The previous install of the same version worked just fine, i even ran updates in hopes that the issue resolves itself, no such luck however. Is there some special driver i m [09:44] ight need for the Logitech G933 wireless headset or anything like that? [09:45] Chandler_Vercett, do you happen to work at Best Buy? [09:45] um.. no [09:45] ok [09:45] why? [09:46] just confused you with another dude [09:46] ah [09:47] Chandler_Vercett, maybe you should install some sort of firmware drivers for your system [09:47] look in driver manager [09:49] you talking about aditional drivers in control center or something else [09:52] Chandler_Vercett, something like that yes [09:52] Chandler_Vercett: i have a different headset (turtle beach) and one thing i know is it only likes a certain type of input. if uncompressed pcm, non-audio bit has to be unset on the iec958 frames. if it's e.g. dolby digital then it *has* to have the non-audio bit else it tries to decode it as pcm, and sounds like static garbage [09:52] the only things i get is the driver for my GPU and CPU microcode firmware [09:53] Chandler_Vercett: maybe pull open the audio settings and try various output configs e.g. analog stereo output or digital (iec958) output [09:55] m4t i only get one output option, just Logitech G933 Gaming Wireless Analog Stereo [09:55] ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ [09:55] sorry [09:56] is that all u had to do to get your headset working? [09:57] on my other laptop which is running the same distro, it works just fine with no issues at all [09:57] both systems are running 16.04.3 [09:58] no i had to modify the driver to set different configuration registers on the chipset lol [09:58] in order to play digital. cuz the non-audio bit was static [09:59] hmm [09:59] but yours seems to work elsewhere fine so i dunno [09:59] usb connected right? [09:59] i don't even get the slightest bit of sound, just static [10:00] yes [10:00] works great under windows 7 [10:00] sound from which application? [10:00] anything? [10:00] system wide [10:00] everything is static [10:01] i guess you could check which sample rate it's trying to use [10:01] how would i do that? [10:01] the audio control panel is quite limited [10:02] uhm maybe try find /proc/asound -name stream0 [10:02] it might have that [10:02] if you cat it it shows supported sample rates and current sample rate [10:02] maybe compare the 2 on working and non-working linux systems [10:04] i guess another thing to try would be to launch alsamixer (from alsa-utils pkg) and mess with the settings there [10:05] e.g. press 'm' to mute/unmute [10:05] various controls [10:05] it might not have a mixer though, in which case that wouldn't let you see the card [10:07] nothing for my headset is muted in alsamixer [10:08] which controls does it give that are *not* volume controls. some are just mute/unmute [10:08] but i'd check the stream0 thing [10:08] or stream1 potentially [10:09] i'd compare what you see there with another working linux system [10:10] i'll give it a look [10:10] k [10:12] works perfectly on that system, fresh untouched install as well [10:12] no crackling at all [10:17] m4t everything looks the same across both systems [10:17] check dmesg for clues? try different usb ports? [10:18] oooh! [10:18] it works [10:18] i think it doesn't like my USB 3 bus [10:19] ah [10:19] cool [10:19] which is odd because my storage drive is connected through said ports [10:19] i've got a usb sound interface that doesn't work right on usb3 but works fine on usb2 [10:19] hmm [10:19] odd [10:19] yea i dunno [10:21] problem is i only have 2 usb 2.0 ports on my motherboard excluding the ones at the front of my case [10:21] hub? [10:23] don't have one, i'll just move my keyboard over to the USB 3, it's working on there [10:25] yep, that was the issue, i moved my reciever base's cable to a USB 2 port and that fixed it [10:26] awesome, that helps a lot, now i just gotta figure out why VMWare workstation isn't installing properly [10:26] thank you though for the tips [10:27] np [10:28] i am off, good night/morning everyone === tristan is now known as Guest81525 [13:52] yo, I have a problem: mozilla keeps crashing... please help === Guest81525 is now known as Kyle === Kyle is now known as sam-Blueman [13:55] yo, I have a problem: mozilla keeps crashing... please help [14:03] yo someone connected [14:04] sam-Blueman, pi? [14:06] anyone know of a multi miner cpu/gpu for cryptonight-lite [17:37] hmm having some sort (while i am on a nightly build atm it did happen before i clean formatted 17.10 too) issue with Xorg where i get auto-logged out back to the welcome screen (logging back in, always wants to send an error report repated to Xorg) ... THOUGHT it was related to installing/removing snaps since that is when it use to only happen, now it happened again and I wasn't doing anything with snaps [17:52] hi im trying to find an application like spotnet or spotlite for ubuntu mate [17:52] Boyette, what does it do? [17:53] its to connect to usenetservers [17:54] usenet providers [17:55] so i need a usenetclient [17:55] hmm maybe sabnzbd [17:59] hmm this xorg (?? still dont 100% know whats going on, but it seems to be related to xorg crashing, as I said) thing has me curios [18:12] Hey! New to Linux, and Im not sure if this is the right place to ask. I think I might have a BIOS-virus or a rootkit [18:13] Im on a laptop. Removing my BIOS would be very difficult [18:13] Anything I can do to fix/solve this? [18:13] why do you think that [18:13] daniel_, who told you that you have a bios virus? [18:14] Thing is, Im not sure, but I strongly suspect it. Long story. However, the only solution would be to fix this [18:14] People I know who do this type of shit have been near my pc [18:15] I dont know, its not relevant. But how do I make sure I dont have it/remove it? Ive updated my bios, though. [18:15] daniel_, lenovo? [18:16] Both a HP pavilion and a lenovo [18:20] i think if u update ur bios u get rid of it .. those viruses are kind of high tech.. unlikely you have that on a random laptop [18:20] thats reassuring to hear. I really hope so [18:21] My Lenovo (lost $140 on the warrenty, but at least THAT got me my $699 back) got bit by that BIOS issue that was in the news a few months ago [18:21] lenovo has a history of bringing malicious content [18:22] I would not recommend lenovo to anyone who wants to run linux, [18:22] just format it all before you use it [18:22] even for windows I'd never buy it [18:22] what type of BIOS issue, xmetal? the built in adware/spyware? [18:22] or security vulnurability (aka for hackers) [18:22] ? [18:22] ... hackers? [18:23] yeah, thats what im asking about [18:23] trying to protect my pc from hackers [18:23] note that it happened to me before any 17.10 release was even in alpha mode ... by MONTHS ... https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2017/12/ubuntu-corrupting-lenovo-laptop-bios (picked link at random) [18:24] and the only way I guess my linux would be hacked, would be if i had a bios virus. i dont download anything/dont visit shady sites [18:24] so it has more to do with ppl have been around my pc or hacked it remotely [18:25] like i said before as soon as (I think it was pope y .... space before the Y so i dont ping him, unnecessarily) that mentioned it after an episode of LUP .. I nstatnky knew that is what happened to me [18:25] o_O @ so much "hacking" [18:27] yeah, my obsession with all this shit has gone too far. but it has happened [18:27] by people ive had contact with [18:27] again, not relevant for all this [18:27] daniel_, why don't you sell your pc and buy a new one? [18:28] yeah, thats probably the best to do [18:28] thank you all for info and suggestions. ill stick around, if anyone knows more about this, just write [18:29] ill stick around later* gtg for a while [18:29] not everything that "goes wrong" with a system means "it was hacked!" [18:29] btw, how does this chat work? is everything deleted after a while? [18:29] @diogenes im using sabnzbd now but after installation it runs like some chrome addon.. what i dont like :P [18:32] or is this logged forever? [18:32] ah, nvm, got it [18:33] Boyette, some chrome addons you can run as styandalone apps [18:33] standalone [18:38] well i think its not supposed to be a chrome addon but it behaves like that [18:38] https://sabnzbd.org/wiki/ [18:39] but i dont understand why [20:59] hi [21:00] hi [21:00] hi [21:01] from? [21:02] NL [21:02] DE [21:02] i know [21:02] were? [21:03] ipconnect.de [21:04] ahh [21:05] nice..
