RoyKarooni: does mysql listen to IP other than localhost?13:39
Neo4Hi guys!13:52
Neo4What books do you suggest me to read for learn ubuntu server?13:53
Neo4I'm interesting VPS13:53
Neo4so far I've read 2 books, ubuntu official guid and the postfix https://www.amazon.com/Book-Postfix-State-Art-Transport/dp/1593270011/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1523195645&sr=8-1&keywords=the+book+of+postfix13:54
andolNeo4: https://debian-handbook.info/ is really good, and most of it applies (not surprisingly) to Ubuntu as well.13:54
Neo4andol: I'm going to read 20 books about programming or linux for now13:55
andolThat's a lot of reading :)13:55
Neo4andol: what do you offer, how to learn it without?13:56
Neo4reading is only way13:56
Neo4fast way13:56
andolReading is good, just as long as it's mixed with a bit of doing/experimenting.13:56
Neo4andol: about SSL about Apache Mysql13:56
Neo4LAMP13:56
Neo4there not muc applications that is interesting me, it's apache2, ssl, php, mysql, and mailserver, this is main13:57
Neo4some book about linux in general13:57
Neo4andol: Do you think this proverb will work (the more you read the more you'll know the more you  know the more places you'll go ) ????13:58
Neo4andol: If I read more will I know Linux?13:58
Neo4yes?13:58
Neo4will I know more if I read 20 books about VPS?13:59
andolWell, different people learn in different fashions.13:59
Neo4andol: really?13:59
andolYes.14:00
Neo4andol: but exists prover? Do you agree that is true that the more you read the more you'll know?14:00
Neo4andol: if I will read book 300 page per day I will know much?14:00
Neo4andol: Does reading speed influence on our knowledge?14:01
Neo4andol: what is relation between reading speed and your knowledge?14:01
Neo4maybe direct?14:02
* andol returns to writing code.14:02
Neo4andol: ok14:02
Neo4:)14:02
Neo4I don't know what to do, I know nothing :(14:02
Neo4strong lack knowledge :( :( :(14:03
andolSocrates would be proud of you :-)14:03
Neo4andol: He wouldn't, I'm stupid...14:04
Neo4andol: I think about start reading every day 50 - 100 pages? How many pages do you read everyday?14:04
Neo4andol: do you have some daylly minimal?14:05
Neo4technical books very easy read, especially about OS or linux, we could read 100 pages for 2 - 3 hours14:05
Neo4without training it might be 5 hours, but if do everyday it will 2 hours, on one page 1 minute14:06
Neo4ok, 2 minute for 1 page average speed, 100 pages, it's 120 minutes, and for 2 hours you can read, and I don't think it's big change for us?14:07
Neo4will in helpful?14:07
Neo4can it overall my illiteracy?14:08
Neo4overcome*14:09
MJCDHey all - anyone know a good gui for managing the standard lamp stack install from ubuntu?14:26
Neo4guys, what is relay?16:35
Neo4in postfix relay16:36
Neo4ti's when we send message from MUA to postfix and its resend it to MTA it is called relay?16:36
Neo4and there exists other way it's when we send message from so called 'localhost', it's machine where resized postfix.16:37
Neo4and I see postfix could only delivered message to localhost or send or relay?16:38
Neo4it has only 3 options of work?16:38
Neo41 deliver - put message to /var/mail16:39
Neo42 relay - send message from MUA or other MTA by SMTP16:39
Neo43 send - simply send message from localhost16:39
Neo4and there old book, and it is written that we can use SMTP AUTH, it's way when we install special set of package Curel SASL and it allows authendification over SMTP16:42
Neo4and for test postfix we could use 3 way:16:44
Neo41 send message using inner postfix sendmail (it's special inner utilit)16:44
Neo42 send message from command line, it will equal like we send from MUA16:44
Neo43 send using telnet, somethign like this telnet localhost 2516:44
Neo4we can test our settings without real test, simply using telnet, it will equal real like real request, for thsi we must know basics of SMTP protocol16:44
Neo4as you know postfix it's not one application, it's set of apps, there inside many daemons, Postfix linked them together16:46
Neo4and as I know we could use this /etc/init.d for start/stop applications in debian16:47
Neo4###/etc/init.d/postfix (start/stop) as welll as apply for others applications /etc/init.d/mysqll start/stop/restart or apache216:49
Neo4guys, who want I will teach you how postfix works, I've read books and have plethora  of knowledge :)16:50
Neo4we can compile postfix from source, why will it need?16:51
