mvozyga: uh, yeah, get well!07:13
mborzeckimvo: any idea why this test would randomly fail? https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/zSH48GPxp6/07:29
mborzeckimvo: last i've seen it fail on #4702, restarted the build and it's green now07:30
mupPR #4702: cmd/snap: also include tracking channel in list output <Created by chipaca> <https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/pull/4702>07:30
mborzeckimvo: this one in particular failed on debian-907:30
mvomborzecki: I assume this is randomly failing? or conistently?07:37
mborzeckimvo: randomly07:38
mvomborzecki: it07:38
mvomborzecki: ups07:38
mvomborzecki: did that start recently? there was a branch to move to EnsureDirState() for this file recently by zyga07:38
mvoI wonder if it that is related07:38
mborzeckii don't recall exactly when it started to fail07:39
mborzeckiseen it a couple of times and it enede in my to-investigate list07:39
mvomborzecki: whats your feeling time wise? a couple of days or more than that? iirc the ensuredirstate thing landed only mid last week07:42

mvoChipaca: https://pad.ubuntu.com/dcABWlRGY9 are some notes about the c-n-f work, let me know what you think and where it is too terse08:58
zygare09:03
zygahow are things09:04
Chipacamvo: on it09:12
Chipacamborzecki: when you say you'd rather the if directly next to the for, you just mean remove the interleaving comment and move the comments into the if/for?09:12
mborzeckiChipaca: haha, don't know what i was thinking about when writihg this comment, what i meant is that you could swap the order of if/for blocks, so that the for comes first09:14
Chipacamborzecki: reason for having it earlier is that it's a quicker check09:15
Chipacafeels silly to put quick checks after the slow one09:16
mborzeckiChipaca: hm so maybe you meant to return in the `if idx2 := strings.IndexByte(rest, '/'); idx2 >= 0` block?09:18
Chipacagah09:19
Chipacamborzecki: ignore me, i shouldn't be allowed to look at code this early09:19
Chipacaof course there's no return so the order is unimportant09:20
mborzeckimvo: haha, yeah, that bug is random surely, we're replacing core snap revision in a string like this tmp.check-1114575628337396084.0.var.lib.snapd.snap.core.111.usr.lib.snapd.snap-confine with simple .Replace(..., "111", 1), this ends up replacing the first '111' that appears, producing glob: tmp.check-*4575628337396084.0.var.lib.snapd.snap.core.111.usr.lib.snapd.snap-confine09:31
zyga_mborzecki oooh09:31

mvomborzecki: haha, nice bug09:32
pedronismvo: hi, I think once pstolowski auto-connect branch goes in, #4103 will need changes, but the hard problem should not be there anymore either09:38

pstolowskipedronis, do you want to take another look or can I merge when green?09:42
pedronispstolowski: mmh, I just noticed something,  it's not a bug in the new code, the old code would behave the same I think, maybe you want to pop in that chat with mvo in a bit?09:43

threshhello11:19
threshI'm struggling with theming issues on VLC snap;  It only seems to work under Unity, and GNOME shell, KDE, and MATE seem to show non-themed windows95-like UI.  We're using Qt5 from xenial-updates.11:20
mborzeckipstolowski: thanks a lot :)11:20
threshI've tried editing desktop-launch, to remove QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=appmenu-qt5 and QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb from it, and now on KDE the Qt theme is picked up, but no icons show up at all.  It also does not fix the issue on gnome shell.11:21
threshIs there anything I forgot to include to the snap?  Maybe some deps which provide theming are not staged?   Here's the snapcraft.yaml: git.videolan.org/?p=vlc.git;a=blob;f=extras/package/snap/snapcraft.yaml11:22

