[00:07] <wxl> generally the only issue is that dpkg won't resolve your depends for you. so if you're going to install something, you have to make sure you install all its dependencies first. which means you have to do your homework.
[00:07] <wxl> apt essentially does all that for you, so it makes life easier, but there's no reason you can't do things the hard way.
[00:08] <wxl> now whether or not you SHOULD or whether or not it makes any sense to do so is an entirely different question.
