GraemeLion | Hmm. Just installed kubuntu 18.04 Beta 2.. is it normal for kwin to be really kinda crashy? Alt-tabs kill it. (I know this is beta, but this seems a bit abnormal from what I'm used to from ubuntu betas) | 01:02 |

Kon- | Are you on Wayland or X11? Which GPU do you have? What drivers are you using? | 01:06 |
Kon- | Is it an upgrade or a fresh install? | 01:06 |
GraemeLion | AMD RX480, X11, should be using whatever is in the kernel, which is 4.15.0-13-generic | 01:08 |
GraemeLion | fresh install | 01:08 |

IrcsomeBot | < > Hi, how can I bind start button to win button? | 11:04 |
lordievader | You can't. The windows button (Super) is a modifier key, not a key on its own. | 12:28 |
IrcsomeBot | < > What is the difference between a modifier Key and a Key? | 12:36 |
Dragnslcr | A modifier key can't trigger an action on its own, it can only be checked along with a regular key | 12:54 |
mparillo | However, the latest version of kwin (I think) now binds the super key to the kicker application launcher. At least it does for me on a clean install. | 14:30 |
IrcsomeBot | < > Is latest version of kwin only in Kubuntu 17.10.1? | 14:33 |
mparillo | I think if you apply backports you get it in 17.04 also. | 14:39 |
IrcsomeBot | < > Did you mean 16.04? | 14:43 |
mparillo | Sorry, yes. The current LTS. | 14:43 |
IrcsomeBot | <acheronuk> I think it works in plasma 5.8 in backports ppa for 16.04? | 14:44 |

KB5 | Hello. I recently replace Windows 10 with Kubuntu 18.04 beta 2 and there is one little issue that keeps nagging at me. This is desktop PC but I have plugged it to Eaton UPS. Battery status is received via USB cable. Works fine in Windows. But Kubuntu keeps telling me battery charge is 0% and that the UPS is not charging. Meanwhile Kubuntu 18.04 beta 2 reports Lenovo Thinkpad battery status correctly. | 15:17 |
KB5 | Is there something I can do to resolve the issue? | 15:18 |
BluesKaj | KB5, if the battery status is reported correctly then kubuntu is doing it's job. Dobn't think there's a linux app for monitoring Uninterupptable Power Supplies | 15:46 |
BluesKaj | oops uninterruptible | 15:48 |
KB5 | BluesKaj: UPS is recognized as a battery. To the OS there is no difference between UPS and internal battery. | 15:55 |
KB5 | Other than one being internal and the other external of course. | 15:56 |
BluesKaj | it should be ,if anything be recognized as a power supply | 15:59 |
BluesKaj | BBL... | 16:04 |

kvuser6 | I am trying to run kubuntu try mode on my laptop dell i15 7657 but it doesnt launch | 20:11 |
kvuser6 | i mean live usb try mode | 20:11 |
kvuser6 | if i press F7 during the kubuntu logo it ends up on a wallapeper with my cursor only, if i dont press i have nothing besides that logo loading forever | 20:12 |
kvuser6 | im unable to witch with ctrl+alt+fx | 20:12 |
kvuser6 | the only way is reboot with alt+print+REISUB | 20:13 |
kvuser6 | and that works | 20:13 |
kvuser6 | Anyone any hint? The same happened with the beta 1 and now im trying the beta 2 | 20:13 |
kvuser6 | 18.04 | 20:13 |
valorie | kvuser6: did you verify the image? | 20:13 |
valorie | !md5 | 20:13 |
ubottu | To verify your Ubuntu ISO image (or other files for which an MD5 checksum is provided), see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM or http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/LQ_ISO/Checking_the_md5sum_in_Windows | 20:13 |
kvuser6 | is this a reported problem? | 20:13 |
kvuser6 | yeah i did | 20:14 |
valorie | are you using the daily or the beta2? | 20:14 |
kvuser6 | i downloaded it twice and anyway | 20:14 |
kvuser6 | no the final beta2 | 20:14 |
valorie | ok, that's what I'm running as well | 20:14 |
kvuser6 | does your computer have a nvidia | 20:14 |
valorie | yes | 20:14 |
kvuser6 | mine is a gtx 1050ti | 20:14 |
kvuser6 | I saw it was causing issues on 17.10 | 20:15 |
valorie | I suggest in the terminal: sudo apt install -f | 20:15 |
kvuser6 | I also tried a daily build and had the same problem | 20:15 |
valorie | f=fix | 20:15 |
kvuser6 | I dont get that menu ~Try ubuntu/install ubuntu | 20:15 |
kvuser6 | I am unable to switch to any tty | 20:16 |
kvuser6 | nothing works | 20:16 |
kvuser6 | not even num lock on my keyboard | 20:16 |
valorie | yikes | 20:16 |
kvuser6 | Should i report the bug | 20:16 |
kvuser6 | ? | 20:16 |
valorie | pretty hard to file a bug when nothing works | 20:16 |
valorie | you'll get no logs if you can't get to a terminal | 20:17 |
kvuser6 | yeah | 20:17 |
kvuser6 | i cant | 20:17 |
IrcsomeBot | <DarinMiller> I recommend trying nomodeset.... | 20:17 |
valorie | !nomodeset | 20:17 |
ubottu | A common kernel (boot)parameter is nomodeset, which is needed for some graphic cards that otherwise boot into a black screen or show corrupted splash screen. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132 on how to use this parameter | 20:17 |
valorie | good idea, @DarinMiller | 20:17 |
kvuser6 | hm interesting | 20:18 |
kvuser6 | how do i use that to a live usb | 20:18 |
IrcsomeBot | <DarinMiller> My Dell Inspiron 7559 requires nomodeset for install and boot until I install NVidia drivers. | 20:18 |
IrcsomeBot | <DarinMiller> Which begs the question, which video driver. | 20:19 |
kvuser6 | oh i can set it on the usb stick grub file | 20:19 |
kvuser6 | i think mine is the same then | 20:19 |
IrcsomeBot | <DarinMiller> errr.^^^ which video card do you have? | 20:20 |
kvuser6 | gtx 1050ti | 20:20 |
kvuser6 | nvidia | 20:20 |
kvuser6 | so if i edit the /boot/grub/grub.cfg file on the usb stick that can get solved? | 20:21 |
IrcsomeBot | <DarinMiller> Yep, my guess is nomodeset will be required. If you go straight to install, nomodeset is not necessary | 20:21 |
kvuser6 | the only option i have is try kubuntu | 20:22 |
IrcsomeBot | <DarinMiller> no, in the boot menu, with the numeric list, Hit the "e" key to edit the grub boot line. | 20:22 |
kvuser6 | and i realyl wanted to try it | 20:22 |
kvuser6 | but shouldnt it work if i manually add to the grub.cfg? | 20:22 |
IrcsomeBot | <DarinMiller> It's a bit ambiguous to explain, but very easy once you have done it once. | 20:23 |
kvuser6 | okay ill try it | 20:24 |
kvuser6 | ill be back soon if it doesnt work | 20:24 |
kvuser6 | thanks! | 20:24 |
IrcsomeBot | <DarinMiller> OK :) | 20:24 |