mvozyga: but still high on both snapd and snap16:10
mvozyga: woah, its really interessting (and hard to debug as it keeps killing the bash I use to ssh into my vm). its related to snap connect, that triggers the oom16:17
zygado you have the state? maybe there are some interesting tasks?16:17
zygapstolowski did you land the connect hooks?16:19
pstolowskizyga, no. just autoconnect changes16:19
pstolowskizyga, made autoconnect handled by tasks16:20
mvozyga: I looked at the state size, its just 136k16:21
mvozyga: butthe state is now lost, my ssh got killed16:21
zygahow are you setting that up for tetsing?16:21
zyga(it's certainly annoying to do)16:21
mvozyga: at first I was running autopkgtest, then just pure spread on a ubuntu-18.04-32 image16:22
pstolowskizyga, is your question related to the issue you're discussing with mvo?16:22
zygapstolowski yes16:22
mvozyga: and now I try to do it on my regular system (which is -64)16:22
pstolowskizyga, my changes landed shortly after the standup16:22
mvozyga: the usage pattern was ~800mb free mem (according to htop), then "snap connect ..." and my task got killed16:23
mvopstolowski: its probably not that (yet)16:23
mvopstolowski: because the adt failure is older and shows the same pattern16:23
zygamvo not sure if you can, try to set oom score for your shell16:23
mvo(older as in a couple of days older)16:23
mvozyga: yeah, I'm running the spread again16:23
mvozyga: its a bit of hit and miss if I get a shell at all :)16:23
mupPR snapd#4705 closed: cmd/snap-repair,httputil: set snap-repair User-Agent on requests <Created by pedronis> <Merged by pedronis> <https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/pull/4705>16:42
mvothanks pedronis - and its cherry-picked now16:46
pedronisthank you16:47
andyrockhey all, regarding logging in snapd during in ubiquity (the installer) the chroot solution will not work. I tried to feed the auth data (something like this https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/sSbKstQ2Sy/) and it seems to work fine17:04
mvocachio: where is test-snapd-hello-classic? we will need a build for ppc64el for this one (and probably s390x)17:05
cachiomvo, let me check17:05
andyrockany thoughts?17:05
cachiomvo, I don't have it17:06
cachiomvo, I don't see it neither in the store nor launchpad17:06
* kalikiana wrapping up for today17:08
cachiomvo, you don't see it in the store?17:09
mvocachio: slightly mysterious it is only there for i386/amd64 - test-snapd-hello-classic17:10
mvocachio: I need to have dinner now, not sure where it comes from but we need to make it available for all arches17:10
cachiomvo, np, could you please share it with me?17:10
cachiomvo, I'll do the rest17:11
cachiomvo, I'll push it to launchpad17:12
mvomborzecki: do you have a snapcraft.yaml for test-snapd-hello-classic for cachio ?17:12
mborzeckiit should be in the repo17:12
mborzeckimvo: cachio: https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/tree/master/tests/lib/snaps/test-snapd-hello-classic17:13
cachiomvo, mborzecki I uploaded the snap to launchpad to generate all the snaps for all the arch https://code.launchpad.net/~snappy-dev/snappy-hub/test-snapd-hello-classic17:14
cachiomvo, mborzecki could you please share the snap with me in the snap store?17:15
cachioso I can trigger the build for all the archs17:15
mborzeckicachio: it was reassigned to the 'canonical' account17:16
cachiomborzecki, great tx17:16
cachioit was already shared to me17:17
cachiomborzecki, mvo builds triggered for arm64 armhf and ppc64el17:19
cachiosnaps will be available in 1 hour aprox17:19
cachiomvo are you going to send 2.31.1 to beta today?18:04
mvocachio: probably not, I need to fix the autopkgtest failures first, without that there is little use in having 2.31.118:05
mvocachio: I'm kill struggling, with that, looks like we need some extra snaps for s390x and ppc64el (that should be fine) and we might need to figure out the interface-many test. it causes a out-of-memory condition18:06
mvocachio: I'm checking now if increasing the memory helps, its a bit thorny18:06
