dsmythiesThe mainline build for kernel 4.17-rc3 failed also. (http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.17-rc3/)00:26

tjaaltonkees: the generic kernel is now signed, and there's a separate -unsigned one which isn't05:13
apwkees, right what tjaalton said, we are moving to always signed; which is what we should have done in the first place07:26
apwmamarley, hrm, thanks for the report07:45
cristihello, I just noticed the latest kernel RC, fails to build for the kernel-ppa/mainline: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.17-rc3/BUILD.LOG08:31
apwcristi, yep, its being sorted, it'll pop out eventually08:39
cristithanks apw 08:40
apwquite why everyone insists on running these crack builds is beyondme08:41
cristithe kernel is surprisingly stable even in rc builds, and they sometimes have interesting additions08:42
cristiin this particular case there seem to be some power saving improvements that may be significant08:42

cristihistorically I've started doing this a few years back when the latest kernels gradually fixed multiple driver issues with my dual-screen setup, then later added support for suspend with OPAL disk encryption08:53
keestjaalton, apw: thanks! yes, that's excellent. *whew*15:27

dsmythiesO.K. thank you for fixing the mainline builds. However, now kernel 4.17-rc3 does not install, as it seems to depend on libssl1.1 and I have 1.0 (my test server computer is still on 16.04.4). I also can not purge or remove the partially installed kernel, because some files now seem to need a prgram called "linux-update-symlinks", which I do not have. (The files: /var/lib/dpkg/info/linux-image-unsigned-4.17.0-041700rc3-lowlatency.postinst and /var/l22:03
dsmythiesBy the way, kernel 4.17-rc1 from the mainline was fine. I never tried kernel 4.17-rc2.22:06
dsmythiesI also do not have linux-check-removal needed by "/var/lib/dpkg/info/linux-image-unsigned-4.17.0-041700rc3-lowlatency.prerm". Summary: The package "linux-base (4.0ubuntu1)" for Xenial doesn't have the files you are now using. The package "linux-base (4.5ubuntu1)" for artful and bionic does have the files.22:30
