FurretUberThere are files on a NTFS partition which aren't opening on LibreOffice. It says the permissions are denied, but I'm sure I have permission to edit that file, as I could edit it with gedit02:05
donofrioso I got 18.04 installed on my desktop https://apaste.info/PqNs and this is what I see (skipunneededonedrivelogin https://1drv.ms/f/s!AsBlZbBf72iNoL9DBu6LKTujNlKZ8g) how do I get the video cards to not be redirected all the time....I have a quadhead radion that not only is crazy to get the placement of the four displays but they keep redirecting and disabling sometimes all by themselves when the card is not broken the monitors all 03:21
donofriowork like they do in windows just ugh....spent last hour just moving display 4 infront of display one buyt you cant just move it they all have to be "touching??03:21
donofrioif you set it to Normal roation instead of left then no margins are between the displays and everything just works, only does this crazyness when they are all set to Left03:25
donofrionotice how you cannot see Sarah face.....03:27
donofrioOdd_Bloke, you still about?03:40
donofrioalkisg, you still around and have a moment to review my weirdvideo03:41
tfgbd_How do I turn off the accererometer?03:47
tfgbd_Everything seems to work but bluetooth and the touchscreen03:47
tfgbd_The accererometer works in the opposite way it is supposed to03:47
tfgbd_When I hold it in portrait it rotates to landscape and vice versa03:47
donofrioanyone here use monitors rotated "Left?"05:22

flocculantmorning lotuspsychje :)07:34
TJ-g'morning :)07:34
lotuspsychjehey flocculant :p07:34
flocculantlotuspsychje: do you see odd flashing text at the grub screen? 07:35
flocculantor indeed anyone else ;)07:35
lotuspsychjeflocculant: no07:35
flocculantsigh 07:35
lotuspsychjebionic desktop running neat here07:35
flocculantanother one of thos flocculant is the only one to see things then :D07:35
lotuspsychjehaha07:36
flocculantoh it runs fine - just grub is screwed up a bit lol07:36
TJ-flocculant: is it because GRUB is in graphics mode?07:36
flocculantTJ-: no idea 07:36
TJ-Sometimes see that when the firmware doesn't support mode-changes correctly07:36
flocculanthttps://launchpadlibrarian.net/357858777/grub.mp407:36
flocculantis moving about in the menu07:36
lotuspsychjewow thats weird07:37
flocculantyup 07:37
lotuspsychjeat grub, graphics card cant be affected yet right?07:37
TJ-flocculant: is that in a virtual machine ?07:37
flocculantTJ-:  that is 07:37
TJ-flocculant: thought so :) which hypervisor?07:37
flocculanthttps://launchpadlibrarian.net/356178167/grub_menu.mp407:38
lotuspsychjeafter grub you dont have those lags anymore?07:38
lotuspsychjei got those flickers all over on xorg07:39
flocculantTJ-: last one is hardware where it just flashes when left alone, but the 'vm' vid is an accurate representation of what I see on hardware if I move about07:39
lotuspsychjeon my old ati desktop07:39
flocculantlotuspsychje: fine after grub :007:39
lotuspsychjeso weird07:39
flocculantjust looks rather rubbish - but if it's just me then I can cope :)07:39
TJ-flocculant: EFI firmware, or BIOS?07:39
flocculantTJ-: bios07:39
flocculantprobably some abstract bug relying on a very specific set of hardware07:41
TJ-flocculant: in the 2nd video of the actual PC, you notice the PC's firmware logo is still top-right before GRUB asks BIOS to clear screen so it can draw it's menu... it looks like the BIOS there isn't correctly reseting it's idea of the console. Put GRUB into text-mode console and it'll be fine.07:41
TJ-flocculant: I've seen that alot in BIOS firmware where they no longer care about correctly implementing VGA graphics modes07:42
flocculantTJ-: ok - but then the vm is set to however qemu does it's defaults afaik07:42
flocculantTJ-: also I'm not particularly worried about me - more if it's likely to be seen by people installing 18.04 for 5 years :D07:43
TJ-flocculant: the 1st example was a different issue; that looked to me like a hypervisor screen-scaling issue, which I've seen before. I seem to recall there were issues with the seabios firmware for QEMU at one time that would exhibit that in some GFX modes07:43
flocculantTJ-: ack - finally - didn't see this a while ago - think it appeared post a grub update07:44
TJ-flocculant: in your 2nd video you can clearly see at the bottom of the screen the font mapping has changed, and the screen has effectively shrunk so it ends earlier due to the new font being not so tall as the one being used.07:44
TJ-flocculant: and presumably the firmware didn't think to blank the screen when redrawing with the newer, not-so-tall font07:45
TJ-I've never understood why GRUB is put into GFX mode at all; it's not like it's needed, and it only introduces problems. For the time it's on screen when you need it you want reliable, not pretty/fancy07:46
lotuspsychjeflocculant: did you try this on physical install instead of vm?07:46
TJ-lotuspsychje: 2nd video is on physical07:47
flocculantlotuspsychje: the wobbly video is hardware :D07:47
lotuspsychjeah sorry07:47
flocculantI'll point will cooke at it - if they can replicate it and care it'll get done before release I guess07:48
lotuspsychjeflocculant: tested the same on other iso's?07:51
flocculantI have a purple version ;)07:51
lotuspsychjelike xenial07:51
flocculantno need - I know what was ok, also this has happened 'during' this dev cycle - was fine before I reported it at beginning of Feb07:52
lotuspsychjekk07:52
flocculantTJ- lotuspsychje - thanks regardless of the outcome :)07:56
lotuspsychjeflocculant: ill test if i can reproduce on my bionic machines next reboot07:57
flocculantlotuspsychje: okey doke08:03
feridotI have a few suggestions regarding the data collection proposal, is there a launchpad bug opened?09:32
feridot1) use a tor onion service to guarantee the user's ip remains private and to authenticate the server endpoint (so for example a CA cant issue their own certificate and impersonate ubuntu.com and collect user data)09:39
feridot2) use an appropriate differential privacy algorithm to give individuals privacy in the dataset as a whole https://github.com/menisadi/awesome-differential-privacy09:41

