slangasek[TOPIC] Bugs15:16
=== meetingology changed the topic of #ubuntu-meeting to: Bugs
tdaitxdoko you mentioned additional java relarted failures on update_excuses, under what packages are those?15:16
bdmurraythere are still a bunch of bugs targetted for bionic15:17
bdmurrayhttp://reqorts.qa.ubuntu.com/reports/rls-mgr/rls-bb-tracking-bug-tasks.html15:17
dokotdaitx: search for csvjdbc and all down to libpdfbox2-java15:18
tdaitxdoko: ack, thanks15:18
slangasekbdmurray: any of these we should highlight for fixing before GA vs. being candidates for SRU?15:18
bdmurrayxnox: are you still working on bug 1749199?15:19
ubottubug 1749199 in ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu Bionic) "purge conf files on removal of upstart (was session fails to start after an upgrade from xenial to bionic)" [Critical,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/174919915:19
tdaitxdoko: is there any I should be aware that is not listed under "Maintainer: Debian Java Maintainers"?15:20
dokotdaitx: I didn't check. LO still seems to build15:20
bdmurrayAlso is there a hold up on bug 1761630? its Fix Committed15:21
ubottubug 1761630 in systemd (Ubuntu Bionic) "journald takes over /dev/log in bionic, impacts usability of syslog querying" [Medium,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/176163015:21
xnoxbdmurray, yes, still working. Specifically, i dislike that if things are chosen to be deconfigured and deinstalled as part of the upgrade, they are not purged/removed later on. Only leaf things end up purged. So I'm working on improving the transaction to ensure things chosen for removal mid-upgrade, are purged, and not just removed.15:22
slangasekbdmurray: the fix for that is stuck in bionic-proposed due to libfastjson MIR15:22
xnoxbdmurray, not sure if I should be stashing / remembering removed things, in case of an upgrade failure, and only purging them upon successful upgrade.15:22
bdmurrayxnox: Are you doing it in ubuntu-release-upgrader? If so did you look at PostUpgradeQuriks?15:23
slangasekxnox: upstart is already unsupported in xenial except for upgrades; I think you should not overengineer15:23
dokoslangasek, xnox: do we want to include libfastjson in the rsyslog source?15:23
slangasekdoko: is that the MIR and security team's guidance?15:23
dokothe MIR team doesn't dislike that15:24
dokoand the security team doesn't dislike it either15:24
xnoxslangasek, it's not just upstart. And upstart is totally supported and required on xenial, since on xenial it is the user-session init.....15:24
slangasekxnox: is this about system-level conffiles?15:25
xnoxslangasek, yes.15:25
slangasekxnox: that are unused for the user session?15:25
xnoxthe upgrade bugs area bout system-level conffiles; user session init does not use system-level conffiles; but in xenial it was shipped in the same binary package....15:26
xnox*are about15:27
slangasekxnox: right - so I think there's no significant impact from just rm -f'ing the conffiles from whatever's doing this cleanup15:27
bdmurraycyphermox: it looks like there is an MP for bug 1741690.15:30
ubottubug 1741690 in ubiquity (Ubuntu Bionic) "You can't enable the Orca screen reader until after you click "Try Ubuntu" on Ubuntu bionic" [Critical,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/174169015:30
cyphermoxbdmurray: aye15:31
slangasekbdmurray: any others?15:33
bdmurrayslangasek: Oh maybe we should talk about the screen upgrade issue15:34
bdmurraybug 176199715:34
ubottubug 1761997 in screen (Ubuntu) "/var/run needs mode 777 in bionic" [High,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/176199715:34
bdmurrayIt needs 775 in Xenial and 777 in Bionic.15:36
slangasekbdmurray: two options to fix it: set perms in the preinst, or handle the perms of screen itself via dpkg-statoverride instead of shipping the current upgrade-incompatible perms in the package15:36
gaughenare we agreed we need to fix this one for release, bdmurray ?15:37
bdmurraygaughen: I agree with myself15:37
gaughen:-)15:37
slangasekbdmurray: does it affect artful->bionic?15:37
