[05:07] Hey [05:08] Helli === HoloIRCUser1 is now known as ChernovStas [05:09] Hi guys [05:14] Hi [05:14] G nite - have fun without me \o [05:50] good morning to all [05:58] EriC^^: taxi s*cked badly lol [05:59] lol [05:59] happens sometimes [05:59] it was americanized, over the top, and bad actors [06:00] thats what happens when you takeover from luc besson [06:00] there is a US remake of Taxi? [06:00] or what do you mean? [06:01] JanC: yes, they asked luc besson if they could make taxi 5 [06:02] I'm not sure I want to watch Taxi 3-4, let alone a Hollywood made Taxi 5 [06:02] and they totaly messed it up [06:02] .ir [06:02] whoops [06:02] even Taxi 2 wasn't at the same level as Taxi [06:02] i liked the 4 other ones [06:02] JanC: but yes, its true, best one was 1 [06:02] morning tsimonq2 [06:03] o/ [06:03] Well, bedtime. :P === kallesbar_ is now known as kallesbar [06:03] Just up late working on patches. [06:05] you know, the US remake of Loft wasn't all that bad (but then again, it was made by the same director & co-produced by the same production company, and even shared an actor) [06:05] certainly a lot better than the Dutch remake of Loft :) [06:06] yeah [06:07] but based on what I've heard from the Belgian directors of "Black", being a director in the Hollywood is totally different from being a director in Europe [06:08] black was nice [06:08] Good morning [06:08] morning lordievader [06:08] morning lordievader [06:08] (they should be working on Beverly Hills Cop IV right now) [06:09] lol [06:09] that's no joke [06:09] JanC: your wish, or real? [06:09] with eddy? [06:09] Hey EriC^^ , lotuspsychje [06:09] How are you doing? [06:09] Eddie Murphy wanted them [06:09] very good lordievader [06:09] doing good you lordievader ? [06:10] earlier this year the producers told them they had to choose between Beverly Hills Cop IV and their own Belgian movie project [06:10] or last year [06:10] so they chose the Belgian project, as they already booked all their friends to play in ti [06:11] apparently Eddie Murphy convinced the producers to wait :P [06:11] Doing good here :) [06:12] https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6438030/ is the Belgian movie they made first [06:13] lotuspsychje: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3083016/ → Beverly Hills Cop IV project [06:14] cool [06:16] JanC: its from the same guys from patser [06:16] that's what I said [06:16] Patser, Black, etc. [06:17] good morning, guys [06:18] hey ducasse [06:18] full house today :p [06:19] hi lotuspsychje - are you well today? [06:19] "Patser" is distributed as "Gangsta" outside Belgium & the Netherlands, I guess [06:19] yeah im great here ducasse how is your day starting? [06:20] JanC: didnt know black was from same directors too [06:21] JanC: so did you see patser yet? [06:21] i wanted to go, but i chosen taxi 5 lol [06:21] big mistake.. [06:23] I didn't see Patser yet [06:23] all good here, thanks, lotuspsychje [06:23] probably will see it outside cinema [06:34] kk [06:54] cinema tends to be super expensive nowadays [06:54] unfortunately [06:57] when i went to cinema here about a month ago, they wanted about £8-9 for a large popcorn [06:58] ad up cinema ticket & something to drink... [06:58] add up* [06:59] yep, gets costly really fast [06:59] if you are with a couple people, you could as well wait and buy a Bluray [06:59] and watch it at home [06:59] several times [07:00] or sell it again :) [07:00] or watch it on some streaming service [07:01] (and I used to work as a volunteer for a film festival, so it's not like I don't like watching films in a cinema) [07:08] they used to show some smaller niche movies in the past, but no longer. only blockbusters, mostly american, all in the name of profit. [07:10] oh, there is a somewhat decent cinema still operating here [07:10] although not really niche either [07:12] I assume it's easier to run really niche movies in larger cities... [07:15] of course, but this is in a big enough city that it should attract at least some people [07:16] in my case that would be http://lumierecinema.be/ (and Bruges isn't all that big) [09:22] https://www.deviantart.com/art/Telinkrin-2-739671394 [09:22] neat stuff [12:10] Hi folks [12:10] Great morning BluesKaj [12:10] 'Morning JimBuntu [12:12] \o BluesKaj, JimBuntu [12:12] Hey ducasse [12:12] are you both well? [12:13] I'm doing ok ducasse, how about you? [12:14] ok here as well [12:15] I would prefer if it were about 32 hours from now, but now will do. [12:17] I thought you worked from Hon=me, JimBuntu [12:17] err home :-) [12:18] these phat phingers have difficulty negotiating this KB, sometimes [12:18] I do, and in a little over 32 hours I get to walk out of the home office and not