[00:08] Hello all! I have a question - I am attempting to create a custom Live USB of Lubuntu 16.04.3 LTS with persistent storage for additional packages like clamav. Unfortunately, when I attempt to install the software, Software Center and Synaptic both report that they couldn't download the packages, and apt-get throws an error relating to cryptsetup. Does anyone know what to do about this? [00:11] couldn't download which packages? [00:12] you might want to use apt proper to give you a sense as to what's happening [00:12] Specifically the clamav package and its dependencies and clamdscan [00:13] probably some sort of temporary connectivity/networking issue or a mirror problem of smoe kind [00:14] !info clamav xenial [00:14] clamav (source: clamav): anti-virus utility for Unix - command-line interface. Version 0.99.3+addedllvm-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 (xenial), package size 73 kB, installed size 451 kB [00:14] seems those are both happily in the right place and in main, no less [00:14] https://goo.gl/images/sJ3f2J i installed lubuntu, but i checked just first checkbox. How to install the things listed in secondo checkbox later, when the operating system is completely installed? [00:15] Weird... I did apt-get update first. I guess it's a networking issue then. [00:16] jk^: install ubuntu-restricted-extras [00:17] how to do that using gui? [00:18] oh sorry [00:18] we actually have our own lubuntu-restricted-extras [00:19] ok but how to install that "LATER" if i have not installed them during installation? [00:19] you can use gnome-software to install it [00:19] you install the package. [11:02] end april [14:25] hi wxl [14:25] i'm looking for what we talking about, yesterday... [14:25] i'm looking for what we were talking about, yesterday... [17:44] hi. when i try to run apt remove pidgin, it is also wanting to remove lubuntu-desktop and lubuntu-gtk-desktop. is it safe to proceed? [17:44] I wouldn't. [17:44] oh shush [17:44] they're just index files [17:44] you can remove them [17:44] BUT if the content of lubuntu-desktop changes in fhte future you won't get those [17:45] what do you mean by the content of lubuntu-desktop changing? [17:46] lubuntu-desktop is an index, basically [17:46] it says "install all these apps" [17:46] with it installed, if we switch what apps make up lubuntu-desktop, you'll get those new changes in the future [17:46] without, the system stays as is [17:46] oh [17:47] hmm [17:48] is that likely/common that it would get changed? [17:48] no, but nothing's impossible [17:48] ok i'll risk it then [17:48] just replace all the offending parts of pidgin with blank files. problem solved. [17:49] is hard drive space really THAT much of an issue? [17:50] well i didn't see the point in having two chat clients and two torrent clients installed, it's not about the HD space [17:50] i'll just leave them i guess [17:50] it's not going to hurt you [17:50] if it's visually difficult for you, you can remove them from your menu [17:51] that's true [17:52] i have a strange issue where when i lock my screen and come back to it later, it's slow to bring up the password dialog, and when i enter the password it always goes to a black screen and thinks for 5 seconds, then gives me the password dialog again as if it didn't accept it the first time, but the second attempt always workas [17:53] lol [17:53] i can eventually get in on the second attempt so it's not urgent, but i'm throwing it out there in case anyone here has that issue and fixed it somehow [17:54] never heard of it. you can always file a bug. you might want to look and see if there's anything interesting going on in logs [17:55] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/light-locker/+bug/1631715 [17:55] Launchpad bug 1631715 in light-locker (Ubuntu) "Password required twice returning from suspend" [Undecided,New] [18:06] yea that sounds like my bug exactly [18:42] jk^: oh. i should have paid more attention. that's not an error. it's a warning, thus the "w." [18:48] wxl, i don't understand :\ [18:48] jk^: you don't have a problem. [18:50] ok, now i understand [18:50] why i get this error? W: Can't drop privileges for downloading as file '/var/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloads/partial/adobe-flashplugin_20180109.1.orig.tar.gz' couldn't be accessed by user '_apt'. - pkgAcquire::Run (13: Permesso negato) [18:50] Installing from local file /var/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloads/partial/adobe-flashplugin_20180109.1.orig.tar.gz [18:50] it's not an error [18:50] it's a warning [18:50] maybe, because i have chromiun opened? [18:50] the "w" at the beginning stands for warning [18:51] so when it tries to install flash player, it ecountered a problem? [18:51] no [18:51] i think it will be difficult for me to explain this to you given the language issues [18:51] so just trust me [18:52] but if you must: apt changed its security methodology for fetchers (which are rarely used in *OPEN SOURCE* software, but are common for nonfree stuff). the way it's set up, it works, but it's not ideal, given that. so it gives a warning. [18:53] as a general rule, if you see a warning, you probably don't need to worry about it. [19:02] ok [19:04] wxl [19:07] I'm running a different window manager from ~/.xsession. but when I apt dist-upgrade my system, it starts ignoring the .xsession file and drops me into the default window manager. what is it looking for to load the WM I want if not the traditional .xsession file?