bdmurrayslangasek: No, it doesn't because artful has it as 77715:38
slangasekbdmurray: then the deadline is 18.04.1, right?15:38
bdmurrayslangasek: Oh, I see.15:38
bdmurrayYes15:38
bdmurraythat's it then from me15:43

ubottuLaunchpad bug 1488620 in initramfs-tools (Ubuntu) "Add LZ4 support to initramfs-tools" [Low,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/148862015:45
rbalint(it was not allowed to 18.04.0)15:45

elopiook. Wimpress, jose: are you here too? If so, I will start.17:16
josein and out but yes17:16
elopiojose: in and out is not good enough. These meetings have been scheduled since we started :/17:17
josewell, I have to work too. if you prefer to not count me in, feel free to, but I'll still be watching and responding.17:19
elopioI prefer to count only the people who is in the meeting.17:19
elopiowe asked before if we should move the time in case people were busy, and nobody has proposed a different time.17:19
WimpressHere17:20
elopioThis is getting very very boring. We knew about these meetings when we proposed ourselves to the council.17:20
ahoneybunelopio, people have work and life to work around. Please try to understand that. This is a volunteer position.17:21
elopioahoneybun: this is not any volunteer position. All the info was upfront before the election.17:22
elopioand if this is not a good time, we can move it to a better time. But instead, people decide just not to show (without giving any notice), or to show and not participate.17:22
ahoneybunelopio, not getting paid makes it a volunteer position: https://www.google.com/search?ei=8tDYWoKvGojgjwTD2p_4Bg&q=volunteering+definition&oq=voluteering+de&gs_l=psy-ab.1.1.0i10k1l7.2821.3379.0.4696.3.3.0.0.0.0.76.202.3.3.0....0...1.1.64.psy-ab..0.3.201....0.mEnKGZ7pAW017:25
ahoneybunI'm sorry : http://www.dictionary.com/browse/volunteer17:25
elopioit is not *any* volunteer position17:25
elopioit is one where you get a lot of commitments17:26
ahoneybunMy biggest commitment is keeping my job. I'm sorry but some days it's not busy and I can watch IRC all day and some days I don't.17:27
joseokay, let's call this meeting off for now. we'll reconvene and discuss this later. thanks, everyone.17:27
elopioahoneybun: you can at least let us know. And you can suggest a better time.17:27
elopioor you can work async, to make up for the meetings you miss17:27
elopioor so many other possible options.17:28
elopiothe choice of not doing nothing is not one I will understand.17:28
ahoneybunI understand that I was defending that jose did explain it.17:29
WimpressIs this meeting time not suitable for everyone?17:30
WimpressWe have just chosen to follow what previous CCs did.17:30
WimpressThis topic of turning up and participating is occupying a lot of our time when we get together.17:31
elopioI'm happy to meet at (almost) any other time.17:32
WimpressI'd prefer we were not navel-gazing when we meet.17:32
ahoneybunWimpress, the time is fine for me most of the time. It really depends on how busy I am at work.17:33
elopioI'm also happy to just meet with whoever is present, and consider that quorum even if it's two people.17:33

elopio#subtopic Clearly define governance seats, terms, and quorum. @elacheche17:47
elopioelacheche: please update the status on the community hub post for this meeting.17:47
elopio#subtopic Contact the liri and enlightenment community, to start with those two. @Wimpress17:48
WimpressI have done the discovery.17:48
WimpressHave contacts from Bohdi Linux and an Ubuntu community contributor maintaining a PPA for E21.17:48
WimpressAlso have several contacts for Liri, two also with LP active accounts.17:48
WimpressHave sent emails yet.17:49
WimpressWill send emails in the next day or two.17:49
WimpressBit crazy with the 18.04 release around the corner.17:49
elopio#action Wimpress will send the emails to liri and enlightenment contacts17:49
meetingologyACTION: Wimpress will send the emails to liri and enlightenment contacts17:49
elopiothank you. Next17:49
elopio#subtopic Make a post on the hub about the guerrilla marketing campaign. @Wimpress17:50