compdocpostfix is too complex for some things16:52
Neo4sometimes there is not all (types or formats) included, mysql, or something others. When we want support mysql and we checked (there exists special command that show list of supported data) and we don't see mysql16:53
compdocif you only need to send mail, like system notifications, nullmailer is a lot simpler16:53
Neo4we must load source, there should be some settings file, decomment line with mysql and using make do new16:54
Neo4compdoc: I need send mail from wp site16:54
Neo4wordpress site*16:54
Neo4compdoc: it's not much complex, there exists two files for settings, one has all variablees and other with tables, damouns or something simila16:55
Neo4first file with constants, second with supported data, we can on/off this data off/on demons16:55
Neo4compdoc: what do you use for send mail from site?16:56
compdocnullmailer16:56
Neo4compdoc: what does mean relay only transport agent?16:57
Neo4compdoc: it can only redirect message and can't send from localhost?16:58
Neo4http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/Nullmailer16:58
Neo4compdoc: can you site send message? Do you use it for VPS?16:58
Neo4compdoc: fast fast please :)16:58
Neo4ok, doesn't matter, I will use postfix anyway16:59
Neo4compdoc: do you know SSL?16:59
Neo4compdoc: I want to get this book, couldn't download for a while17:00
Neo4https://www.amazon.com/Bulletproof-SSL-TLS-Understanding-Applications/dp/1907117040/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1523204454&sr=8-2&keywords=openssl&dpID=41DKxOvK21L&preST=_SX258_BO1,204,203,200_QL70_&dpSrc=srch17:00
Neo4compdoc: is it ok if you give your father advise about SSL book? :) :) :)17:01
Neo4for full newbie17:01
Neo4from zero to master17:01
Neo4compdoc: I found that book, couldn't download http://gen.lib.rus.ec/book/index.php?md5=A675C4F9C2DBC89A677D9EF8D77939D817:02
Neo4Interestingly, what is difference between TLS and SSL17:03
Neo4transfer layer security and Secure socket layer, It always written like TLS/SSL that imply it should be equal things17:04
Neo4compdoc: are you lost?17:05
Neo4compdoc: sorry :(17:05
Neo4what books must read pro linux administrator?17:09
compdocNeo4, sometimes you have to try things to see if its right for you. if you have postfix working, go with that17:17
Neo4compdoc: ok :)17:18
LAN? local area network?17:51
Neo4что такое CID нотация?17:51
Neo4ip /8 /817:52
Neo4короче нету знаний :(17:52
Neo4sorry, confused channel :(18:05
tomreynalbech: i am in a simiar situation regarding (commercial) xenserver. my use case is a little different: need a solution which customers can use to manage virtualization on single (or a few pooled) dedicated servers (mini private cloud). management should nto require client software (i.e. provide web interface, if possible). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenNebula might be another option.18:38
albechtomreyn: yeah that is slightly different. will look at the opennebula again. did look at it some years ago.19:07
albechtomreyn: what is really the most important to us is that there is an active community and IRC around the project.19:13
tomreynalbech: i don't know the opennebula state there. ganeti is another option, but already too large for the single server use case.19:18
albechtomreyn: we do have several servers and SANs available, i just dont want to add too much complexity if its not really needed.19:20
albechwe have a couple of young admins who are really pushing for openstack, but i know who is going to save their a.. and work late nights when its not working as expected. ;)19:25
Seveas /win 3119:49
tomreynhehe, right, i would not want to do this with a small team and not overly filled budget either.19:52
TJ-tomreyn: am I missing something? Is libvirt/virt-manager not suitable?19:54
tomreynTJ-: neither are web interfaces19:55
tomreyni use them personally, but it's not end user firendly19:56
TJ-There's web interfaces for libvirt19:57
TJ-amongst many other libvirt using application categories... https://libvirt.org/apps.html#web19:58
tomreynyes. those web interfaces i know are either bad or expensive.19:58
tomreyn.or do not work for single dedicated servers19:59
tomreyni guess the rquirements are the issue there. must be open source, good, cheap20:01
tomreynforcommercial use20:02
lynorianhow is virt-manager hard to use?21:04
lynorianWhy do they need to do it in a web browser?21:05