FurretUberRegarding the grub menu with the graphical error, I'm having this issue too. It's slightly different: https://youtu.be/wKUBOAx73k414:17
FurretUberIt's on a physical machine14:18
FurretUberAnd there is a LibreOffice bug I've found, I think it can cause a lot of problems (at least it caused to me): https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/175070714:20
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1750707 in libreoffice (Ubuntu) "LibreOffice says permission was denied to open a file in a NTFS partition, even with it having permission" [Undecided,New]14:20

FurretUbernacc: may you look at a intel-gpu-tools bug I've reported? After I've reported it it's shown on the top of the page "The information on this page is private." (if you are allowed to see this bug, of course). Thank you15:05
flocculantFurretUber: thanks - also nice to see someone I don't know about using xubuntu 18.04 :)15:23
naccFurretUber: i can look, link (feel free to PM me)16:12
naccFurretUber: although if it's a private bug, no one can see the contents without permission16:12
donofrioI rebulit my right desktop last two hours - tinyurl.com/donofrio1804 - did anyone have any answers as to how to get the four monitors to touch each side even when Roation set to Left...right now it only seems happy when Rotatio set to Normal ;(16:59
donofrionow I'm at work 1804 on both desktop's using wsl and windows 10 1709 build ;)17:00
donofriohere id what I'm seeing in basement quad head 1804 install (why are monitor thumbnails "soooooooooooo tiny???" https://1drv.ms/f/s!AsBlZbBf72iNoL9ItcW_0KHPpAodIA17:04
Odd_Blokedonofrio: That's not the monitor configuration screen I see; how are you getting to that?17:24
Odd_Bloke(Are you running Ubuntu 18.04, or a flavour?)17:24
donofrio18.0417:27
donofrioand that is the "Displays" applet from system settings17:27
donofriogoing from photo and memory cause I'm at work right now17:27
donofriomate I think is the variant (wanted pure xfce4 but of well...figure they should all work basically the same)17:28
=== czesmir_ is now known as czesmir
Odd_BlokeOK, if you're using MATE then IHNI.17:29
donofriohow do I turn off the mandatory north north magnet like repulsion for a display to be near a display when in Rotate Left orientation 17:29
Odd_BlokeIt WFM on regular old Ubuntu.17:29
donofriodidn't want mate just grabbed the daily offering and wrote it to usb key and bulit it last night17:30
donofriowfm (whole foods market?)17:30
Odd_BlokeWorks For Me.17:30
donofriomy rebuilt desktop at work is going great with 18.04 in wsl on windows 10 build 1709 (tinyurl.com/donofrio1804) very cool.....thank you all for helping me and for listening to my ramblings17:31
donofrioOdd_Bloke, are you portrate or landscape (seems to snap the display together when set to landscape/normal but repells them when set to Left Rotation17:32
Odd_Blokedonofrio: https://photos.app.goo.gl/57l10WkB0YCOYpJp217:33
Odd_BlokeBut it could just be a MATE bug, not an all-of-Ubuntu bug.17:33
Odd_Bloke(I'm not really sure how bugs in MATE etc. are handled.)17:34
donofrioI've installed xfce* and it still doesn that but *only* in "Left" Orientation its fine in "Normal" mode.17:37
donofriooh i didn't try in that control panel....what happens when both are left for your setup?17:38
FurretUberdonofrio: I've tried to use one monitor on my notebook (that's what I have available now): https://i.imgur.com/nMKcUIX.png17:45
donofrioFurretUber, 18.04?  not xfce4 what variant is that install?17:47
donofriooh and how would I go about using the "Arrow Keys" or some keys to move the displays around (what happens/how do you deal with) what happens when you have 32 displays.....ugh....17:48
FurretUberIt's Xubuntu 18.0417:48
flocculantdonofrio: have you reported bug yet? 17:52
donofriono not yet, just wanted to find someone else that encountered it so I know it's not just me...I'll check my memory stick to see what ubuntu 18.04 varient I installed first thing when I get home tonight17:53
alkisgdonofrio: rm .config/monitors.xml => remove your settings, then use only xrandr to arrange monitors => that then is DE agnostic, is doesn't matter if you use mate or anything else18:13
donofrioalkisg, thanks I'll try that in five hours18:47