WimpressI have started a draft, it isn't finished.17:50
WimpressI'll get around to finishing and posting this after 18.04 and UbuCon Europe.17:50
WimpressSo probably the week of our next CC meeting.17:50
elopioWimpress: I will have time in may, if you need a hand with it. Should I keep the same action?17:51
josecan we put it in a gdoc or etherpad? that way maybe we can all contribute and get it off the door asap17:51
WimpressYes, keep the action.17:51
WimpressI post in a gist and share with you.17:51
WimpressOr a gdoc or whatever. Sure.17:51
WimpressI will circulate the draft.17:51
elopio#action Make a post on the hub about the guerrilla marketing campaign. Share the draft. @Wimpress17:51
meetingologyACTION: Make a post on the hub about the guerrilla marketing campaign. Share the draft. @Wimpress17:51
WimpressBut it won't be this week or next week.17:52
elopioI think we are in no hurry with that one. It would be nice for 18.1017:53
elopioso start anytime next month should be more than enough.17:53
josesounds great :)17:53
elopio#subtopic Talk to the translations coordinators and the launchpad team to join the discussion on the hub. @elopio17:53
elopioone of the translations coordinator was already participating in the hub discussion.17:54
elopiolet me paste the link here for later reference17:54
elopiohttps://community.ubuntu.com/t/reconcidering-workflows/465617:54
elopiomy point there is to work closer with upstreams, and less with launchpad.17:54
elopiogunnarhj said that has been always the idea. I didn't now this, at all. If that's the case, maybe we can close launchpad translations for all the packages that are not patched in ubuntu, and things like that, to make it clearer.17:55
elopioI'm not sure where the discussion will lead, but it's good to have it. Feel free to leave your thoughts in there.17:56
elopio#subtopic Figure out how to do a private backlog on the hub or on launchpad @elacheche, @Wimpress17:56
elopioanything happening there?17:57
WimpressSorry, no.17:57
elopioI don't think that elacheche collected the actions of the previous 3 meetings, so I'm not sure if this is going to work.17:57
elopioelacheche: please report on the topic on the hub.17:58
elopiook, that's what we have from the previous meeting.17:58
elopiosomething else to report about the work of the past two weeks?17:58
WimpressNot from me.17:58
WimpressFYI - final freese for 18.04 today.17:59
Wimpress*freeze even.17:59
elopio\o/ awesome!17:59
elopioLet's jump to the next point on the agenda.17:59
WimpressI'm looking forward to getting to bed before 3am again :-)17:59
elopio:) please don't burn out Wimpress, we need you!18:00
elopio#topic Add a section about inclusiveness to the code of conduct - @elopio18:00
elopiosorry, I phased out.18:01
elopioI was at an interesting event on the weekend. We were learning from Mozilla about enforcing the code of conduct.18:02
elopiothat's very relevant for us, because we have had three reports already. And we have responded, but it's always hard to know how to do it.18:02
elopiothey are forming a community of communities, to discuss about these issues. Their next call is going to be on may 4th.18:03
elopioI'll join for sure. And I'll send you the details in case somebody else wants to join.18:04
elopioThat's one thing. The other is that on our first meeting we talked about being more inclusive, but we didn't have a clear idea of how to do it.18:04
WimpressSounds interesting.18:04
WimpressI'd be interested in joining to.18:05
elopiowe can get some good ideas from the Mozilla team, because they are doing an awesome job there.18:05
WimpressYep.18:05
elopiomy first goal is to add a section about inclussiveness into our code of conduct. Probably, copying what mozilla has on their contributor guidelines.18:05
elopioFor that, I first need to convince you that we need it. So I will work on finding data to support it, and planning the next steps to make it more than letter in a website.18:06
WimpressDo we need to make proposals to change the CoC and get sign off from Mark or are we the custodians?18:06