mvocachio: interfaces-many will fail on bionic on i386 (if you want to reproduce it)18:07
cachiomvo, ok, just tell me on what I can help you18:07
cachiomvo, sure18:07
mvocachio: you will need https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/pull/470418:07
mupPR #4704: tests: store journal in autopkgtest artiffacts and add 18.04-32 to qemu <Created by mvo5> <https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/pull/4704>18:07
cachiomvo, ok18:07
mvocachio: and then just run spread against the one interfaces-many test, this should result in an error and dmesg/journal should show you that it ran out of memory18:08
cachiook18:08
mvocachio: we probably want to improve spread to set /proc/$$/oom_score_adj to -960 or something to ensure the ssh shell is not killed but that is a PR for later :)18:08
mvocachio: if you can find out anything, please do let me know. I'm currently running it with -m 3500 to see if that helps18:08
cachiomvo, which image are you using?18:09
cachiothe last one?18:09
cachio18-Feb?18:09
mvocachio: I created a bionic image via autopkgtest-buildvm -r bionic -a i386 and renamed it to ubuntu-16.04-3218:19
cachiomvo, ok, I'll try that18:19
cachio}tx18:19
mvocachio: thanks, I tried with -m 3500 - kill OOM :/18:20
pedronismvo: is snapd using so much memory?18:44
mvopedronis: its not quite clear what is triggering this, it might also be something else, kernel or udev, the debug log I have so far is hard to read :/18:48
mvopedronis: but at least it is reproducible18:48
pedronisI would hope is not snapd, unless it's a change in go that triggers the issue18:48
pedronisI mean no deep reason for memory usage of snapd to change18:49
pedronismvo: as usual is also hard I suppose to correlate to what has changed recently in bionic :/18:50
mvopedronis: yeah, bionic is very much in flux and we did not run an i386 based test there in a while18:51
mvopedronis: maybe cachio can run this test with a 4.13 (artful) kernel to isolate if its that. then the same with systemd (downgrrade that as well). that might give us clues18:51
mvopedronis: its definitely not fun18:51
mvopedronis: the memory pattern I saw does not look terrible (saw in the journal output). snapd uses quite a bit of memory but nothing like the 1.5gb my VM has. not talking about the 4.5gb I gave it for testing and it would still die. also this works on amd6418:52
mvopedronis: and maybe cachio can test using a go1.9 build (and/or all of this I can also try in my morning)18:53
cachiomvo, pedronis I can try all this this afternoon18:54
mvocachio: thank you, keep me updated please :)18:55
cachiomvo, sure18:55
=== Guest92838 is now known as devil__
mvocachio: fwiw, here are the current autopkgtest results http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/proposed-migration/update_excuses.html#snapd - the worrying one is i386 with the interfaces-many failure. ppc64el looks like some snaps are missing, I think I uplaoded them all, s390x is new and also misses some snaps but I think they are also available now19:00
mvocachio: the next adt run (in a couple  of hours) hopefully gives us some more hints19:00
cachiomvo, thaks!!19:01
cachioI'll keep an eye on that run19:01
cachiomvo, I am running here on i386 to see the output of interfaces-many19:02
cachiombut preparing yet19:02
mvocachio: thank you. one more possible test is to use gccgo instead of go for the i386 build but that would really be the last possible thing to try19:02
mvocachio: cool, that is interessting19:02
mvocachio: it took a while for me but the oom is triggered every time19:02

mvosergiusens: what is broken right now?20:25
sergiusensmvo: same thing from Kyle's forum post on refreshes20:26
mvosergiusens: hm, iirc things have landed in edge - is it broken with edge still?20:27
sergiusensmvo: last time you told me to go to edge I couldn't move back, not going to lightly move as my entire workflow depends on snaps working :-)20:27
sergiusensI will check later20:27
mvosergiusens: *cough*20:28
mvosergiusens: are you running stable right now? if so you should have 2.31 since today20:28
