[01:02] Hmm. Just installed kubuntu 18.04 Beta 2.. is it normal for kwin to be really kinda crashy? Alt-tabs kill it. (I know this is beta, but this seems a bit abnormal from what I'm used to from ubuntu betas) [01:06] Are you on Wayland or X11? Which GPU do you have? What drivers are you using? [01:06] Is it an upgrade or a fresh install? [01:08] AMD RX480, X11, should be using whatever is in the kernel, which is 4.15.0-13-generic [01:08] fresh install === bruce is now known as Guest37262 === bruce___ is now known as bbeegg2ii === kallesbar_ is now known as kallesbar [06:05] Good morning === ejat_ is now known as ejat === juboxi is now known as jubo2 === Hui is now known as thinker [10:00] Hi folks === kubuntu is now known as Guest80278 [11:04] ‎ ‎ was added by: ‎ ‎ [11:04] <‎ ‎> Hi, how can I bind start button to win button? [12:28] You can't. The windows button (Super) is a modifier key, not a key on its own. [12:36] <‎ ‎> What is the difference between a modifier Key and a Key? [12:54] A modifier key can't trigger an action on its own, it can only be checked along with a regular key [14:30] However, the latest version of kwin (I think) now binds the super key to the kicker application launcher. At least it does for me on a clean install. [14:33] <‎ ‎> Is latest version of kwin only in Kubuntu 17.10.1? [14:39] I think if you apply backports you get it in 17.04 also. [14:43] <‎ ‎> Did you mean 16.04? [14:43] Sorry, yes. The current LTS. [14:44] I think it works in plasma 5.8 in backports ppa for 16.04? === kubuntu is now known as Guest15087 [15:17] Hello. I recently replace Windows 10 with Kubuntu 18.04 beta 2 and there is one little issue that keeps nagging at me. This is desktop PC but I have plugged it to Eaton UPS. Battery status is received via USB cable. Works fine in Windows. But Kubuntu keeps telling me battery charge is 0% and that the UPS is not charging. Meanwhile Kubuntu 18.04 beta 2 reports Lenovo Thinkpad battery status correctly. [15:18] Is there something I can do to resolve the issue? [15:46] KB5, if the battery status is reported correctly then kubuntu is doing it's job. Dobn't think there's a linux app for monitoring Uninterupptable Power Supplies [15:48] oops uninterruptible [15:55] BluesKaj: UPS is recognized as a battery. To the OS there is no difference between UPS and internal battery. [15:56] Other than one being internal and the other external of course. [15:59] it should be ,if anything be recognized as a power supply [16:04] BBL... The same happened with the beta 1 and now im trying the beta 2 [20:13] 18.04 [20:13] kvuser6: did you verify the image? [20:13] !md5 [20:13] To verify your Ubuntu ISO image (or other files for which an MD5 checksum is provided), see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM or http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/LQ_ISO/Checking_the_md5sum_in_Windows [20:13] is this a reported problem? [20:14] yeah i did [20:14] are you using the daily or the beta2? [20:14] i downloaded it twice and anyway [20:14] no the final beta2 [20:14] ok, that's what I'm running as well [20:14] does your computer have a nvidia [20:14] yes [20:14] mine is a gtx 1050ti [20:15] I saw it was causing issues on 17.10 [20:15] I suggest in the terminal: sudo apt install -f [20:15] I also tried a daily build and had the same problem [20:15] f=fix [20:15] I dont get that menu ~Try ubuntu/install ubuntu [20:16] I am unable to switch to any tty [20:16] nothing works [20:16] not even num lock on my keyboard [20:16] yikes [20:16] Should i report the bug [20:16] ? [20:16] pretty hard to file a bug when nothing works [20:17] you'll get no logs if you can't get to a terminal [20:17] yeah [20:17] i cant [20:17] I recommend trying nomodeset.... [20:17] !nomodeset [20:17] A common kernel (boot)parameter is nomodeset, which is needed for some graphic cards that otherwise boot into a black screen or show corrupted splash screen. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132 on how to use this parameter [20:17] good idea, @DarinMiller [20:18] hm interesting [20:18] how do i use that to a live usb [20:18] My Dell Inspiron 7559 requires nomodeset for install and boot until I install NVidia drivers. [20:19] Which begs the question, which video driver. [20:19] oh i can set it on the usb stick grub file [20:19] i think mine is the same then [20:20] errr.^^^ which video card do you have? [20:20] gtx 1050ti [20:20] nvidia [20:21] so if i edit the /boot/grub/grub.cfg file on the usb stick that can get solved? [20:21] Yep, my guess is nomodeset will be required. If you go straight to install, nomodeset is not necessary [20:22] the only option i have is try kubuntu [20:22] no, in the boot menu, with the numeric list, Hit the "e" key to edit the grub boot line. [20:22] and i realyl wanted to try it [20:22] but shouldnt it work if i manually add to the grub.cfg? [20:23] It's a bit ambiguous to explain, but very easy once you have done it once. [20:24] okay ill try it [20:24] ill be back soon if it doesnt work [20:24] thanks! [20:24] OK :) === ghostcube_ is now known as ghostcube [22:55] I am having trouble obtaining locks with discover.