elopioso, I don't have a lot to tell yet, but I will have in the upcoming meetings.18:06
elopioWimpress: I think should get a sign off even if it's not required. And I have no idea how it works for the people who have already signed it, I saw something about versions on lauchpad18:07
elopiobut that's part of the work to do, figure out all the details.18:07
WimpressOK, so we need to find out what the process is.18:08
elopioany questions? suggestions?18:08
WimpressI have no objection to updating the CoC.18:08
WimpressJust want to learn what the correct process for doing so is.18:08
joseI think in the past it's been discussion, review, and merge into the CoC branch in LP18:09
elopioI will also consult with Jono, because I know this was not added by design. I think we will disagree, but it would be good to have his opinion.18:09
WimpressYep.18:10
elopiook, feel free to join me if you want to help. Next.18:10
elopio#topic Member for life, the wrong policy - @om26er18:10
elopioI don't think omer is around18:10
elopioa short summary is that he's making two proposals: first, do not let people renew their membership after it expires. Second, make a check with the current members (every two years I think) to see if their ar still active.18:12
elopioI guess the actions for us is to get involved in that topic18:12
joseI think Mark had a said on that a while ago, saying something around the words of 'if you had valuable contributions to Ubuntu once, we thank you for them and consider you a member for life', I think it'd be worth consulting with Mark18:12
elopiohttps://community.ubuntu.com/t/member-for-life-the-wrong-policy/5257/118:12
WimpressPeoples circumstances change.18:13
elopioI live being a member for life. But the discussion is interesting.18:13
WimpressI was active in the Ubuntu community from 2004 to 2009. Then dissappeared until 2014.18:13
WimpressBecause I started a family.18:13
elopioLet's make this action18:14
elopio#action If people from the CC have opinions about the topic, join the discussion on the hub.18:14
meetingologyACTION: If people from the CC have opinions about the topic, join the discussion on the hub.18:14
WimpressI think people who acheived membership in the past and elect to renew their membership should be permitted to do so.18:14
WimpressIt is possible they will once again become active, as I did.18:14
elopiothen, if there's something actionable related to membership status, we can discuss here again, and involve Mark.18:14
elopioI would like to take this as an opportunity to start thinking about ways to get new members and recover the old ones.18:15
elopioon the post, I used the communitheme as an example. How do we get all that energy into people signing the code of conduct, planning for future activities with their communities, and being proud members?18:16
WimpressI've replied on the Hub.18:17
elopiobut, I said I would take no actions this meeting, so I will push it to may, unless somebody else wants to do something about it now.18:17
WimpressWell the flavour bootstrapping is my idea to get some new members.18:17
elopioyes, and the guerrilla marketing. Those are great.18:17
elopiook, the last topic was the review of actions with elacheche. So, there's nothing left.18:21
WimpressAny other business?18:21
WimpressI need to go and read bedtime stories. So...18:22
Wimpress5...18:22
elopioI'm still angry, so I would like to point out: ahoneybun: you have taken no actions on this meeting. jose: your only action is to forward an email.18:22
Wimpress4...18:22
Wimpress3...18:22
elopiothe problem is not only the meeting, to me. We can discuss more in the next one.18:23
Wimpress2...18:23
WimpressOK18:23
Wimpress1..18:23
WimpressRight, that's all folks. See you in two weeks.18:23

elopiobye, have a nice weekend.18:23
WimpressAnd you.18:23
ahoneybunelopio, I did not have any actions.18:26
elopioThat's the problem ahoneybun. What are you doing as part of the CoC?18:28
ahoneybunelopio, you mean CC ?18:28
elopioyes.18:29
ahoneybunDon't worry I've sent an email to the mailing list.18:29
