Kali_Yugahello there should be an option 'get new looks': https://www1.xup.in/exec/ximg.php?fid=10474254. apparently it's missing on mine https://www1.xup.in/exec/ximg.php?fid=19832668 running kcmshell5 kcm_lookandfeel00:33
Kali_Yugaresults in https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/SDk8hCbDP2/00:33
Kali_Yugamaybe it's my version 5.8.9..?00:36
valorieKali_Yuga: which version of kubuntu?00:40
Kali_Yuga16.0400:41
Kali_Yugawith backports ppa00:41
valorieI have two available for me in plasma 5.12.300:41
valoriecould be, yes00:41
valoriehave you tried the download button to get more choices?00:41
valorie"get new looks"00:42
Kali_Yugathat button is missing on mine00:42
valorieoh right00:43
valorieI only clicked on your first link, sorry00:43
Kali_Yugarunning00:44
Kali_Yugakcmshell5 kcm_lookandfeel results in https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/SDk8hCbDP2/00:44
valoriewhen you click down though, can you get desktop, cursor, etc.?00:44
Kali_Yugayes I can get a new theme there00:45
valoriepossibly that kcm has been remade in the nearly 2 years since 16.04 was released00:45
valoriethat's one of the issues with running an LTS00:45
Kali_Yugathats why i added the backports ppa to get a more recent version.00:46
valorieright, but we can only do that in specific instances where things still work together00:47
valoriewe won't backport things we can't test and find successful00:48
valorieyou'll be able to upgrade to the next LTS this summer00:49
valorieor even late spring00:49
Kali_Yugaso why exaclty is this feature missing00:49
valoriewhenever 18.04.1 comes out00:49
valorieplasma relies on kde frameworks00:50
Kali_Yugaif it;s not to buggy00:50
valorieso it's not a matter of just backporting plasma00:50
valorieat a certain point it's just not workable00:50
valoriewe have an all volunteer crew here00:50
valorieand if it is a choice between patching stuff to work on the old LTS or working on the next one, guess what wins?00:51
valoriethis is why I use LTS only for testing and always run current or the next version00:52
valorieI like new stuff00:52
Kali_YugaI think old software is sometimes more stable less buggy00:52
valorieit's always a balancing act, yeah00:52
Kali_Yugaso why exactly was this feature missing? because of the lts or a bug?00:54
valorieno idea really00:55
valorieit looks like a new design to me00:55
valoriebut really, no clue00:55

lordievaderHow did you install the nvidia driver? Both nvidia and nouveau are loaded.14:28
IrcsomeBot<Wattana Gaming> I install it using the driver manager14:29
lordievaderHmm, that should blacklist nouveau14:31
lordievaderFollow these instructions: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia14:31
IrcsomeBot<Wattana Gaming> ok I have followed the instructions. what to do now?14:36
lordievaderDid you reboot?14:41
IrcsomeBot<Wattana Gaming> ok i have rebooted14:46
IrcsomeBot<Wattana Gaming> still didnt fix 😞14:48

