rakhanreturnsHello all! I have a question - I am attempting to create a custom Live USB of Lubuntu 16.04.3 LTS with persistent storage for additional packages like clamav. Unfortunately, when I attempt to install the software, Software Center and Synaptic both report that they couldn't download the packages, and apt-get throws an error relating to cryptsetup. Does anyone know what to do about this?00:08
wxlcouldn't download which packages?00:11
wxlyou might want to use apt proper to give you a sense as to what's happening00:12
rakhanreturnsSpecifically the clamav package and its dependencies and clamdscan00:12
wxlprobably some sort of temporary connectivity/networking issue or a mirror problem of smoe kind00:13
wxl!info clamav xenial00:14
ubottuclamav (source: clamav): anti-virus utility for Unix - command-line interface. In component main, is optional. Version 0.99.3+addedllvm-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 (xenial), package size 100 kB, installed size 738 kB00:14
wxl!info clamdscan xenial00:14

wxlseems those are both happily in the right place and in main, no less00:14
jk^https://goo.gl/images/sJ3f2J i installed lubuntu, but i checked just first checkbox. How to install the things listed in secondo checkbox later, when the operating system is completely installed?00:14
rakhanreturnsWeird... I did apt-get update first. I guess it's a networking issue then.00:15
wxljk^: install ubuntu-restricted-extras00:16
jk^how to do that using gui?00:17
wxloh sorry00:18
wxlwe actually have our own lubuntu-restricted-extras00:18
jk^ok but how to install that "LATER" if i have not installed them during installation?00:19
wxlyou can use gnome-software to install it00:19
wxlyou install the package.00:19
jk^i can't find where :|00:19
wxl!info lubuntu-restricted-extras00:19

jk^i opened synaptic00:26

wxljk^: that said, are you looking for something specific?01:06

LuMinthello! I wanted to ask if there was any accessibility feature in LXDE.In particular I'm interested in a lens (feature to zoom the screen picture)09:22
zleapanyone here know about mounting filesystens please chat to ssarah  in #xubuntu09:57
laceylaneyTell them to check the arch wiki on filesystems........  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/File_systems10:01
redwolfLuMint, LXDE is a minimal desktop and it ships the minimum app set10:01
redwolf  but you can install KMag to enable a magnifier tool. it has a lot of KDE dependencies, but it's worth the install if you need it to work10:02
laceylaneyInstall orca and the magnifier will follow the mouse. Would have less dependencies than kde........ apt-get install gnome-orca10:04

xaeB5hi. when i try to run apt remove pidgin, it is also wanting to remove lubuntu-desktop and lubuntu-gtk-desktop. is it safe to proceed?17:44
lubot<tsimonq2> I wouldn't.17:44
wxloh shush17:44
wxlthey're just index files17:44
wxlyou can remove them17:44
wxlBUT if the content of lubuntu-desktop changes in fhte future you won't get those17:44
xaeB5what do you mean by the content of lubuntu-desktop changing?17:45
wxllubuntu-desktop is an index, basically17:46
wxlit says "install all these apps"17:46
wxlwith it installed, if we switch what apps make up lubuntu-desktop, you'll get those new changes in the future17:46
wxlwithout, the system stays as is17:46
xaeB5oh17:46
xaeB5hmm17:47
xaeB5is that likely/common that it would get changed?17:48
wxlno, but nothing's impossible17:48
xaeB5ok i'll risk it then17:48
wxljust replace all the offending parts of pidgin with blank files. problem solved.17:48
wxlis hard drive space really THAT much of an issue?17:49
xaeB5well i didn't see the point in having two chat clients and two torrent clients installed, it's not about the HD space17:50
xaeB5i'll just leave them i guess17:50
wxlit's not going to hurt you17:50
wxlif it's visually difficult for you, you can remove them from your menu17:50
xaeB5that's true17:51
xaeB5i have a strange issue where when i lock my screen and come back to it later, it's slow to bring up the password dialog, and when i enter the password it always goes to a black screen and thinks for 5 seconds, then gives me the password dialog again as if it didn't accept it the first time, but the second attempt always workas17:52
xaeB5lol17:53
xaeB5i can eventually get in on the second attempt so it's not urgent, but i'm throwing it out there in case anyone here has that issue and fixed it somehow17:53
wxlnever heard of it. you can always file a bug. you might want to look and see if there's anything interesting going on in logs17:54
wxlhttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/light-locker/+bug/163171517:55
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1631715 in light-locker (Ubuntu) "Password required twice returning from suspend" [Undecided,New]17:55
xaeB5yea that sounds like my bug exactly18:06
wxljk^: oh. i should have paid more attention. that's not an error. it's a warning, thus the "w."18:42
jk^wxl, i don't understand :\18:48
wxljk^: you don't have a problem.18:48
jk^ok, now i understand18:50
jk^why i get this error? W: Can't drop privileges for downloading as file '/var/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloads/partial/adobe-flashplugin_20180109.1.orig.tar.gz' couldn't be accessed by user '_apt'. - pkgAcquire::Run (13: Permesso negato)18:50
jk^Installing from local file /var/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloads/partial/adobe-flashplugin_20180109.1.orig.tar.gz18:50
wxlit's not an error18:50
wxlit's a warning18:50
jk^maybe, because i have chromiun opened?18:50
wxlthe "w" at the beginning stands for warning18:50
jk^so when it tries to install flash player, it ecountered a problem?18:51
wxlno18:51
wxli think it will be difficult for me to explain this to you given the language issues18:51
wxlso just trust me18:51
wxlbut if you must: apt changed its security methodology for fetchers (which are rarely used in *OPEN SOURCE* software, but are common for nonfree stuff). the way it's set up, it works, but it's not ideal, given that. so it gives a warning.18:52
wxlas a general rule, if you see a warning, you probably don't need to worry about it.18:53
jk^ok19:02
jk^wxl19:04
siloxidI'm running a different window manager from ~/.xsession. but when I apt dist-upgrade my system, it starts ignoring the .xsession file and drops me into the default window manager. what is it looking for to load the WM I want if not the traditional .xsession file?19:07
