pojntfxHey I am testing out the Lubuntu Bionic ISO and everything I get when it has been booted up is a dialog saying "Select window manager". I choose openbox and I can use the alt + f2 menu to launch apps, but there is no background or panel. Is this intentional? What am I doing wrong?12:44
redwolfpojntfx, yes, it's a temporary bug already fixed. we're uploading the new ISOs very soon with that problem solved13:00
pojntfxOh, great, thanks a lot!13:03
redwolfsorry for the inconvenience, we'll have the ISO ready very soon :)13:04
pojntfxNo problem, I should have just looked at the bug tracker ;) I'm thinking of installing lubuntu on a lot of older machines (Athlon 64's) and I think that lubuntu might be the perfect choice ;)13:05
redwolfI revived an old IBM laptop with the new build, so yes, it'll suit perfectly13:08
redwolfOf course, no composite effects13:08
pojntfxYeah, I'm gonna deploy them at my school for Arduino and Web Browsing (No Videos)13:11
pojntfxSo no composite effects needed ;)13:12
pojntfxThey are currently running XP which runs really bad - plus it's proprietary13:12
redwolf:)13:14
melodiehi:17:13
melodiehello!17:13
melodieKamilion hello, I would like to ask about the latest Custumizer, as of today. I am being redoing an iso locally in my home computer and I get a strange fs date : 1969! Just one second before 1970 o_O17:14
melodiehttps://framapic.org/4vp0Swud49ME/s4SdkfI22k42.png17:14
melodiehere is a pic17:14
melodieso I'd like to ask where that might come from?17:14
melodiemy computer has it right. " date17:15
melodieSun Feb 11 18:15:15 CET 2018 "17:15
melodiethe files in the /home/customizer directory have the right date as of today as well17:16
Kamilionmelodie: unix time starts at jan 1st 1970 00:00:00 197017:53
Kamilionand that's an issue with squashfs-tools, nothing I can solve.17:54
Kamilioni don't see that line in any of my logs.17:55
melodiehi Kamilion ok, thanks, so is this neglectable ?17:55
Kamilionprobably.17:55
Kamilioni don't see that line in 16.0417:55
Kamilionso you're probably using something newer than I am.17:56
Kamilionand it has now decided it will print the date17:56
Kamilionmy assumption is the date field in question is actually read as "0 seconds since 1970 minus one second" or a value of "-1", which probably has some special significance in the ISO9660 standard.17:57
Kamilionit's just being printed in a bogus format of a unix timestamp minus one second17:58
Kamilionresulting in the end of december 1969 date17:58
melodieI am starting to use a 18.04, and trying to build one too17:59
tsimonq2(This is offtopic for the #lubuntu channel, y'all might want to move somewhere else.)17:59
melodiewith the very latest customizer I downloaded and installed today17:59
melodietsimonq2 oh sure thanks sorry17:59
tsimonq2thanks17:59
Kamilionuh, sorry, what exactly is off topic with a support question?18:00
tsimonq2The fact that it's about a custom ISO and not Lubuntu directly.18:00
tsimonq2(It'd be the same if an LXLE or Peppermint user wanted support here.)18:00
Kamilionno comprende18:01
KamilionCustomizer runs on lubuntu.18:01
Kamilionit generates custom ISOs.18:01
KamilionIt is a valid support question, since lubuntu is the only userspace I will support18:02
tsimonq2But it's not about Lubuntu specifically.18:02
KamilionI don't use anything else myself.18:02
melodieKamilion #linuxvillage chan will be more than happy to receive all questions related to free software of all kinds18:03
Kamilioni can't join.18:03
melodieplease allow me to invite your there and18:03
KamilionI'm already in a hundred and twenty channels, freenode's limit.18:03
melodieaha18:03
Kamilioni cannot join any more.18:03
melodiewell tell me where I can get your Customizer related answers else than here?18:03
KamilionApparently, nowhere.18:04
melodieand privately?18:04
melodietsimonq2 this chan does not seem crowded with questions and answers, would you allow us to pursue the discussion, please?18:08
tsimonq2melodie: I'd rather not.18:09
melodienever mind18:11
melodieKamilion is there another chan among the ones you are logged in where we could discuss currently this matter when useful?18:11
RandomGuyOnIrcmy lubuntu laptop was not responding to the keyboard or mouse for several minutes, but now is responding19:21
RandomGuyOnIrcit was fine via ssh the whole time19:21
RandomGuyOnIrchas anyone else seen this? does anyone know what is going on?19:21
zleapsometime that happens and a ctrl-alt-f1 to switch to a console then switch back to the gui display seems to fix it19:24
zleapno idea why things just suddenly stop responding19:25
RandomGuyOnIrcthanks19:27
melodiegood evening, bye Kamilion !19:40
KamilionRandomGuyOnIrc / zleap: I see similar behavior; I've noticed it seems to be something grabbing the cursor, preventing it from interacting with other windows. Alt-Space a few times seems to break out of it more reliably than anything else I've found.19:49
RandomGuyOnIrcKamilion: thanks20:22
RandomGuyOnIrcHow can I change the time till screenlock?20:55
Thedarkb-X40Is there anyway to get higher levels of compression with ssh -X?23:32
wxlThedarkb-X40: -C23:33
Thedarkb-X40I'm using that, but I'd like more compression23:33
wxldid you set CompressionLevel?23:34
wxland also are you sure the server supports compression?23:34
wxler wait i might have read that wrong23:35
Thedarkb-X40I don't know, I'm using the ssh server that comes with Debian.23:35
wxlithink CompressionLevel only works with protocol 123:35
wxlmy guess is you have 223:35
Thedarkb-X40Yeah, it doesn't work.23:36
wxlthere is a Compression setting in sshd_config. not sure if Debian defaults to having it on23:37
Thedarkb-X40Where's that?23:38
wxlyou can add -v to see verbose output. should tell you whether or not compression is working23:38
wxlread the man file :) but usually /etc/ssh/sshd_config23:38
wxlhere's an interesting solution to tweak compression https://serverfault.com/questions/388658/ssh-compression/586739#58673923:39
wxlbut i doubt that can easily be applied to what you're doing23:39
Thedarkb-X40Nah, I'm doing stuff over X.23:40