xaeB5if i want both kde and non-kde packages to be recent, would kubuntu be a better option than kde-neon?17:40
BluesKajkde-neon might be more current, but less stable17:41
xaeB5more stable in what way? doesn't stability in the linux world mean fewer updates?17:42
BluesKajxaeB5, no17:44
xaeB5ok, that's what it means in debian at least17:44
BluesKajthis isn't a debate, if you want to try neon do so w17:44
BluesKajwe don't support it here17:45
IrcsomeBot<Wattana Gaming> who's having the same glitched font as me? https://imgur.com/oYjqUjghttps://imgur.com/oYjqUjg17:45
xaeB5you don't seem to understand my question because you're making assumptions like "try neon" when i am already using neon17:46
xaeB5i didn't ask for neon support, did i17:46
xaeB5i asked for clarification on what you mean by "less stable" because i've never had stability issues with neon or kubuntu both17:47
BluesKajthen go ask in #kde-neon chat17:47
xaeB5ask what? about kubuntu?17:47
IrcsomeBot<Wattana Gaming> ok guys calm down i dont want any fighting to happen17:47
BluesKajwe don't compare them here , we support kubuntu17:48
xaeB5read my question again please. "would kubuntu be a better option". you want me to ask that in kde-neon? lol17:48
xaeB5then support kubuntu and answer the question. how is it more stable?17:48
BluesKajxaeB5, no need, we do polls here, try dual booting them and decide for yourself17:49
BluesKajdon't do polls rather17:49
xaeB5if there's no need to explain what your vague answer is supposed to mean, maybe you shouldn't have said it if you don't want any follow up questions17:49
xaeB5i am not taking polls17:49
IrcsomeBot<Wattana Gaming> now guys lemme explain: Kubuntu may be a bit older in KDE version but its more complete and have essential app to do whatever you want17:50
BluesKajdon't know how it's more stable, we just know that neon is more bleeding edge17:50
BluesKajbleeding edge generally means less stable17:51
xaeB5it could also be argued that kubuntu is more bleeding edge and therefore less stable. after all, it has newer non-kde packages than neon17:51
xaeB5so your answer didn't make sense17:51
IrcsomeBot<Wattana Gaming> so Kubuntu is the best choice for home users. But if you wanna just go and add PPAand download your own favortie app then go for neon17:51
* BluesKaj shrugs , well have fun whatever you do17:52
IrcsomeBot<Wattana Gaming> btw kubuntu is basicly ubuntu using kde plasma and other kde app so kubuntu = ubuntu17:52
BluesKajWattana Gaming, kubuntu is not ubuntu, not any more, it's now supported by Blue Systems17:56
IrcsomeBot<Wattana Gaming> Oh17:56
IrcsomeBot<Wattana Gaming> thx for correnting that17:56
BluesKajWattana Gaming, yw17:58
xaeB5kubuntu is an official ubuntu flavour though. https://www.ubuntu.com/download/flavours17:59
IrcsomeBot<Wattana Gaming> well anyway it based off ubuntu18:00
xaeB5same with neon18:00
xaeB5just not an official flavour18:00
IrcsomeBot<Wattana Gaming> and it need a user installed software. it only come with kde apps, no office suit or music player so... R.I.P. Mr. Neon lol18:01
BluesKajhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Systems18:01
xaeB5wattana: you do realize that kubuntu and neon have the same developers that work on both, right?18:03
IrcsomeBot<Wattana Gaming> Nani wtf? how did the said dev come out and make his/her own distro?18:04
viphi ho, anybody lost dual-display @ intel recently after apt upgrade?18:31
IrcsomeBot<Wattana Gaming> ...no? i use nvidia18:33
vipit works well under nvidia (i've got intel/nvidia inside)18:34
xaeB5you could check dmesg to see if there's any useful info there18:36
xaeB5dmesg | grep -i firmware for example18:36
IrcsomeBot<Wattana Gaming> im no kubuntu pro but i recommend use the nvidia card if you can. it often give out more FPS18:36
vipI suppose linux-* packages had broken something; when selecting previous kernel - dial display does not work either18:36
Mrokii_I've just noticed a strange phenomenon, with Cantata, the mpd client. When I ran a game via Steam, Cantata was muted (even though the timeline showed that the song was played). When I quit the game, Cantatas' sound was activated again. I tried Clementine for testing-purposes, and it played a song just fine with the Steam-game running. So that seems to be something specific to Cantata. Does anybody have any18:45
Mrokii_clue why the "muting" is happening?18:45
IrcsomeBot<Wattana Gaming> probably the same phenomenon as wine program mute any other media18:47
Mrokii_IrcsomeBot: I'm not sure, as the sound is only muted for Catana, but not for Clementine.18:49

schnoodlesAny idea the best way to work out why automounting is not working anymore? Was working for ages then for the last couple weeks (could be months) I need to mount myself through Dolphin.23:12
valorieautomounting of what, schnoodles?23:15
valoriedid your fstab maybe get over-written or corrupted?23:16
schnoodlesSorry automounting of a hdd. Its an internal harddrive but its not my main hdd.23:16
schnoodlesAs in not the SSD that the OS is on.23:16
valoriehmmm23:17
schnoodlesvalorie I am not quite sure. I remember it happened after a quite large update.23:17
valorieshould automount for sure23:17
valorie!fstab23:17
ubottuThe /etc/fstab file indicates how drive partitions are to be used or otherwise integrated into the file system. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Fstab and http://www.pclosmag.com/html/Issues/200709/page07.html and !Partitions23:17
schnoodlesI just use the Remote Devises section under system settings. It still says that the harddrive is set for automount however it does not mount. Which makes me think it could be an error where its not ready?23:18
schnoodlesdmesg shows me nothing though.23:18
valorienot ready or has the wrong permissions set23:18
valoriesomething somehow could have flipped that bit23:18
valorieI imagine the above two links will help you diagnose23:19
schnoodlesYeah it seems fstab has been overwritten and the System Settings section is not writing to fstab. I wonder if that is a new bug.23:23
valoriehmmm23:23
valoriewell, gotta go for awhile23:24
schnoodlesCya. Thanks for the help23:24
valorieI think this calls for bugs.kde.org against systemsettings23:24
valorieif it is a bug23:24
schnoodlesI run backports. Could be a new bug in backports ?23:25
valorieI don't think this is our packaging because you are the first to ask about this -- at least here23:25
