though, I would imagine outlook would do that too? [07:37] morning, everyone [07:37] hey ducasse morning mate [07:38] There's right click to the file manager => send email [07:38] alkisg: doesnt that goto thunderbird then? [07:38] That starts a mail with that file as an attachment [07:38] Ah you want it to go to a browser? [07:38] yeah outlook.com [07:38] I thought you were running the outlook email client, not the browser version [07:39] dont want setup a local client for even more confusing [07:39] she got like 1500 emails [07:39] you know old users right [07:41] Maybe there's some http://outlook.com?mail=xx&subject=yy&attachment=zz that you could use to open pictures with the browser... [07:41] ill lookup [07:42] then i was thinking teamviewer, to do it for her... [07:42] but adding a pic should be the base reason why she has a pc right [07:43] i udnerstand her confusing, cause on outlook when you upload a pic, default is that outlook cloud service to browse in [07:43] so she says, they asking me for an account, and doesnt understand she needs to browse her pc [12:45] Hiyas all [14:00] hi everyone [14:07] hi pauljw :-) [14:07] hey BluesKaj :) staying warm? [14:09] yeah, it's cool by our stds, but not real cold atm ..slightly below normal [14:11] but the deep freeze will spill down again tonight [14:20] yeah, we're going to be getting about 12 days of below freezing temps here, couple of nights below zero. not crazy about it, but it is what it is. [16:56] wb pauljw [16:57] thanks, BluesKaj :)
