[03:09] <nhaines> The first security updates for the Spectre and Meltdown CPU vulnerabilities landed last week, and more will land Tuesday.  This is a serious vulnerability affecting all Intel processors from the past 15 years, several AMD processors, and some graphics cards.
[03:09] <nhaines> So it's very important to install any available security updates from the Ubuntu repositories and reboot the system.

[03:39] <nhaines> But yeah, it's bad now.  But when it was built, it wasn't.
[03:39] <nhaines> I don't know what they observe there now, but it's a fantastic planetarium.
[03:39] <Geom> Yes, I know.  We used to go out to the desert to see the stars.

[03:40] <nhaines> I forget now if it was there or Palomar that they discovered that other galaxies were actually galaxies and not just nebulae.
[03:41] <nhaines> I went out to Afton Canyon Campground, about 30 miles past Barstow on the 15.  Halfway between here and Vegas, just enough to have the least amount of light pollution around.
[03:41] <nhaines> When I got up after the moon at set, I walked around and got to see my shadow on the ground that was cast by the Milky Way.
