foobarryseen on my way to work this morning :D https://imgur.com/a/NQe2J08:57
zmoylan-piwe need a matrix law were all console text is green for geeky reasons... :-)09:21
foobarryany thinderbird users use an alternate search addon to replace b*ng?10:26
foobarryWorks with Thunderbird 11.0 - 31.*10:34
SuperMattI haven't used an email client in ages10:36
SuperMattGoogle Inbox does everything I need10:36
foobarryweb client slow if you have 10s of thousands of mails10:37
SuperMattI archive everything I don't need to work on10:38
SuperMattwhich means my inbox currently only has 2 emails in it10:39
SuperMatttell a lie, it's only 110:39
foobarryyou're talking to someone with 169 tabs10:39
SuperMattI just don't understand that10:39
SuperMattit sounds to me like you're working on too many things at once10:40
foobarryyep.10:40
foobarryand i'm also a manager so need to switch focus constantly to support my team10:40
foobarryi opened 40 tabs alone trying to get a newer tensorflow for ppc64le arch10:55
diddledanI cringe hard every time I hear an american say "soldering" with no L like "soddering"14:07
* zmoylan-pi hands diddledan a donut to calm him down...14:07
penguin42a jelly donut?14:09
zmoylan-pithese ones are filled with custard...14:10
diddledanin lethal weapon 3 the driver lady of the armored money van that gets hijacked first off says that murtagh "puts the jam in my jelly roll"!! what voodoo is that? it is jam or jelly?!14:10
zmoylan-piin usa it can be both...14:11
diddledanbut they moan when we call jam jam14:11
zmoylan-piis that jam uses whole pieces of fruit, while jelly uses the juice:14:12
penguin42now you're getting technical14:13
zmoylan-piif i wanted to get technical about food i'd post a link to the computer error that made half of uk's kfc's shut due to lack of chicken... a fowl, no fowl error... :-)14:14
diddledanhow does a shop that sells only chicken run out of chicken?!14:15
zmoylan-pithey hire new suppliers who promise to do the same job for less14:15
penguin42DHL are now mentioning the company that does software14:15
zmoylan-pihow hard can the software be, chicken in, chicken out...14:16
penguin42yeh, even if they fell back to just loading trucks up with the basic supplies and sending them around each shop in the area14:16
zmoylan-pibut then you'd need staff who knew the routes and locations of the shops...14:17
zmoylan-pibut they cost more money than some schlub the dole office sent14:17
diddledan"We’ve brought a new delivery partner on board, but they’ve had a couple of teething problems" HAH14:17
zmoylan-pigreat pic of a chicken mountain going nowhere fast in daily mail i think it was14:18
penguin42zmoylan-pi: you just give them a list of all the locations14:18
penguin42zmoylan-pi: I doubt DHLs problem is sending a truck to a location14:19
zmoylan-piand with the amount of locations they have to cover they won't make it in a day, hence half the shops don't get delieveries14:19
penguin42nah that's easy; you just send n-trucks14:20
zmoylan-pibut doing it for less means less trucks doing more...14:20
penguin42yeh but you should be able to do it for the 'oh heck we've screwed up' situation14:21
zmoylan-pibut software doesn't seem able to map a quicker route for supplying14:21
penguin42zmoylan-pi: I can't believe that it can be a route problem, I can believe it can be a route+logistics of what supplies are needed where14:21
directhextruck route mapping is big business14:21
zmoylan-pii'm sure their old supplier will loan them the trucks at a very reasonable fee...14:22
directhexi think it's UPS where their routing software tries to reduce or eliminate left turns (in the US)14:22
directhexsince left turns mean crossing traffic, so take longer14:22
zmoylan-piyeah but many of their cities are grids whereas in uk and ireland using the 'optimal' route suggested by software will mean taking a left through mrs. murphys front room...14:23
directhexmrs murphy had it coming14:23
zmoylan-pishe also has connections and will see you going...14:23
diddledanconnections to bristol via salisbury14:25
diddledanchange here for exeter14:25
penguin42the next big news story will be how many tonnes of out-of-date/rotting unshipped chicken they've had to dump14:30
zmoylan-pione word... kebab...14:34
Nafalloooooh. kebab ♥14:44
diddledanwhy do people have such a problem writing "than" always spelling it as "then". e.g. "I'd rather do xyz then abc"14:45
zmoylan-pijust add them to the same list of people who misused literally so much that they changed the meaning of literally to figuratively...14:46
Nafallo...add them literally or figuratively?14:46
KrimZon_2_try to out-'than' them14:46
KrimZon_2_'then' rather14:47
diddledane.g. 2: "libv4l2: error set_fmt gave us a different result then try_fmt!"14:51
* diddledan swears at delivery man14:51
diddledanring door bell and run14:52
diddledanhow do I complain to amazon?14:54
penguin42there's a button under the order somewhere isn't there?14:55
zmoylan-pididdledan: you order a do it yourself scorpion pit and a large new doormat? :-P14:56
SuperMattdiddledan: at least you had someone ring the door bell14:56
