bodie__howdy, having nvidia driver issues01:57
bodie__I upgraded via do-release upgrade from 17.1001:58
bodie__I can log into the gnome environment fine, but when I install the nvidia native drivers (390), it completely freezes after the login shell01:58
bodie__this is after uninstalling / purging / making sure third-party sources are commented out etc01:59
bodie__I reinstalled the nvidia native drivers using ubuntu-drivers autoinstall01:59
bodie__I'm thinking maybe I have a leftover x config or something along those lines02:00

brainwashdonofrio: it says that the ppa is for 14.0408:20
LaibschI have my entire Ubuntu installation in a btrfs subvolume (including /boot).  I took a snapshot of it and would like to boot into it, but grub-update does not include it in the generated grub.cfg.  What am I missing?  It only finds the installation that's currently running off the main @ subvolume.  This is a clean bionic install.11:15
sweinAnyone have experience with plasma on 18.04?14:43
lotuspsychjeswein: best to ask your specific question to the channel14:52
katnipif we're into beta 2, why would mine say dev edition?20:16
flocculantwhat do you expect it to say?20:20
lapagaBeta=dev20:21
nacckatnip: what is your actual question?20:21
nacckatnip: beta 2 is just a point in time20:21
flocculantlapaga: beta=completely out of date now :p20:21
naccheh20:21
flocculanthi nacc :)20:22
katnipnacc, i thought i wrote the actual question out ;/20:22
katnipbut if the dev branch and beta 2 is one and the same then it dont matter20:22
flocculantthey aren't20:22
katnipi didnt think so20:23
flocculantbeta 2 is dead and out of date20:23
naccflocculant: heya20:23
katnipwhat about the dev branch?20:23
flocculantit was shortly after it was released katnip 20:23
flocculantthat's 'current'20:23
katnipok shrug hehe20:23
nacckatnip: your says 'dev edition', by which i assue you mean lsb_release -a 's "development branch" becuase that is what bionic is20:24
nacckatnip: so your question had a vacuous clause, which is why i wanted you to ask a real question20:24
nacckatnip: it has nothing to do with 'into beta 2'20:24
flocculantkatnip: you might want to read this re alpha's and beta's https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-release/2018-April/004387.html20:24
katnipplease dont call me on english, im really not in the mood today, some days i am but not today, pleasse20:24
nacckatnip: it wasn't about your english, it was that you were asking a question that begged its own premise20:25
flocculantindeed anyone else who's interested re there being no alpha's and beat 1 next cycle20:25
nacckatnip: maybe your question was 'what is the difference between beta2 and the current bionic release'20:25
nacckatnip: or 'what is beta2?'20:25
katnipnacc, my question was why was mine showing dev branch when we were 'supposely' into beta 220:26
katnipthat's a simple question20:26
nacckatnip: just drop the '... when we' part20:26
nacckatnip: as it is a red herring, indicating some confusion about what ubuntu betas are20:26
flocculantkatnip: ok - and nacc answered it  - it's just a point in time20:27
nacckatnip: all bionic images currently show 'development branch', because that is what bionic is (in development)20:27
flocculantthis conversation is why xubuntu doesn't push milestones20:27
naccheh20:27
katnipi thought it was frozen20:27
lapagaThe first update of anything after the moment in time of beta2 it no less ngeris20:27
katnipaccording to the timeline20:27
nacckatnip: no, that is a misapprehension20:28
lapagaLordy20:28
nacckatnip: 1) bugfixes are always allowed in20:28
lapagaWhat did I write20:28
nacclapaga: a new word!20:28
katnipconvete20:28
flocculantlordy is well old - flocculant has been saying that for many years 20:29
lapagaMaybe I should submit it20:29
lapagaI am old20:29
flocculantso am I20:30
flocculantwell physically I am - mentally I'm a teenager :p20:31
lapaga:)20:31
flocculanthopefully for many more years lol20:31
flocculantnacc: re the additional drivers/nvidia issue - spoke to Adam - so they know now20:32
naccflocculant: nice, yeah, i saw some discussion about it20:33
nacci couldn't tell if infinity though it was a bug or not :)20:34
flocculanthe does if bug report is anything to go by - with nvidia20:34
naccah ok20:34
lapagaWith Ubuntu if you hover your mouse over desktop can you switch your workspace with mouse wheel?21:07
akemNo, you can switch workspace by rolling the mouse wheel on the grid dots of the dock.21:10
lapagaI know that xubuntu you can and I think kubuntu also so was wondering if there was a way21:12
ekennedy80Hello21:13
ekennedy80I'm sure someone already knows here nut netbeans no longer works on Bionic21:13
naccekennedy80: 'no longer works'? is a bug filed in ubuntu?21:18
ekennedy80ummmm21:21
naccit's probably due to the default java change?21:21
ekennedy80oh, default java?21:22
ekennedy80so oracle java doesn't work with it?21:22
ekennedy80or are you saying only openjdk works?21:22
mattflyhi21:42
mattflyis it possible to hibernate ubuntu 18.04 beta 221:42
mattfly??21:42
naccmattfly: obviously would depend on your hardware21:43
mattflywhy?21:43
mattflyI have a HDD and a SSD21:44
mattflyisn t that enough21:44
naccmattfly: because hibernation is incredibly machine specific (and relies on firmware, etc.)21:44
mattflyi was able to hibernate ubuntu 17.1021:44
mattflyon the same machine21:44
mattflybut pm-hibernate isnt here anymore21:45
naccmattfly: what is pm-hibernate?21:46
akempm-hibernate is a command line tool to hibernate, i'm on 17.10 and i don't have it, i'm on a laptop, that's the last thing i didn't test, hibernation...21:50
naccakem: it's in pm-utils21:51
naccdunno where mattfly went21:51
akemnacc, cool thanks, i couldn't find it.21:52
