=== kubuntu is now known as Guest29844 [00:33] hello there should be an option 'get new looks': https://www1.xup.in/exec/ximg.php?fid=10474254. apparently it's missing on mine https://www1.xup.in/exec/ximg.php?fid=19832668 running kcmshell5 kcm_lookandfeel [00:33] results in https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/SDk8hCbDP2/ [00:36] maybe it's my version 5.8.9..? [00:40] Kali_Yuga: which version of kubuntu? [00:41] 16.04 [00:41] with backports ppa [00:41] I have two available for me in plasma 5.12.3 [00:41] could be, yes [00:41] have you tried the download button to get more choices? [00:42] "get new looks" [00:42] that button is missing on mine [00:43] oh right [00:43] I only clicked on your first link, sorry [00:44] running [00:44] kcmshell5 kcm_lookandfeel results in https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/SDk8hCbDP2/ [00:44] when you click down though, can you get desktop, cursor, etc.? [00:45] yes I can get a new theme there [00:45] possibly that kcm has been remade in the nearly 2 years since 16.04 was released [00:45] that's one of the issues with running an LTS [00:46] thats why i added the backports ppa to get a more recent version. [00:47] right, but we can only do that in specific instances where things still work together [00:48] we won't backport things we can't test and find successful [00:49] you'll be able to upgrade to the next LTS this summer [00:49] or even late spring [00:49] so why exaclty is this feature missing [00:49] whenever 18.04.1 comes out [00:50] plasma relies on kde frameworks [00:50] if it;s not to buggy [00:50] so it's not a matter of just backporting plasma [00:50] at a certain point it's just not workable [00:50] we have an all volunteer crew here [00:51] and if it is a choice between patching stuff to work on the old LTS or working on the next one, guess what wins? [00:52] this is why I use LTS only for testing and always run current or the next version [00:52] I like new stuff [00:52] I think old software is sometimes more stable less buggy [00:52] it's always a balancing act, yeah [00:54] so why exactly was this feature missing? because of the lts or a bug? [00:55] no idea really [00:55] it looks like a new design to me [00:55] but really, no clue [07:03] Good morning === tarator85 is now known as tarator === TomTom_ is now known as TomTom === nameless is now known as Guest87530 [10:30] Hi folks [14:10] Wattana Gaming was added by: Wattana Gaming [14:11] hi everyone i have trouble scrolling in kubuntu [14:11] the scrolling is terribly slow in kde app but any other app is normal === himcesjf_ is now known as him-cesjf [14:14] Wattana: What is the output of `sudo lspci -k`? [14:29] I install it using the driver manager [14:31] Hmm, that should blacklist nouveau [14:31] Follow these instructions: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia [14:36] ok I have followed the instructions. what to do now? [17:41] kde-neon might be more current, but less stable [17:42] more stable in what way? doesn't stability in the linux world mean fewer updates? [17:44] xaeB5, no [17:44] ok, that's what it means in debian at least [17:44] this isn't a debate, if you want to try neon do so w [17:45] we don't support it here [17:45] who's having the same glitched font as me? https://imgur.com/oYjqUjghttps://imgur.com/oYjqUjg [17:46] you don't seem to understand my question because you're making assumptions like "try neon" when i am already using neon [17:46] i didn't ask for neon support, did i [17:47] i asked for clarification on what you mean by "less stable" because i've never had stability issues with neon or kubuntu both [17:47] then go ask in #kde-neon chat [17:47] ask what? about kubuntu? [17:47] ok guys calm down i dont want any fighting to happen [17:48] we don't compare them here , we support kubuntu [17:48] read my question again please. "would kubuntu be a better option". you want me to ask that in kde-neon? lol [17:48] then support kubuntu and answer the question. how is it more stable? [17:49] xaeB5, no need, we do polls here, try dual booting them and decide for yourself [17:49] don't do polls rather [17:49] if there's no need to explain what your vague answer is supposed to mean, maybe you shouldn't have said it if you don't want any follow up questions [17:49] i am not taking polls [17:50] now guys lemme explain: Kubuntu may be a bit older in KDE version but its more complete and have essential app to do whatever you want [17:50] don't know how it's more stable, we just know that neon is more bleeding edge [17:51] bleeding edge generally means less stable [17:51] it could also be argued that kubuntu is more bleeding edge and therefore less stable. after all, it has newer non-kde packages than neon [17:51] so your answer didn't make sense [17:51] so Kubuntu is the best choice for home users. But if you wanna just go and add PPAand download your own favortie app then go for neon [17:52] * BluesKaj shrugs , well have fun whatever you do [17:52] btw kubuntu is basicly ubuntu using kde plasma and other kde app so kubuntu = ubuntu [17:56] Wattana Gaming, kubuntu is not ubuntu, not any more, it's now supported by Blue Systems [17:56] Oh [17:56] thx for correnting that [17:58] Wattana Gaming, yw [17:59] kubuntu is an official ubuntu flavour though. https://www.ubuntu.com/download/flavours [18:00] well anyway it based off ubuntu [18:00] same with neon [18:00] just not an official flavour [18:01] and it need a user installed software. it only come with kde apps, no office suit or music player so... R.I.P. Mr. Neon lol [18:01] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Systems [18:03] wattana: you do realize that kubuntu and neon have the same developers that work on both, right? [18:33] ...no? i use nvidia [18:34] it works well under nvidia (i've got intel/nvidia inside) [18:36] you could check dmesg to see if there's any useful info there [18:36] dmesg | grep -i firmware for example [18:36] im no kubuntu pro but i recommend use the nvidia card if you can. it often give out more FPS [18:36] I suppose linux-* packages had broken something; when selecting previous kernel - dial display does not work either [18:45] I've just noticed a strange phenomenon, with Cantata, the mpd client. When I ran a game via Steam, Cantata was muted (even though the timeline showed that the song was played). When I quit the game, Cantatas' sound was activated again. I tried Clementine for testing-purposes, and it played a song just fine with the Steam-game running. So that seems to be something specific to Cantata. Does anybody have any [18:45] clue why the "muting" is happening? [18:47] probably the same phenomenon as wine program mute any other media [18:49] IrcsomeBot: I'm not sure, as the sound is only muted for Catana, but not for Clementine. === Mrokii_ is now known as Mrokii [19:00] Hi I'm under bionics and I can not find discover [19:00] What's the deb paquet file [19:01] im no expert but you should not even upgrade to that version as it is still in beta stage [19:01] I'll try to find it [19:02] OK I found sudo apt install plasma-discover [19:03] did it work? … btw i found the deb @ https://pkgs.org/download/plasma-discover [19:03] @Wattana Gaming yes it's [19:04] @Wattana Gaming Thanks [19:04] yw [19:08] ok, I need to apt instal --reinstall intel microcode package to get dual display back on intel [19:17] congrats === N3X15_ is now known as N3X15 [21:28] yikes, people downloading software from random sites.... Was working for ages then for the last couple weeks (could be months) I need to mount myself through Dolphin. [23:15] automounting of what, schnoodles? [23:16] did your fstab maybe get over-written or corrupted? [23:16] Sorry automounting of a hdd. Its an internal harddrive but its not my main hdd. [23:16] As in not the SSD that the OS is on.