step foot back in here for a couple days :-) [12:19] ahhh, gotcha [12:24] JimBuntu: hmm travels coming? [12:31] daftykins, soon, but never soon enough. I think I am "in one of those moods". [12:33] the time before can be quite agonising, especially if it's a working trip :) [12:34] just come back from mine, at last feeling relaxed and recovered [12:37] I generally dislike traveling for work... I mean, I don't even go in to work each day, lol. I have literally traveled for work, simply to work remotely from the hotel room before... I was like "Why did I have to fly out here to work out of a smaller office with bad WiFi?" [12:39] JimBuntu: next week I plan on doing the same, from the banks of the river when the predicted heatwave arrives :) [12:45] heh, i wouldn't mind a heatwave right now ...this wintry weather just hangs on like an unwelcome guest [12:46] TJ-, I live off a river, so I'm kinda doing that right now :-D Are you going to be enjoying some down-time by the river too? [12:51] JimBuntu: that's the general idea. Do some maintainance work and get a tan, and let the eyes rest [12:59] :D === kostkon_ is now known as kostkon [13:20] !bionic [13:21] Ubuntu 18.04 (Bionic Beaver) will be the 28th release of Ubuntu - Announcement at http://www.markshuttleworth.com/archives/1518 - Discussion in #ubuntu+1 [13:43] !party [13:43] Please remember that #ubuntu, #kubuntu, #xubuntu, #edubuntu, and #lubuntu are support channels. To countdown to !bionic release and then party once it happens, join #ubuntu-release-party - For in-person parties, see http://loco.ubuntu.com/events/global/3339/ [13:45] that was the shortest stay by generalfluffles [13:50] hilarious. I am all for learning new things, but am still puzzled by some peoples questions. How to play a .RAR game? Hmmm... maybe start by recognizing the extension. [13:51] scary that people still blindly download/run these kind of files where seemingly there is no detailed instructions on how to use them. [13:51] often when it doesn't work first time they immediately try 'sudo' ... game over, RAR or not! [13:52] "oh look, nothing happened. Must be broken. Oh well...." [13:53] I know the research has been done for the likelihood of people checking out "found" flash drives and media... Someone must have performed research on the ability/likelihood of bad "help" commands on IRC... I want to find their results. [13:57] that "if i can't get it to work, try again as root" mindset is pretty dangerous :) [14:07] I guess at least Wayland will stop that :) [14:07] stop everything else mind! [14:31] JimBuntu, I tend to associate the fact they're asking about a .rar file for a game as being pirated... which is why I took my sweet time formulating an answer [14:32] ducasse, the mind set of root is because so much of the old tech articles still out there aren't actively updated to the latest... so everything thinks it's common practice [15:25] <~~~ dumbass [15:25] whats going on leftyfb ? [15:26] just got done setting up the Unifi USG (router) last night to go along with the Unifi AP's I have around the house. Everything was working pretty good. It's really slick and gives me the control I had when I used to run my own gateway/dns/dhcp vi a linux box. [15:27] Worked fine overnight. So before I left the house, I added the port forward I needed to get back in from the outside and changed the public ip to the one I normally used on the Linksys router I had [15:28] got to work, still working ... logged into the nice "cloud" UI for managing everything ... started poking around stats and stuff and then BAM ... offline [15:28] yikes [15:28] was yelling at support for about an hour ... most of it was justified because we hadn't even got to doing any real troubleshooting [15:28] then it hit me [15:28] I left the linksys plugged into the WAN VLAN with the same old public ip [15:29] :D [15:29] ouch [15:29] <~~~ dumbass [15:29] yeah glad my linksys issue is solved too :p [15:29] sometimes we overlook things so easy [15:29] I'll never buy another Linksys/Netgear again [15:29] complete garbage, all of it [15:30] network gear should not have a shelf life for it's core functionality [15:30] tired of buying a more expensive consumer router every few years hoping at this level I won't have to rig something up to powercycle when the internet drops out for no reason [15:31] i hear you [15:31] but what to buy.. [15:31] well, I'm trying Ubiquiti at the moment [15:32] this stuff is meant for office environments [15:32] you need controller software just to run the AP's and gateway [15:32] I have that running one of the pi's in my rack :) [15:32] cool [15:33] I've had an inexpensive but effective in linux router and modem from TP-Link for 3 yrs ...they run fine [15:33] all the Canonical offices and conferences use this stuff ... so I have some confidence in it [15:35] I juat hope the new arris DG3260 from my new ISP is as linux friendly [15:35] just [15:36] I had to sell my modem :( [15:36] all top10 routers on google show netgear and linksys oO [15:36] well, MIGHT not have needed to, but didn't feel like dealing with it [15:36] Comcast insisted that they don't allow your own modem if you have multiple static ip's [15:36] at the time I just needed to be back online so I didn't have the time to fight with them [15:37] lotuspsychje, yeah , but those listings are probly paid by the makers [15:37] yeah [15:37] also people don't usually rate something several years after use [15:37] which is the issue with those consumer routers [15:47] all these returning problems on ubuntu i dont get that [15:48] hibernate broken, bluetooth+audio devices,.. [15:49] after thousands of bugs on it, one should suspect its getting better [15:51] !16.04.2 [15:51] 16.04.2 is rescheduled to February 16th due to several last minute issues with building and testing the ISOs. You can install the 16.04(.1) ISOs and run the updates if you are in a hurry. [15:51] I've never had much problem with Bluetooth [15:51] been using it since the mid 2000s constantly [15:56] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BionicBeaver/ReleaseNotes [15:57] I wrote a simple python app a while back that would detect BT devices nearby,.. it would either play a custom intro song if it knew the person or play a default if unknown devices entered it's range. I should update it to use the John Cena meme song [15:57] interesting that 2 finger click is explained there [15:57] JimBuntu: do you watch Silicon Valley by any chance? what you said reminded me of the most recent episode [15:59] nacc, I do not watch that. I'm not really up on any shows, closest would be The Walking Dead where I am only like 2.5 years behind, lol. No TV service either. [15:59] I used to use a pam_bluetooth module to only allow log-in of a particular device was proximate [16:00] JimBuntu: :) me too re: TWD [16:00] JimBuntu: and only broadcast TV here (otherwise internet services) === lotuspsychje_ is now known as lotuspsychje [16:06] netplan also nicely described in releasenotes [16:06] yeah we're starting to work on them a bit more [16:07] cool [16:07] nacc: please make sure netplan is feature complete before neutering ifupdown :) [16:08] last I checked, I think netplan for wireless doesn't support some enterprise features [16:08] leftyfb: lol, not my job? :) [16:08] leftyfb: ifupdown is still available, just not the default [16:08] well, you did say "we're" :) [16:08] leftyfb: wrt. release notes [16:08] ah [16:08] also i'm leaving canonical just before the release :) [16:09] they've lost an awful lot of good people in the past few years [16:10] yeah [16:12] quick though on consumer routers... shelf life isn't bad if they didn't cost a premium. paying $200 for a router that gets one firmware update and on the next big vulnerability, oh, it's too hard to fix on that unit, go buy our new $200 router... planned obsolesence is no bueno [16:18] makes much more sense to avoid them entirely [16:19] so true! [16:20] I went synology with my latest router purchase. Everything I needed, only one tiny issue that I can live with. [16:23] i was surprised to see they'd branched out from NASs [16:30] guess shutleworth's attempts to monetize have created a more presuurized work environment for many [16:31] shuttleworth/pressurized even [16:42] leftyfb: pragmaticenigma: for routers, i have a mikrotik router and an ap. you get firmware updates for the lifetime of the device, which is nice. in my experience they also perform well, and don't cost too much. [17:26] hey Bashing-om ducasse [17:29] \o lotuspsychje [17:32] !factoids | anyone if you guys have ideas for better service [17:32] anyone if you guys have ideas for better service: Hi! [18:07] TJ-: Just getting involved in the effort .. and right now I do not know the help I will require :) [18:12] Bashing-om: I might be interested in helping where I can [18:15] leftyfb: Great ! Believe me we can use all the help we can get !! wildman and tsimonq2 are presenly seeing what is to be done . We meet in #ubuntu-news . [18:15] were you all the original people who used to do it? [18:16] I'm always curious as to where people get their news for articles [18:16] leftyfb: No .. none are .. tsimonq2 was the last leader and has offerd to help get us off the ground . [18:17] !newsteam [18:17] lotuspsychje: Yeah .. seems the most oft used source :D [18:17] cool project [18:18] lotuspsychje: I have missed it publication .. and jumped at the offer to get it started again .
