[08:17] morning boys and girls [08:33] Morning all [08:33] Even after discussing reboots, still forgot to logout of my irssi session yesterday :D [08:35] morning [08:41] morning === ging_ is now known as ging [11:31] this chan is down to about 10 active users now :( [11:32] maybe we should all move to discord [11:32] people went somewhere. [11:33] People just don't want to use irc any more [11:33] is there ubuntu community anymore? [11:33] I think so [11:33] where? [11:33] I've been on and off IRC for years, I think it's really slowed in the last 2! [11:33] The thing is, unless you run a server, you don't have a permanent connection to IRC, so you miss all the messages while you're offline [11:34] That's not always a bad thing! :) [11:34] slack provided a lot of features irc should have done 5 yrs ago [11:34] i realise its not so open, so OSS projects won't move there. [11:34] true that [11:35] but the u-uk ppl must have gone somewhere [11:35] or did mid-life just happen to them? [11:37] I still lurk [11:38] probs midlife [11:39] There's nothing like a baby to sap away any free time you had. [11:39] and your brain cells [11:40] * Gargoyle nods [11:40] i also think , people get new jobs, change of scene, forget to sign in, then never go back [11:40] a lot used to lurk as a way to get in touch. now there's twitter/whatsapp [11:41] but the u-uk podcast ppl used to be active in here , which isn't true anymore [12:08] the ubuntu podcast telegram is active with a few folk. that's mostly where popey is these days [12:08] i haven't used telegram [12:08] [FACT] [12:08] is it a phone only thing? [12:08] no. [12:09] is it like whatsapp? [12:09] what's the uupc channel? [12:09] Would there be much scope in Ubuntu having a discord or slack channel [12:10] Ubuntu has a discord [12:10] and slack [12:10] community chat or support? [12:10] Are they more active than irc? [12:10] depends which one you're asking about. :) [12:11] either/or [12:11] slack, no. there are more topic based slacks [12:11] the ubuntu slack isn't used at all. [12:11] the ubuntu discord is lightly used. [12:11] seems i need to install telegram on android before signing up [12:11] AI analysed the hitchhikers' guide and this was the intuited response: https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/j8QR41o5/image.png [12:12] telegram is indeed mobile first, [12:12] telegram is way more active for me. I am in a ton of them, and use it as a primary means of comms for lots of things [12:12] slack, I am in about 20 slacks, of which only 5 are active [12:12] can u suggest some useful telgram chans pls? i'll try it out [12:12] https://ubuntupodcast.org/telegram [12:13] ^ +1 [12:13] 655 members :o [12:13] :) [12:13] most are silent lurkers [12:13] the new irc [12:13] effin lurkers [12:13] I lurk in the elementary os slack, bad voltage slack and some others [12:14] ooh, I'm not in bad voltage [12:14] I have one entire screen dedicated to irc, slack and telegram [12:14] haha [12:14] that's where you need a tiling window manager for that screen [12:15] I just use CTRL+ALT+ numkeys to make Unity push them to the corners [12:15] :-o [12:18] weirdly didn't show up on global search. invite via the url only [12:18] yeah [12:18] didnt stop 656 people from finding it thuogh [12:21] most found it via the invite url [12:21] that we mention on the podcast and link to on the web page [12:21] we have to be careful because spammers find it, and join [12:22] and those bloomin iranis [14:39] You guys in the BV channel? popey / diddledan - if so, someone want to invite me ? [14:39] not I :-( [14:39] pm me your email address and I will [14:39] Ah is it email :) two secs [14:39] for slack, yeah [14:39] * diplo remembers PM on irssi :D [14:40] Ah it's only slack is it, thought they had a telegram channel [14:40] they did, but nobody wanted that, so we used slack [14:40] why can't everyone settle on just one system?! [14:40] Ah ok, shall sign up to slack, kept away until now, but won't hurt [14:40] diddledan: IRC!?!? [14:40] :D [14:41] https://community.badvoltage.org/t/realtime-chat-with-bad-voltage-listeners/11443/32?u=popey [14:41] thats how you join it [14:41] https://badvoltage-slack.herokuapp.com/ is the direct link [15:24] sup guys [16:04] so, erm, daftykins .. yaknow how I said my thunderbolt only worked once I'd taken out the nvme. Well I did a firmware update on it to be sure it has the latest while I had it going, but now I've put everything back into PCIe (gfx + NVMe) it STILL BLOOMIN WORKS!! [16:04] did the firmware fix it or was it just removing and reconnecting everything that fixed it?! [16:05] .. or will it break again once I've boobed loonicks?! [17:47] diddledan: did think it a bit odd, you mean mobo BIOS or SSD firmware? [17:47] thunderbolt firmware [17:47] oic [17:48] it's definitely still working in Windows with all the hardware back in place where it was previously when it was broke [17:50] blame Cana... Loonix then, yesh! [17:50] * diddledan will tentatively reboob into loonix. brb [17:52] ok. let's see what lspci says [17:53] goodness me at the bit on Radio 2 at mid-day going on about Guernsey considering allowing assisted suicide [17:53] still working here too [17:54] mystery [17:54] honestly i've seen so many updates to the BIOSs and firmware on my machines that have thunderbolt, not surprised there were some kinks to work out [20:28] evening all [20:28] Any of you guys use hosted phone systems - IE only handsets on desk, they talk to the hosted service directly ? [20:57] not quite, but i did set up FreePBX at home and bought an old Linksys SPA3102 to convert my PSTN line into a full voicemail and IP phone driven setup [20:58] also planning on putting one in for a client so they can have free voice calls between their 3 properties, that'd only need to be internal extensions though, no proper VoIP service [21:00] I'm going to do freepbx at home at somepoint [21:01] Got a customer who can't get a display working, the "technical team" basically don't have a clue and say follow this guide, well the guides wrong :P [21:07] heh :D [21:07] when in doubt, factory reset \o/ [21:15] Basically the issue is, if anyone comes along, the phones work, but caller display doesn't work, I said what port does that use, they have no idea, they want me to forward all ports, these are 80/443 to the phones internally [21:15] I've nmapped the network, I've been told to open 5080/TCP, but that's closed on the phones, 5060/TCP is open, so hoping that is the fix [21:17] hmm mine are able to display the called passed along to the single SIP port from the FreePBX host, must be totally different [21:19] I think the technical team are just how to tinker with the phone, not how to set up routers, he was trying to not blame me whilst blaming me, yet not giving any answers :) [21:20] I'll do as they ask and then it's on them [21:23] :D [21:23] sounds like a plan [22:47] the great thing about a VoIP setup is you can record every call :-p [22:47] (easier) [22:48] :) [22:50] and this m'lud is the recording od diddledan when he ordered 30 rottweilers to be delivered forgetting he had signed up to amazon door service... :-P [22:51] xD [22:56] the cats in the second delivery were a mistake [22:57] the victor shall be crowned #1 pet [22:57] arriving home 2 weeks later with a pepperoni pizza was the mistake... [23:06] my 7 year old nephew is currently in France on a skiing holiday. The videos his dad keeps sharing on Facebook scare the bajeebers out of me every time [23:07] cor yeah, fancy using facebook (: [23:07] been chased down the ski slope by a giant yeti?!! :-) [23:07] no they left me here
