jagardanielhi! is it normal that the Xorg process spikes to 40-50 cpu usage when you move or resize a window? same thing goes for one of the firefox process when you scroll on a webpage - feels very "laggy"03:53
jagardanieli'm using nvidia proprietary but had the same issue (if it is an issue) with nouveau as well03:54
specialkenderhello guys07:06
specialkenderanybody here that can help me with a processor problem_07:06
specialkender?07:06
knomeask and find out07:11
specialkenderso, i came back from the vacations and basically when i run any program that would take like 10% of the CPU of my computer is now taking 100%. Nobody should have touched my pc, so i really dunno what it can be. i have an intel i7-6700 8core. Anyone know what can it be?07:12
specialkenderif you need any extra piece of info ask me, i dunno what to provide07:17
specialkenderanyone?07:41
specialkenderi'm kinda desperate in here07:42
specialkender>.<07:42
specialkenderso, i came back from the vacations and basically when i run any program that would have took 10% before takes like 10% of the CPU of my computer is now taking 100%. Like pulse audio takes 13% without any audio running. Nobody should have touched my pc, so i really dunno what it can be. i have an intel i7-6700 8core. Anyone know what can it be?08:01

specialkenderif i open youtube Web Content takes like 80% CPU08:20
specialkenderit's totally unusable now08:21
=== Justanick1 is now known as Justanick
anarhist_hello, i have added another drive to fstab, assuming that the system will see it as internal, but it doesn't. for example in the file manager it is listed as one of the external, giving me option to dismount it (which then fails), there's also no trash on that drive, and all the files are deleted right away. the line in fstab is "/dev/mapper/mapper-thing/pathext4errors=remount-ro02"08:36
zleapspecialkender: with you tube there is a flash version and html version are both causing the same issue ?  I am not an expert but afaik flash is a serious resource drain08:45
specialkenderit's not youtube the problem, if i run any program it uses like 85% of the CPU and slows the computer like mad08:50
specialkenderzleap: now though i sudo apt full upgraded the system and mayyybe it is better. so it still uses up nearly 100% of the cpu, but at least now if i open two programs it splits the CPU usage among the 208:51

nosmelcI did a Clonezilla image of a hard drive with a Xubuntu 17.10 install on a laptop.  The image came out to just over 3GB.  Does that sound right?  I thought it took up more space than that13:14
bobuhi! anyone here?13:48
fietHi13:52
bobuhello13:54
knomebobu, if you have a support question, ask the real question14:35
bobuhi knome14:35
bobuI had some problems with samba14:36
knomenosmelc, that doesn't sound awfully wrong at least14:36
bobuhad to restart after I set a new shared folder14:36
nosmelcknome, thanks14:36
bobubecause Gigolo didn't recognize it. now it does, but I check another computer, which has Mint xfce 32-bit on it: will it recognize the new share immediately or not and vice versa14:38
knomebobu, i'm not a samba expert by any means as i haven't used it in years, but i'm pretty sure there are ways to make new shares appear even without booting14:38
bobuknome, are you familiar with other methods? I'm interested14:39
knomebobu, other methods to do what?14:40
knometransfer files with windows machines or other unix machines?14:40
bobuknome, how to make shares appear14:40
bobuknome, yes, transfer. linux-windows, and linux-linux.14:41
knomerestarting samba should work, but even that sounds a bit dramatic14:41
bobuI see14:41
knome"sudo service smbd restart" i think -- you might need to replace smbd with something else14:41
bobuI try that one, tnx14:42
bobuthunar is not very friendly. I think nautilus was. but I don't want to use nautilus if I don't have to14:42
knomethunar is simple and light (and it's designed to be)14:43
knomei personally use fuse extensions to get to things i need to, but they aren't necessarily useful with windows machines14:45
knomelike sshfs to mount a directory on a remote machine, but in order to do that, you'd have to run an ssh server on the windows machine14:45
knomethat's more sensible between unix machines though14:46
SnowyCoderHello, just wanted to say but the online IRC (the one in xubuntu.org/irc/) doesn't work in my pc (manjaro kde firefox 57.0.4)15:23
SnowyCoderDo you know why my laptop (xubuntu) doesn't go in standby when I close the pc screen but only when I open it? I notice it because things like youtube or other players don't stop until I open the screen again.15:28
koolkalanghi all, where are the birghtness function keys defined?16:11
koolkalangI only assume it's defined elsewhere, because I don't see a keycode when using xev16:13
bobuhi. I can open Xfce4 Dictionary multiple times on Mint, but not on xubuntu! Why? It is very useful: for example, one is English->German, the other is the opposite. But it can only be opened once on xubuntu.16:58
ggortanhello guys i came here for help. So, i have 2 LG monitors but my computer show the same desktop on both. What can i do to have independent worksapec?21:40
ggortani tried intel update tool but it says xubunto is not compatible22:06
ggortan00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82Q963/Q965 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)22:07