diddledanyeah, and then burger off14:58
diddledanit's not as if I took ages answering14:59
diddledanI was there within 15 seconds14:59
SuperMattAlas we've now created the problem of Amazon drivers. They just have too many deliveries to fulfil15:04
penguin42yeh, they've got to do the chicken yet15:06
SuperMattpffft15:06
penguin42hmm, the chicken run?15:06
Nafallopenguin42: "do not run" button ;-)15:08
NafalloI love the idea15:08
diddledanamazon need some kind of feedback system for their drivers to be chastised for ring-and-run failed deliveries15:08
Nafalloperhaps it should be a tick box.15:08
penguin42diddledan: It's almost rare for them to bother getting out of the van15:11
diddledanreply from their support: "To serve you at my best in this situation,  I have personally contacted the carrier and have asked them to deliver the parcel as soon as possible on priority basis without any delay"15:12
SuperMattAmazon's support is normally top drawer15:15
diddledanalthough there's a slight language barrier with the person who replied, I'll forgive them that though :-p "Rest assured that you will not contact us with these types of hassle"15:16
diddledanthat could be read as *YOU WILL NOT CONTACT US AGAIN*15:16
SuperMattheh15:16
diddledanI get their meaning though15:16
SuperMattWe've had issues where no one has bothered to ring. My wife is stay-at-home, so they can't get away with it15:17
SuperMattI've started adding delivery notes to everything that say if we're not in to deliver to any of the neighbours in the building15:17
diddledan:-)15:17
NET||abusehi there folks, we have an IPSEC vpn to work, and i want to use it with gnome network manager, but i dont know where to set the correct fields for it's config15:56
NET||abusein /etc/vpnc/work.conf i have IPSec gateway vpn.work.address    IPSEC ID  blah   IPec secret xyz123 Xauth username me   Domain LONDON  Xauth interactive15:57
NET||abusebut when i open the NM applet to config a cisco vpn, i don tsee the right field names for those options15:58
NET||abusei see gateway, username password, group name, group password16:00
NET||abuseadvanced has some other stuff, but still not the same fields at all16:00
NET||abusenothing "IPSec" related16:00
NafalloNET||abuse: network-manager-openconnect-gnome is the package you want. It's not just IPSEC, it's also Cisco AnyConnect.16:06
NET||abuseNafallo: i already have that installed.16:16
NET||abusetrying to configure it, there's no fields for IPSec secred, or ID or anything16:18
NET||abuseDOMAIN16:18
NET||abuseuser16:18
Nafallothe gateway should provide that dialog when you use the right address, surely?16:26
Nafalloat least it looks like so in my config.16:26
NET||abuseNafallo: that's an ssl vpn, this is an ipsec config i'm trying to get working? no?17:10
* penguin42 used to just run vpnc manually I think17:21
diddledanI use network-manager-l2tp-gnome along with libreswan (it defaults to installing strongswan which was wonky for me). although that's for an ipsec+l2tp tunnel - if you're just using ipsec alone then no idea17:24
penguin42fortunately we switched to openvpn at work so that solved itself17:26
diddledanpeople usually opt for l2tp/ipsec because it works ootb on windows and macos17:33
diddledanokie, exspurts, how do I get loonicks to output the console to a usb serial adapter?19:47
penguin42hmm, I suspect console=ttyUSB0 doesn't work unless you build a kernel with the usb serial and usb adapters compiled in19:48
diddledanyeah, I tried that but nada19:49
diddledanI'm trying to get logs of a crash/hang related to intel gfx on my macbook using the ubuntu "mainline kernel" ppa19:49
daftykinsso which kernel upon which release?19:50
diddledanI'm testing 4.16.0-rc1 right now19:51
diddledanand buntu 17.1019:51
daftykinseww19:53
daftykinsdefinitely reckon it's kernel level eh? not some other layer o' the stack19:56
penguin42if the network falls off then it's probably kernel19:57
diddledanfairly sure, yeah: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/174867819:59
lubotu3Ubuntu bug 1748678 in linux (Ubuntu) "Intel graphics timeout, possibly caused wifi network to fail" [Medium,Confirmed]19:59
brobostigon:1220:00
brobostigonsorry20:00
diddledanI was gonna say the exact thing20:00
penguin42daftykins: How easily can you get it to fail?20:15
diddledannot easily at all20:16
daftykinseasy, it's a mac - it does it by design ;D20:16
daftykinsdidn't see talk of network prior20:16
diddledanit's only a 13 incher so it's not "too big to fail"20:17
penguin42steam rollers it....20:17
zmoylan-pimaybe you're networking it wrong... :-P20:20
penguin42diddledan: I wonder if efi pstore works/is safe on macs20:20
diddledanlol @ email to full-disclosure - referring to the mozilla updater exe: "this 306kB "large" program is an UPX-compressed 7-zip self-extractor of whopping 394kB size, which contains a single "setup-stub.exe" of 406kB size"20:21
diddledanpstore?20:22
penguin42diddledan: It's a kernel feature that lets you store kernel oops/errors into teh EFI non-volatile memory20:22
diddledanaah, no idea20:22
penguin42diddledan: Some early uEFIs didn't take too well to it filling up though20:22
